I posted in the WIP forum the I have What It Takes by Aerosmith in progress. I’ve watched pksages lessons on how to map and got what I felt was a pretty good map. I completed charting drums, guitar and bass. It’s my understanding the tempo map should follow the downbeats. By doing this, I get ~36 bpm. I figure all is good so I wanted to run it through Magma and I get 90+ errors that magma doesn’t recognize less than 40 bpm. Obviously I’ve done something wrong.
A little guidance is appreciated and I’m hoping I don’t have to start over from scratch.
Thanks.
January 17, 2014 at 3:42 pm #412377How are you defining the down beat?

January 17, 2014 at 3:49 pm #412379Snare hitNope. A 4/4 measure, which being an Aerosmith song and all is probably what’s going to be, is kick, snare, kick, snare. 1, 2, 3, 4. You have probably halved the tempo AND authored upbeat because you inverted the sequence having a syncopated beat with the snare in place of the kick.
January 17, 2014 at 3:55 pm #412380Awesome. Kinda what I figured. So starting from scratch is my only option at this point? Or is there a way to adjust the midi notes for the new tempo map?

Or is there a way to adjust the midi notes for the new tempo map?You can group-shrink them. Choose a 1/4 grid, draw a 2 1/4 note at 1.1.00. CTRL+A, then holding CTRL drag the end of the note you’ve just drawn and shrink. Since you’ve chosen a 1/4 grid the note will be shrunk exactly by half and with that all notes. Delete the note you added.
Make sure all notes are quantized before you do this to make it as painless as possible and check for triplets to see that they haven’t gone out of grid.
January 17, 2014 at 4:21 pm #412384Thank you very much. I can’t believe I actually understand all that when I week ago I was just staring at Reaper with a blank look on my face, but it makes sense.
