Now, apologies if this is classed as “piracy” since it involves official content although from what I could tell, the rules were more about sharing and not discussing modification, but for the record, all content has been purchased and it’s more to try and get some breathing room around the pesky song limit, also apologies if this belongs in elsewhere.

So, as we know, throughout Rock Band 3’s life, Harmonix released numerous RB3 versions of official DLC (and some exports), I was wondering if it was possible to replace the originals completely with these RB3 versions, what I’m assuming the process would be is

    1. Use the pack tool to edit the packs (Queen Pack, RB2/LEGO Exports etc), and then remove the “RB1 Versions” songs from the pack.

    2. Extract Bon Jovi, Queen packs etc and edit the songs.dta file to remove the (RB3 Version) from the file name.

    3. Put on Xbox and play.

So, I’m wondering if anyone has attempted this before, if so, am I on the right track or is there an easier way?

I also assume that editing the DTA (and editing the pack) will break the songs under TU5 as they would have to be recreated as a CON file instead of the LIVE file they are now, if so, is there a non destructive way to go about this? I use a separate hard drive with all my DLC etc on for customs anyways to keep them completely separate and make sure I don’t upload any scores from customs etc to the leaderboards, so it’s not a huge issue if I can’t get them working this way since I have the originals stored on the “online” drive but if I can get this working on my games on demand version it would be great too.

    Thanks

    Matt

On wii you can pack DLCs anywhere you want (any generation, folder, etc) as long as the path to the files is right inside the DTA.

Leaderboards, etc are controlled by the song_id, so that should still work.

Xbox folks probably aren’t used to edit the path manually inside the DTA, so here’s a placement list (which is not complete, sadly) to help you.

About either modifying or creating a CON file outside of magma, I think C3 CON tools can at least do one of them. (I’m a wii folk, I’m not used to the CON tools, only wii converter <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />)
