With Christmas over, we’ve got our last release of 2013 fast approaching. As such, I figured it might be best to get a hit thread up sooner rather than later, though it’s still about a day later that I’d like.
Nevertheless, here are some hints for this week’s releases. There’s an interesting commonality between all but one of tracks, too.
- Albums featuring versions of this song in two languages, charted in the top three in the countries where these languages originated… though neither was in the artist’s native tongue. The English-language album was also aptly titled, given what transpired.
- An Italian song that got its break in Spain, it unfortunately never managed to fly up the music charts. That is, of course, until we got an English-language cover, which went on to break into the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and marked the band’s first Top 10 hit.
- This track was the second in an impressive run of top-ten singles in the UK and hit the Top 40 in North America (though it was their lowest Top 40 charter) — an impressive feat given that it wasn’t supposed to be a single in the first place. It also had a foreign language version, though neither version was in the language one might initially expect.
- This hot track finds itself within two degrees of a track off Daft Punk’s most recent album. It also had three foreign language versions, though by different artists. My personal favourite came out a mere year after the original’s release.
- An iconic disco track, this one was the artist’s only number one hit, and a cover of it gave another artist one-hit wonder status is the 90s — though perhaps not the artist you may think. Oh, and it also saw a trio of foreign language releases, though none were as notable as the same-language covers it got.
- Originally offered to the two previous artists, this single would go on to be a fairly big hit in the US and UK (among others), and would see a cover become a smash hit in the UK almost twenty years later. Unfortunately, it breaks the foreign language cover streak, as I can’t seem to find any — unless you consider American English and British English to be different languages, of course.
Best of luck guys. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>

Boy, was that thing everywhere over here during those years.

“Winds of Change” by Scorpions?
There are Spanish and English versions–and a Russian version, I’ve learned… though Scorpions are Deutsch.

December 29, 2013 at 3:03 pm #411338I don’t know if it fits in with any of the clues, but Avril Lavigne -Girlfriend had many other language versions
also ABBA do loads if not all their songs in at least their own language and English right?
December 30, 2013 at 5:22 am #411371Wait so songs are coming out on Tuesday December 31st this week instead of the usual Friday (January 3rd) release? If so, sweet! As far as the hints I don’t have a clue!
December 30, 2013 at 4:51 pm #411383These are perhaps the most fiendish, complex hints yet! I can’t even begin to guess!

If that is the case then it means there’s either Diana Ross, Cher, Donna Summer or Barbara Streisand songs coming as well, and (with the exception of Ms Streisand) they’ll be getting instantly downloaded.
Great clues this week!
(Also, the Daft Punk clue indicates there’s at least one song written or produced by Nile Rodgers or Giorgio Moroder in the game, meaning it’s very likely to be Donna Summer or Diana Ross, which would make this an ultimate party songs pack!)
