I know I’ve made mentions, but never actually a proper thread.

With “The Best of The Who” pack, & the super bowl mash-up, The Who has had some great releases in the past, but there’s so much more we could get from that would be great, especially with added keys & harmonies.

“Tommy” a groundbreaking album that would have amazing harmonies & rhythm sections & just a great story to it. Plenty to cherry-pick from, but probably would work well as a full album, & the ending alone would be awesome to sing in unison.

“The Who Sell Out” The Who’s early work is just as amazing as later. Very keyboard heavy album & the harmonies are very ambitious. & the “radio jingles” in between songs would be very fun to see included. “Tattoo” “Marry-Anne with the Shaky Hands” & “Silas Stingy” would be especially fun. (they also covered “In The Hall of the Mountain King” which seems like it would be a very difficult, but fun instrumental)

“Quadrophenia” Personally, my favorite album, from a story standpoint, to the music, to all the emotion involved. Quadrophenia probably was Pete Townshend’s most ambitious project (next to Lifehouse, which didn’t happen). From the opening sounds of the sea, to the ending sounds of the rain falling & Roger screaming “Reign O’er Me” the album itself or just a few choice songs, would be absolutely amazing to see. If anything “The Real Me’ & “Reign O’er Me” would be ideal.

“The Who By Numbers” is just a straight up rock album. Very personal to Pete himself, songs about war, alcohol, and even a song featuring a ukulele, this would also be fun when it comes to the whole band, harmonies & keys as well. The bass on “Dreaming from the Waist” alone would be worth a chart. Keys & harmonies & the solo on “Slip Kid” would be fun & somewhat intricate. “However Much I Booze” at just over 5 minutes would be blast on everything, especially with Pete on vocals. “In A Hand or A Face” would most likely be the ideal track, crazy drum & bass track, nice, prominent harmonies & just has something for everyone. & there’s also the classic “Squeeze Box” which features some banjo.

Then of course, there’s harmony upgrades & key upgrades that should be done before anything else, harmonies on “Behind Blue Eyes” & “Who Are You” (not to mention the piano part) are a must.

There’s also the random singles like “The Seeker” which was previously on Guitar Hero III, that would be fitting to Rock Band. “Anyway, Anywhere, Anyhow” an early Who single, would also offer plenty of variety. “Water” would be absolutely incredible when it comes to everything. The length of the song, the blistering solos, the vocals & harmonies, this is one of the songs that showed why The Who are one of the best live, “Naked Eye” & “A Quick One While He’s Away” also fall into the same category. There’s also songs off of albums that worked as singles such as “You Better You Bet”, “Sister Disco” & “I’ve Known No War”. The latter, especially.

& then of course, there’s the rest of Who’s Next. There was always the rumor that we didn’t’ get it because the master track of “Bargain” was lost, may have also been some issue with “My Wife”, & John Entwistle’s estate, but this album is considered the best pure “rock” album, & if anything, is the most radio friendly, of The Who.

I’m not asking for all of these songs or albums, even though that would be absolutely amazing, I’ve just always felt that we never really got into The Who’s catalog & that there was so much great, incredible music that wasn’t even being touched. I really hope with all the talented people cranking out this great customs, that there’s at least something in the pipeline, or that there someday could be.

If anything, today (May 19th) is Pete Townshend’s Birthday, & a thread discussing his music just seems fitting.

How ’bout Pete’s solo work? Two outstanding albums: the 1980 release Empty Glass, and the somewhat lesser known White City: A Novel from 1985.

From those I think that you could pick a few songs that would be pretty fun in RB terms. My choices:

      Rough Boys

Let My Love Open The Door

      A Little Is Enough

      Gonna Get Ya

      Brilliant Blues

      Face The Face

      Secondhand Love

      Crashing By Design

      White City Fighting

Both of those albums are fantastic in my opinion. I’ve always thought “Rough Boys”, “A little is Enough”, “Let My Love Open The Door”, “Gonna Get Ya”, “Secondhand Love”, & “Face the Face” would be amazing on RB.

I also really enjoyed All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes. “The Sea Refuses No River”, “Exquisitely Bored”, “Communication”, Stardom in Action”, “Somebody Saved Me”, & “Slit Skirts” are all good.

Needless to say, between Pete Townshend & The Who, there’s a lot of good in that catalog.

I agree. I’m obviously not quite the Who fan that you are, but I’d like to add a big vote for anything off of The Who By Numbers, “Slip Kid” in particular. A work of Rock Art (and maybe some Keith Moon work that this old guy might be able to follow).

+1 for Squeeze Box. Also, you can’t have a Who topic without mentioning Substitute.

I honestly have no idea how I forgot “Substitute” or “The Kids Are Alright” for the matter, harmonies on that one would be really fun.

Keys upgrades on existing songs. I’d really like it if at least those could be done.

Definitely. The piano on “Who Are You”, “Baba O’Riley”, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, “Sea & Sand”, “Eminence Front’, “Leaving Here” “Going Mobile” & even “Real Good Looking Boy” are deserving enough for upgrades.

Most of the songs could also use harmonies. “Behind Blue Eyes”, “Who Are You”, & “My Generation” specifically.

Ideally, those should be done before any new songs, but then again, a whole pack of old & new would be nice <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” /> could be a lot of work though, but no doubt would be fun to play.
