So, this isn’t so much a “collaboration” so much as me throwing something out there.

I’ve been working to see if I can pull viable multitrack audio (it’s not perfect but nothing ever is) from a number of formats from the sequencer days, and so far I’ve got it working for the SNES (with the caveat that the audio comes out of the ripper I’m using fairly quiet) and the GB (with the caveat that it seems to be working weirdly with the one song I want to rip, so I’m not sure how it’ll be for every track).

I can either give you some advice on the process, or rip the audio for you for songs you want. Once there, you can throw it into REAPER, tempo map to one (or all) of the tracks, and then chop it up to fit your instrument mapping. The audio would/will come in the following formats:

      SNES

      * One .wav per “instrument” — note that this can cause an issue if the game has same “instrument” playing at different pitches on different channels to represent different real instruments, since they could play at the same time and be tough to split, as I ran into with the song I was demoing with.

      * One .wav per channel — the issue with this is that some sounds/effects can linger and overlap, and the same instrument can be thrown across multiple channels to fit whatever is available, so you might end up doing far more chopping.

      GB

      * One .wav per channel — Square 1, Square 2, Noise, and PCM.

If you’re interested in audio, let me know (for stuff that loops I’ll need to know when you expect to try and cut it off/end it so I can capture audio to that point). If you’re interested in the process I use, let me know. If you’re interested in other formats, let me know and I’ll start investigating the viability.

The songs I currently have penciled in (and I say penciled because I don’t know if/when I’ll finish) are:

SNES: Chrono Trigger – “Battle with Magus” (the one I tested with; gotta fiddle with the tempo map to get it right in one spot but basic charting done)

SNES: Earthbound – “Pokey Means Business” (worth it for the 2x bass part at 0:54)

      GB: Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge – “

” (for whatever reason the drums cut out on me 5s in, though if you mute the other channels you can “hear” that something is being sent… the effects just don’t play)

I’d definitely be interested in authoring some game tracks, happy to help with anything.

Does it have to be chiptune tracks, or can it be from more recent games as well? IF more recent stuff is in, I would love to throw Scherzo Di Notte in from Kingdom Hearts 2.

I’ll have to see about ripping stuff from PS2 discs/audio rips, as I’m honestly not familiar with the tools available.

Edit: On a quick glance, it doesn’t look like it can do multi-tracks, but it could rip a .wav. If it’s disc audio instead of OST audio that would avoid fade-out issues and might let you do your own endings.

I don’t know about ripping from the in-game audio. It is a pre-recoded piece anyway so no multi-track sweetness here

I only have the OST version. FYI, I also have my ways of making a fade-out on an mp3 into a cut-off (See: Scare Crow, N.W.O., Just One Fix)

Ah, well, I mean if you want to do it up, there’s nothing stopping you.

This thread was more for people wanting to get multi- (or almost multi-) track audio before they authored, so if this isn’t a sequenced piece, probably no benefit to doing it with something besides the OST anyway, especially if you’re comfortable doing your own endings.
