The stage kits are pretty hard to find now and they’re still a little pricey. I wanted to get 2 Hexolight 6000’s as an alternative, but now those seem to be sold out everywhere, too. Amazon just has a couple of 3000’s left. Is there anything else besides these that someone can vouch for? I’m not too concerned about the fog/strobe side of it, because those aren’t too difficult to find. I just want something that can produce a decent light show while being somewhat in sync with the songs in RB3. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks!

January 25, 2016 at 3:12 am #462505I play in a big room and have the stage kit. But I also wanted more lights and came across a site called musiciansfriend.com and bought a couple other lights. They have a huge selection light wise and price wise. And if you check the site out often enough they have some great deals. The 2 I got have a switch on the back…. to switch to sound that the mic picks up to play with your music. They are awesome and makes playing RB even more fun. They also have fog machines and strobe lights. Hope this helps and check it out.

September 16, 2016 at 9:00 pm #474978Hi – sorry for bumping an older thread but didnt think i needed to start a new one.
I am in the market for a stage kit alternative as well and was wondering if anybody could recommend some specific gear that works well and isnt too expensive.
Fat Ha1p3rt – did you end up finding anything for yourself ?
September 17, 2016 at 12:40 am #474981I’ll update this post when I get home tonight. I didn’t find anything on the website CrazyCanuck linked, but I found a great alternative. Check back in a couple hours and I’ll show you.
EDIT: Okay, so first just check out everything in action (0:15 to about 1:00): https://youtu.be/l6-lj9gY2Bs?t=15s
So what you’re seeing there is a combination of a few things. At the bottom those bright lights are 2 Hexolight 3000’s. Those sync up really well with your speakers, especially if you have a subwoofer. Place those on the floor near your subwoofer and the bass/low end will activate them. Each light can be removed from its place and arranged in different ways. You can have 2 towers of 3, lay them all flat for a long row, or even spread them all in different places 1 by 1. You can also adjust the sound sensitivity and the frequency of the light flashes. They look more intense in the video than they actually are, but they’re on the floor so they don’t shine in anyone’s eyes. These are getting slightly hard to find apparently, judging by looking at Google for a couple minutes. They show up on eBay and Amazon from time to time.
That half-globe looking little ball in front of the lights is an LED dome. I didn’t pay quite this much for mine, but this is just what showed up after 10 seconds on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Colorful-Sound-Activated-Mini-LED-Crystal-Dome-Light-Show-DJ-Disco-Party-Lamp-/201479422553?hash=item2ee91c0259:g:ulIAAOSwf-VWYycp
That ^ is also activated by sound, but sort of the opposite. It is constantly projecting light on the walls, but sound causes it to flicker in time with the music. I like to use this for my walls. Plug it in front of your TV/setup, but a little towards the center of the room so that it catches your side walls.
The final thing I have for my setup is a laser light. This can be seen at the end of the video when the camera pans up to the ceiling. You can do it my way and place it on the ground pointed up at the ceiling, or you can use the wall/ceiling mount and project it onto the floor. I find it a little hard to see when I use that method, so I like to keep it on the ceiling. This isn’t activated by sound, but you can customize how fast the lights move or just make them completely stationary. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Laser-Projector-Stage-Lights-Mini-LED-R-G-Lighting-Xmas-Party-DJ-Disco-KTV-Show-/391397146358?hash=item5b21167ef6:g:wMsAAOSwoBtW1iv5
The advantage of this setup is that it isn’t exclusively for Rock Band. The LED dome and laser light are literally pocket-sized and you can take those 2 pieces with you to parties and events. You can also add a strobe light and a fog machine to this setup, but I don’t care for either of those things. The strobe light makes it hard to focus on playing the game, and I am just not interested in a fog machine. The official stage kit in its entirety is going for north of $75 consistently, but it is incredibly underwhelming compared to spending that much money on other forms of lighting. I hope this helps.

September 20, 2016 at 9:21 pm #475192Thanks FatHa1p3rt – that does help a lot !!
I am just trying to find some of those items either locally or online and hope to have something similar set up for an upcoming RB party that i hope to have in the new year.
Its too bad those hexolights are nowhere to be found these days.
Anyway – appreciate the help !!
