Hi. I’m working on a song and I’m having trouble when I try to build it with Magma.

 

It seems that the problem is that when I export the MIDI file in Reaper, it’s exporting lyric events to Harm1, Harm2 and Harm3 that don’t even exist.

Any help is appreciated.

It’s hard to say exactly what’s wrong when this kind of thing happens, but an easy way to test is to run the problematic vocal track(s) through CAT’s Vocals->Fix Text Events function and then export the midi again. I did this with the RPP you uploaded and after letting CAT fix the text events for the HARMx tracks the midi tests clean. However it still doesn’t tell us what was wrong. My guess is that one or more of your text markers are not of the correct type. You’d have to check them all, starting before the place where Magma reports the first error. It could be way before this point, or it could be right before this point.

 

By ‘not of the correct type’, I mean that you have something that you mean to be a lyric coded as possibly a plain text event, or something else. Or you have a play marker coded as a lyric (or something else). It will be something like this. I should also say that I don’t know anything about non-English lyrics so it is possible that an illegal character can cause this problem. I’ve just never seen it before.

In your RPP file, I went into “Mode: event list” and in the places where those lyric errors are, I see these weird event lines labeled “Meta-event”:

 

 

 

On exporting the MIDI they appear to be copying the data from a lyric event. I don’t know what they are but you should hopefully be able to delete them from the event list view.

Thanks to both of you guys. Onyxite’s solution worked. I deleted the meta-events and then reloaded the lyrics again and everything was good.

I didn’t want to mess with CAT vocal cleanup because there are so many options and I didn’t want to mess up the chart even more. But I think I might try that one in the future. Hopefully I don’t have to!

Good news! All I would use the CAT function for in your case is to see if it is an event problem as opposed to a bad tempo marker or something else. You don’t need to save the resulting RPP, it’s just one way of debugging the problem.
