Weird issue; “Rock Band Free pack 01” (some rb2 bonus songs) not showing up. Is it possible to re-DL? Can it be RB:HP’s doing?

I’ve played Customs pretty much exclusively for like a year. Recently I went back to official songs (I keep them separate; customs on a flash drive which I remove when I play official songs, and official songs on the 360’s HDD which I take out when I play customs. I prefer to do it this way). I then realized that all (or at least, the ones I checked) of the “Rock Band Free Pack 01” songs, such as Visions, Rob the Prez o Dent, and A Jagged Gorgeous Winter are not visible in my library. It’s not a filters issue. I enabled 1 lighter songs, etc. I deleted the song cache.

I can see the 199 MB file for this pack on my HDD when I go into memory management, but the songs just aren’t showing up in-game. I certainly had them before, as it was a free pack. My thought was that possibly, it was some sort of Rock Band: Harmonies Project problem. I keep my customs separate, but RB:HP is on my main hard drive. I have put in a few Harmonies, pro guitar, and pro keys custom charts on to the official songs. I can’t really remember if any of the songs in that pack had those kinds of charts, but what other explanation could there be?

So first, I was thinking I should just go to the RB3 store and re-download the pack. But when I find the pack in the RB3 store it says “currently unavailable”. I also can’t seem to find it in my download history, for some reason. Fortunately I didn’t delete the non-functional pack file beforehand. I wanted to get a fresh copy from the store, but I can’t figure out how. Is there some way to download this file (officially, from the 360 store, xbox.com, rock band 3 ingame, whatever. Not asking for piracy etc).

I loaded up the pack file on to my customs USB stick to see if they’d show up there, but they didn’t work there either. Then I tried opening it in CON Tools. I don’t really know what SHOULD be there, but it seems normal (see image below)

Would it be safe to de-pack these into individual files and try loading them up in my official (as in, has the real TU5, connected to xbl, everything totally legit) RB3 library to see if they work?

I did notice that the pack was in the following directory (the xbox’s in-console file mover thing in storage management put it there) on my USB stick:

    F:Content000000000000000454109140000002

All my customs, however were put (by CON tools) in this directory:

    F:Content000000000000000454109140000001

    Could that be a clue?

It’s been a really long time since I put RB:HP in place, so I don’t really remember the procedure (it would have been whatever the procedure was about 30 months ago or something like that), but when going to “Rock band free pack 01” on my hard drive in storage management on the 360 dashboard I noticed this file (which I copied to my USB stick):

    RBHP_CustomUpgradePackage_20141220

I think this is the file containing the RBHP vocals/pro upgrade charts? I deleted it from my hard drive and then deleted the song cache to see if that would help anything, but it didn’t. I don’t really care so much about keeping RBHP charts at the moment anyway; I want to have all my official songs show up.

    Thanks for any ideas.

If I recall correctly, official RBN content and customs go into 00000001, official HMX content (including pro upgrades) go into 00000002.

RBHP_CustomUpgradePackage_20141220 is indeed your file containing upgraded charts. It’s really old so I advise you to download the latest and greatest for more upgrades and fixes, when you have this problem figured out.

If you don’t play online, there’s little reason to keep customs separate from official songs. I’ve reorganized everything into large packs (CON format) and they all go into 00000001. As long as the files themselves contain no internal problems, they all load just fine, including RB1/2 era DLC. I did however bake the RBHP upgrades into the song files themselves before creating packs, which is a long and arduous process, but well worth it, because it’s a one time process and saves you from the usual RBHP installation process when deleting the song cache.

The RB2 bonus songs have received harmonies where applicable, though I’m not sure they were already out late 2014. Your file seems to be a CON file, but to load it in a TU5 environment, it should be a LIVE file. That’s about all I can think of for now.

Well, I have played some RBHP pro guitar charts (I remember Highway Star in particular) with that CON file on my fully updated RB3 game. In fact I have a few leaderboard scores for those custom charts. I don’t think I needed a LIVE file…

Anyway, my main focus now is on simply getting the missing songs to show up. I’ll worry about loading RBHP efficiently afterwards…

RBHP upgrade files are an exception, fortunately. But custom songs and official songs in CON format won’t work on TU5 on an unmodded console.

Did you delete your song cache yet? Tends to solve many problems.

    #487920

Hmm, I wonder why I have the RB Free pack as a CON then? Could RBHP have made a CON out of it or something? Is there a way to change it to the right format?

I’m going to try and email microsoft and see if I can re-DL the pack but I doubt it’ll work because I can’t find it in my account’s download history for some reason.

Also I removed the RBHP upgrades CON and deleted the song cache. The files still aren’t showing up.

    #487921

C3 CON Tools can (batch) convert files between LIVE and CON formats, yes.

    #487927

Oops, I had somehow missed that option!

I guess next time I am at my parent’s house where our 360 is, I”ll convert it into a LIVE file and see if it loads in my fully updated RB3. Hopefully I don’t magically get banned from xbl or something. I’m very paranoid about that…

    #487929

That’s very unlikely. What would you have done wrong?

    #487968

Nothing really, that’s why I’m paranoid lol

So I haven’t really tried anything with this for a while, so I gave it a shot now. Long story short it didn’t work…

The file in the OP, that I put a screenshot of? In rbtousb, it says its a live file, even though when I open it in pack editor it says the thing it says in the screenshot “reading CON file ###########”. I tried doing converting it with con tools. When it was on live TO con, it couldn’t find the file (no RBA files). When it was on con TO live, it found it (found 1 STFS file) and did something. I erased the original from my memory stick in rbtousb and put in the result of the converter. It still says it’s a LIVE file, although I notice the file size is smaller. When I put the item on my USB stick and went to the memory thing to copy it to my HDD, it says it’s a corrupted file and won’t let me copy it.

Afterwards I tried opening the converted file in con tools pack editor again, and I get the same thing as in the original post… it says “reading CON file”, even though rbtousb says it’s a live file.

Is there anything I can do? I don’t know how the fuck this happened in the first place and it’s driving me crazy…

    #489009

    Sorry for double post…

I tried de-packing the 9 songs and doing them that way. Live to con converted, as before, didn’t find any files (supporting that they were CON already). CON to live found them, and I got the same output as when I tried doing the whole pack…

COnverting STFS file ‘Abnormality – Visions’

Successfully converted ‘Abnormality – Visions’ to LIVE

I put them on to my memory stick with rbtousb, and it says they are LIVE files, as it did with the pack, and again, they show up as corrupted items in the 360’s storage manager. I can’t copy them to my HDD to see if they show up ingame, but I assume they won’t because the 360 thinks they’re corrupted items.

I don’t know the xbox very much but when I used my modded xbox for customs on RB for transfering I would just transfer through FTP; have you tried that? IIRC the FTP server was included in my custom dashboard.

    #489035

The xbox isn’t modded and I don’t want to mod it, so I don’t think FTP’ing to the xbox’s hard drive is an option. Even so, I don’t think transferring a file that appears as a corrupted file will get RB3 to read it.

Oh, I thought you had a modded console since the ban concerns. You shouldn’t have any concerns of being banned if you don’t cheat or don’t have a modded console. To be fair people cheated on RB3 already on XB360 and were not banned (cheating as spoofing midi files to get more OD on official songs and such)

    #489087

Nah, I’ve just heard M$ is pretty ban-happy when you start messing around with files, and I’ve spent so much money on RB/GH DLC that I don’t want to risk anything. One of my friends got his 360 banned for doing similar stuff with another game (I think he was trying to put custom skins in Assassin’s Creed?) on a non-modded console. Well, I guess I havne’t been banned for installing RBHP stuff about two years ago (and having some leaderboard scores for charts that don’t exist, because of RBHP, such as pro keys on Highway Star)… that’s probably how this song pack got messed up, but unfortunately it was a long time ago and I can’t remember what I did to them. I don’t think I’m going to be able to fix it at this point, and you can’t re-download this pack from the store…
