Ok i’ve been trying to tempo map a song the last few days and its just not going well i really don’t know what i’m doing wrong even don’t know if i’m doing anything right either but i did make one song its not the prettiest song out there but it works and i know theres a few problems i need to fix in it but right now i’m trying to tempo map another song and i’m about to just give up this is my second time doing it and its just a crap show. This is what i did for the first song i made i looked up the bpm online then used that bpm in the song and used the metronome to map out the song and it worked for the most part but i did that on another song and its just not working i watched all the demos of people doing it and i think i get it but unsure if i’m doing anything right or wrong i would really like some help i have passion to make songs i know how to use reaper and can fix anything wrong that that magma finds i just can’t make a tempo map to save my life if anyone out there can tell me what i’m doing wrong and doing right i will be really grateful.
April 13, 2016 at 4:41 am #466994Do you understand how time signatures work and how to count them? That was the main issue I had when learning tempo mapping: I had absolutely zero knowledge of music theory. Make sure you at least learn what a downbeat is and how you can find them by looking at peaks in the song’s waveform in reaper. The tutorials here are good, but you do need to know some basic stuff like this that you won’t learn here.
April 13, 2016 at 4:48 am #466997I know a little bit about time signatures and how Most songs are 4/4 times i was in band for a few years so i can read a little of sheet music
April 13, 2016 at 5:41 am #466999Also, what song are you working on? A lot of songs, especially a lot of modern stuff, have brickwalled production that makes it difficult to see the waveform peaks that match downbeats in the song.
April 13, 2016 at 5:47 am #467000Right now i’m working on 2 songs Play Date by Melanie Martinez and Heavy Liftin by Blake Shelton
April 13, 2016 at 6:54 am #467001Due to human imperfection, the tempo is not going to stay consistent between two measures. You have to map the tempo to each individual measure. THere are some how-to tutorials in the Tools, Support, and Advice forum sticky threads.
April 13, 2016 at 10:33 pm #467029Are you having trouble with the physical Reaper commands and way of dropping the tempo markers? Or are you more confused how HOW to tempo map (such as where the downbeat is, trouble hearing things, ect)?
April 14, 2016 at 1:21 am #467041confused on how tempo mapping works i know how to use q and use reaper i just can’t tempo map finding the right areas to drop a marker i also watched the videos just isn’t sinking in unless i’m just not understanding it correctly i’m pretty sure i seen all the videos
