June 18, 2015 at 7:06 pm #448466I received an error of “[music_start] event in EVENTS track is too early in the track”. I moved the text to the beginning and even removed it. Oh and this was in magma
Put put that text even at 3.1.1 or when the music stars
August 1, 2015 at 2:24 am #451742Love the amazing work you guys have done here.
Noticed that there arent really any Country fans, so I thought I may at some point take it upon myself to start charting.
A couple questions.
Is there anywhere I can grab a zip of all the software pieces I need or am I going to have to look for them separately?
Also, thinking back to when many of you first started this, what would you say your average time from start to completion was on 1 song? (Take into account you’re talking to an incredibly OCD/perfectionist person)
August 1, 2015 at 6:29 am #451765Is there anywhere I can grab a zip of all the software pieces I need or am I going to have to look for them separately? No single zip file, but you can find everything you need right here.
Also, thinking back to when many of you first started this, what would you say your average time from start to completion was on 1 song? (Take into account you’re talking to an incredibly OCD/perfectionist person)I believe I remember reading one of the C3 authors suggesting a first custom can take around 48 hours to complete, with further customs paring down to 24 hours or less. Of course the time involved depends heavily on factors like the length of the song, the number of instruments charted, whether you decide to do lower difficulties, how “buried” a particular instrument is in the mix, whether you have an existing MIDI and/or sheet music and/or are good at picking things out by ear, and so on. Note also that is cumulative time, so, say, working on your first custom for two hours a day for as many days as it takes would take 24 days, or roughly a month. Ignoring certain circumstances such as losing a good bit of work to a hard drive wipe, that sounds about right for what my first couple of customs took.

Excluding all trial and error procedures to just get things to work technically, my first song took a couple of hours. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> I took an existing FoF chart, slapped on some rough vocals, corrected the drums chart, added OD and fills and compiled. Of course vocals were pretty much crap (correct pitches, very wrong timing and length) but I got to play one of my favourite songs in game. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> Had I not been that superficial I probably would have never gone down this path, because right away if I had to spend 14 hours on one song I would have given up.
August 1, 2015 at 4:37 pm #451793Yeah, thanks guys, I was just curious…
Granted I dont really have any musical background or the ear outside of playing RB and GH since basically close to the beginning (entered at GH2)
It took me quite some time to properly chart the tempo for my first track…
I guess I am just curious if anyone has any really tried and true thoughts on the best way to tackle something from the open…
I am still trying to get acclimated with Reaper and unfortunately I have found that the RBN Preview for some reason doesnt want to read notes on my machine (my guess, I have a 64-bit, even though I am using all 32 bit software)
And I also downloaded all of the other tools and think once I get the hang of things, CAT will probably really help me a tremendous amount from what I have read on it…
Again, you guys do a great job and I wouldnt be looking into tackling any of this without you, so any advice and encouragement is more than welcome….either here or on my Twitter (same handle)
Thanks, and hopefully I will have something before end of the weekend that you guys can pick apart and fix ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

It seems that the Dry VOX Focus does not have a link nor does it seem to have a page.

bumping this! I’ve been trying to follow the Farottone guide, but things are not making sense, and I’m thinking that’s because I haven’t watched the important video tutorial by pksage. Please please please, someone re-up the video.

Is there anything specific that you need help on?
April 10, 2016 at 2:53 pm #466785similar to yegods above, I am trying to follow the guide and am not getting very far.
I downloaded all the tools, found a mid file, and imported that along with the mp3 into reaper but that is as far as I got !!
I mean I moved the start of the track to 3.1.00 and double click on an instrument track but I have no idea how to tell if they lined up properly.
And this just has me baffled: I get the first part about extending the track but after that..
4.1.4 Now we do a foolproof copypaste. First of all, drag the MIDI guitar track so
that it extends to the very beginning, at measure 1.1.00. DON’T MOVE IT!
You need to drag the left end so it touches the beginning of the project, so
that it looks like all the other MIDI tracks in the project. Now double click
the track to open it. Look at the bottom of the track and you will see the
PART GUITAR text event. Drag that to 1.1.00. Now you simply select all and
copy.
And when picking a guitar track, I see overdrive, distortion, melody and not sure which to pick.
Anyways, I thought I was pretty good at following instructions but I am kinda lost here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to be able to contribute to the community.

Are you saying you can’t make a connection between the audio and the notes on screen? If that’s the issue, I’m not sure I can help, understanding what happens in the song with the added help of the MIDI notes/sheet music is a fundamental pre-requisite of authoring. If it’s not the issue, can you elaborate more on what got you stumped?
April 11, 2016 at 5:24 am #466827Thanks for this guide. I made a custom using the RBN docs a few months ago but lost it (song was Marina and the Diamonds – I Am Not a Robot). It was also a complete shit show, which had bad tempo mapping and a horrible venue track. I think I’ll go back and do it more properly and follow this guide, then release it here. Some people might appreciate it, even though the song itself is fairly simple, but I mainly made it so I could later sing it.
January 30, 2017 at 1:33 am #480733I’ve never authored anything before but am eager to learn. Having trouble getting Reaper (v4.22) properly configured right now.
I added the C3 Custom RB3 Template.RPP file to to %appdata%ReaperProjectTemplates and copied the W1 Limiter DLLs into both that folder and the Program filesReaperPlugins folders. Opening the C3 template in Reaper gives me the following errors:
The following effects were in the project file and are not available. REAPER will keep their configurations, but things may not sound as desired.Master: VST: W1 Limiter (George Yohng)Track 1: VST: W1 Limiter (George Yohng)Track 3: VSTi: RBN Preview (RBN)Track 4: VSTi: RBN Preview (RBN)Track 5: VSTi: RBN Preview (RBN)Track 13: VSTi: RBN Preview (RBN)January 30, 2017 at 1:34 am #480734You need to install the RBN plugins that you can find along with all other tools in the opening post of the stickied thread.
