The first thing that my dad bought specifically for me because I was there and wanted it was “An Evening With John Denver” on 8-track back in probably 1980. I think the first thing I bought with my own money was Tears For Fears “Songs From the Big Chair” on cassette. First CD was “Tommy” that I got with my CD player for Christmas in 1989. First of about 6 different editions of that album I’ve gotten.
May 22, 2014 at 2:05 pm #420816Devil without a cause – Kid RockI think this might have been my second or third. My first few were Weird Al, Devil Without a Cause, South Park’s Chef Aid album, and The Beatles’ One.
May 22, 2014 at 2:28 pm #420819I had a few albums before this as presents, but the first album I bought with my own cold hard cash was Blink 182 – Enema of The State
May 22, 2014 at 3:56 pm #420821My first vinyl was Help by The Beatles
May 23, 2014 at 5:31 am #420858I have never bought an album. I don’t even own an album of any kind.
May 23, 2014 at 7:10 am #420861Pearl Jam’s “Ten,” the redux I think.
I didn’t always buy music.
May 24, 2014 at 1:13 am #420924It wasn’t just one. I signed up with Columbia House (before it became BMG music) and got like 15 cassettes for a penny! This was over 30 years ago, so as my memory serves:
The Doors Greatest Hits
Aerosmith’s Greatest Hits
Def Leppard “High ‘n Dry”, “Pyromania”
The Cars “Candy-O”
Boz Scaggs Greatest Hits (Don’t judge me or I just might chart one of those “hits”!!! >” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” /> )
Led Zeppelin “Houses of the Holy”
Zebra “Zebra” (Anyone here even heard of these guys? I liked one song from the radio, “Who’s Behind the Door”.)
Scorpions “Virgin Killer” (friggin’ awesome early Scorpions)
AC/DC “Back in Black”, “Highway to Hell”, “For Those About to Rock”
And a few more which I can’t remember.
May 24, 2014 at 1:48 am #420929Led Zeppelin – “Celebration Day” (2012)
Not bad for a one-hit wonder band.
May 25, 2014 at 12:20 am #420998If I’m excluding stuff purchased for me while I was a dependent (or stuff purchased with my allowance, for example), I believe the first album I purchased after I got a job was Andrew WK’s “I Get Wet”. It was certainly the first CD I purchased, anyway — I might have bought a cassette before then.
I have a lot of other random stuff from the early-90s to mid-90s that was gifted/purchased via Columbia House B1G3 promos, etc. I kind of drifted away from music purchasing in the late-90s.

not judging but Lido Shuffle would be cool for us somewhat senior citizens
May 25, 2014 at 7:26 pm #421056Franz Ferdinands self titled album. I may be wrong though, because I think I may have bought 3 Doors Downs first album (The Better Life) before that, but it would have been around the same time in 2004, maybe even the same day. Prior to that I had mostly just listened to my dads music though (which was a massive collection of all different music).
The Franz Ferdinand song Take Me Out is what made me want to play Guitar Hero (I thought it would be lots of fun to play it on a guitar). I picked that up in 2005 around when it came out, been playing rhythm games since.
May 26, 2014 at 5:18 pm #421103Use your illusion 2 by Guns n roses was my first, I spent so much time listening to that album.
May 28, 2014 at 10:04 am #421244My first vinyl lp was regatta de blanc by the police

May 31, 2014 at 7:26 pm #421520I believe this first album I bought was Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses.
