So they are making a new Silent Hill game, this time by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro in the lead and with a main character played and designed after Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame.

    Playable teaser trailer:

What are your thoughts on it? What did you think of the playable teaser, and do you hope or hope not the gameplay style shown in it will be used in the actual game instead of the classic third person style? Do you think Hideo Kojima is the right person to be making a game in this franchise in particular? Also, what do you think the new title with the “hill” part now being “Hills” could mean?

I played the PT teaser the day after it came out without seeing any footage and thought it was quite nerve racking. The very last puzzle is total bullshit though. I had to look on the internet as to how to solve it. Other than that I’m hoping the developers take their time with the main game and throw in tons of easter eggs just like what Kojima is known for in his previous works. This series has been slammed by critics for the past 10 years and would be great for it to claim its crown again like the earliest games in the series.

I agree, I feel the series really needs fresh blood, and Hewlett, while I have nothing against him personally, was not the right man for the job with Silent Hill if you ask me. I don’t really feel he “got” the whole thing that the original Team Silent were trying to do with the idea of Silent Hill (the location).

When he came into the series, a lot of things started to feel very forced, and many ideas that were meant to be kept for one characters journey through SH were shoehorned into other titles illogically. Pyramid Head is a prime example. Homecoming should have never had that character at all (even if its renamed). Pyramid Head was made specifically for James’ journey through Silent Hill, and it really wasn’t meant to be found in any other installments in the same or a similar form (even if the name of the creature is changed).

That said, I think Kojima might be the right man for the job. I think having him do this with the help of del Toro gives Silent Hills the real potential to be the best game since Silent Hill 4, maybe even 3.

Still first person, which I am not all that happy with, but we will see what happens when actual gameplay is eventually shown. Also is it just me or does this trailer have some serious Nightmare on Elm’s Street vibes over it?

Looking great. I wouldn’t mind one bit if the game stays in the first person mode or they have the option for the player to switch on the fly between third and first person. I also hope they don’t spoil too much of the game. Already convinced this is going to be a great game after playing the PT.

I wonder what would Team Silent have done with the first person format. I guess we’ll never know. The game looks great, but the title seems incredibly silly to me. It’s like “Alien” and “Aliens” or something.
