Hey everyone. So I have a bit of experience authoring harmonies, and of the legacy instruments, it is the most difficult and daunting to chart. I’m a bit apprehensive to put this out there, since I am a relatively new charter and I don’t feel like I have the “authority” to be teaching others to chart. I just felt that I had some knowledge and advice about charting harmonies that isn’t in any of the other tutorials, such as pksages let’s author, nyxyxylyth’s vocal charting guide, and farottone’s authoring guide (which you should watch/read all of those as they all still have very valuable information).

Still I felt that having a video guide solely for harmonies may help beginners, and if it causes more songs to have full harmonies, then I feel like I have done my job.

Please comment below and let me know if anything I said was particularly wrong or misleading, or if you have anything else to add.

The scale tip (both website and checkbox) was worth the price of admission alone. Thank you for putting this together.

Haha I’m glad I could help. The scale thing really changes the game for authoring harmonies.

Charting harmonies will still be a challenge, but you gave me a lot of tools to work with now, which is great, so I’m hopeful. =-)

Oh! By the way. I don’t know if this will help, but wanted to mention, just in case, since I noticed your all-too-familiar Reaper crash in the video. I have now developed a good habit of hitting save before doing any CTRL+z action. I’ve observed that when Reaper stores a lot of data in memory, and you then try to undo it, it crashes. It’s not consistent, but saving before that action has saved me a lot of aggravation and heartache since the only thing I usually lose is time to open it all back up again.

You’re absolutely right. I have noticed that most times when I crash, it’s because I hit unto. It mostly happens when I have 2 project tabs open, and therefore twice the amount of memory to store. I have already developed a habit of unconsciously saving, and when I was editing the video I noticed myself going and hitting save while I was in the middle of talking, not even thinking about it. Always save, save, save, and then save again <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

I always enjoy the more in-depth tutorial videos. Still new to full-band charting, and anything that gets into the little details for any aspect of the process is much appreciated. I haven’t watched it yet, but I’m sure it’ll help with the songs I’m working on, so thanks!
