Just a heads up for everyone:
I recently updated Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update that was pushed out on August 2nd.
This update appears to prevent you from viewing an Xbox 360 formatted USB drive on your machine. The USB drive is detected, but it requests that you format it in order to be able to use it. You are not able to use C3 Con Tools either on this drive as it is not recognized as a usable partition.
This was not the case several days ago prior to the update.
I have tried this with multiple USB keys formatted on my 360 and the result is the same, so it rules out a defective USB.
I am also able to view and manipulate the data on the USB by booting into a Linux VM, so it is definitely something that Microsoft has locked in their most recent update.
August 7, 2016 at 3:33 pm #473055After a format, everything is fine for me again. If you have another PC not yet updated, grab your files there, then format it on your Anniversary Updated PC and then put the files back on.
Not sure what exactly is going on, but it’s been a one-time issue for me.
August 7, 2016 at 7:38 pm #473067I noticed that too, thanks for confirming. Seems to be fine after formatting on the Anniversary Update PC, then plugging it into the 360. It looks like an Xbox 360 formatted USB will not be recognized, it must be formatted on the Windows 10 AU PC.
August 11, 2016 at 8:12 pm #473248It seems it was indeed the infernal -unwanted- update preventing me from getting files onto my xbox. Thank you for both confirming the problem and the solution.
August 21, 2016 at 4:36 am #473652I finished a custom & I wana get it on my Xbox how do I get it from reaper, to my USB to Xbox? lol can someone explain it simple please & thanks! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I’ll probably just do what hock and Whizzer did and reformat the USB once I can get the files off of it.
August 29, 2016 at 4:44 pm #474136I think this issue is fixed. I was able to load in my pre-existing USB stick into my Win 10 laptop (which recently received a 2nd update), and now the PC recognizes the stick again.
Crisis averted!
October 16, 2016 at 4:05 pm #476415Wait, how did you fix the issue?
I think I’m having the same problem. I format the drive on my 360 and then windows won’t recognize it and doesn’t even ask me to format it. It makes the noise like I plugged a new drive in but then never shows me any options to format or use it at all and nothing shows up in My Computer.

That’s not what he said, is it?

I decided to give it a try on my end to see if I could replicate the issue. Both my Xbox 360 formatted USB drives loaded fine on my Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Edition machine, and RBtoUSB was able to read them just fine.

The OP said it was a 360-formatted drive, and then later said he formatted it on the PC and then plugged it into the 360. But if I format the drive on the PC and then plug it into the 360, the 360 reads it as an unformatted storage device and won’t recognize it until I let the 360 reformat it.
It’s the same process in the How to Play Customs on 360 guide in the forums here. Is there some other part of the process or different steps that I’m missing?
November 2, 2016 at 11:09 pm #477200Well, the Xbox 360 accepts Windows formatted drives if you’re on a recent dashboard update. For the Xbox to see your formatted drive as unformatted, tells me you’re not using an updated dashboard and therefore are not following the guide’s instructions.
November 3, 2016 at 10:25 am #477220Xbox360 only accepts FAT32 formatted drives, correct?
From what I remember, I formatted my USB drive on my Xbox360 around October last year. My PC was running Windows 10 at the time. After I updated to Anniversary Update early August this year, my PC could no longer read my drive, but other PC’s still on Windows 10 without the update could.
Reformatting to FAT32 on my PC with the Anniversary Update fixed the issue. Not sure what caused it.
November 3, 2016 at 7:49 pm #477240I haven’t had any issues before or since the update. Not sure why it doesn’t seem to affect everyone.

Nope, my 360 is 100% up–to-date on everything except the latest RB3 update.
