Yeah, I know the later DLC wasn’t HMX’ fault, but still. You always got the most out of Rock Band if you had the Xbox version. Even now with Custom Songs, you pretty much need to have the Xbox version. So my guess is, that it will be the same with the new game.
I’m really asking myself what they can do to make a new Rock Band interesting. I mean, the only thing they said so far is, that they get rid of keyboards, which is a step back instead of adding something new, if you ask me.
March 5, 2015 at 6:59 pm #439867Well, there’s plenty of things they can do to make it interesting. But rather than speculate on what’s in, I’ll just wait.
But as to things being better on Xbox, yeah, well some of us saw the signs early (or early-ish) and switched. I started RB and GH on a Wii. After about $1,000 into hardware, games and dlc, I realized that Xbox was the place to be and started over. Boy was I glad I did that.
The customs being easier on Xbox is again, not entirely HMX’s doing. Microsoft makes it easier based on the lack of encryption required of the game files (if we had to encrypt the MIDI and mogg back when customs were being worked out for Xbox, they probably wouldn’t have happened, it’s partly why it took so long to get them going on PS3), along with ability for the user to access the storage. All those hardships are on Sony and Nintendo. Obviously what led to the discovery of customs was the exploit introduced by RB1, so that is partly HMX’s fault, but I highly doubt they created that headache for themselves on purpose because they preferred Xbox ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
March 5, 2015 at 7:02 pm #439868No keys? Guess I’ll still be playing Rock Band 3 occasionally, can’t wait to see what features RB4 will have! I’m hoping they actually have some form of vs mode this time
March 5, 2015 at 7:14 pm #439869Sure why not? But my ideal bundle needs a guitar, one of those neat two-strum bar basses, three mics, a drum set, cymbals, pad silencers, an xbone, the game, and a beer. Oh and a groupie.PS, groupies are necessary for a true band simulator. Let’s get with it HMX. Literally.

Sad Pikachu, of course my ideal bundle would also have a keyboard in it if keys were a thing in RB4. I am right there with you being disappointed they are not in RB4, even though I don’t play keys except on guitar. Maybe they will at least support keys on guitar in the legacy DLC, since they have the charts already, and we can whip up some kind of modded keyboard to use.
On the bright side though, at least we won’t have to deal with All Instruments Mode anymore…
March 5, 2015 at 7:32 pm #439871I’m not getting a new console. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed RB4 DLC is also released as RB3 DLC and someone like Bluzer rips the disk setlist.Wow that would be … kind of awesome. How weird would it be to play new RB4 DLC on RB3 as your primary platform?
March 5, 2015 at 7:36 pm #439872Well, think of it like this. Would Harmonix start up releasing DLC in 2015 for RB3 only to do so for a few months and then stop when RB4 comes out, and then those songs already released in 2015 wouldn’t work for RB4?
My hope is that either 1) the DLC is directly usable in RB4 and RB3 by design, or 2) it would be a matter of changing containers if they can’t use the Xbox/PS3 format to store the song contents.
#1 is awesome and effortless. #2 is pretty low effort, considering C3 does the conversions to support customs in FOUR platforms ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> The hard part is creating the song. Once that’s done, converting it is a piece of cake – specially when Harmonix gets to decide if they keep 100% of the same file structure and contents and just have to change the container.
March 5, 2015 at 7:40 pm #439873Oh no why did they drop key’s support? I loved the ability to play along to my favourite song’s on pro key’s.
I never cared much for Pro guitar/bass as i prefer Rocksmith when it comes to playing a real guitar, but to ditch keys..Bad move Harmonix!
March 5, 2015 at 7:48 pm #439874No pro guitar, no keys and maybe no harmonies… I was expecting pro keys with two hands (even I don’t know how it can be done)
So why rock band 4 would be better than rock band 3?
I don’t have xbox want and I’m not planning to get one for now.
I have the rock band 2 drum set with 3 cymbals (soon it will have 6!) and double bass and hi hat pedal (soon this will alternate between blue and yellow notes), 2 gh guitars, 1 rb1 guitar, 1 fender presicion bass, 1 mustang pro guitar and the keyboard. RB4 should support all this stuff.
I like the real style of pro instruments, but they need to be better:
Pro drums need upgrades
Since I’m modding my drum kit, I wil make a hi hat to play open and close hits like real drums. Blue and yellow will be connected to the same cymbal, but the signal will be alternate by the hi hat pedal. Hitting the hi hat cymbal with its pedal pressed down will register a yellow note and blue if you release it. Putting a foot on the pedal without press down will altivate the mechanis, that will make sure to use the double bass and hit hat notes will be yellow (think of pull me under by dream theather (custom)).
But harmonix put open hi hats on yellow and on blue in the same song (think of living in amerca by the sounds) and in other songs they put only the open hit hats on blue and the close ones in yellow (check yes juliet, smell like teen spirit). no need to add another cymball to the drum, to the game. As you know, the game doesn’t distinguish the cymbals, you do it when you learn the song.
Also I don’t like the snares flams, they need to find other way to force you to use both hands without playing another pad (guitar hero accented notes are good for that).
And please, please, pleaseeeeeeeeee the 2x bass pedal for all songs how apply!!! (guitar hero won this feature, but only 2 toms and 2 cymbals are to poor for me.
I don’t think rb4 will be better, no with the information they provided, so I will wait before purchasing when they lunch rb4, after all, it is in development.
And wait not a version for xbox360 and play3?
March 5, 2015 at 7:51 pm #439875And wait not a version for xbox360 and play3?Because those systems are almost a decade old now? Because RB3 pushed those systems to the max as it was, so RB4 is better suited for the current, new systems that can let them use for 1080P assets for better graphics and better overall quality?
They may do a watered down version for last gen consoles after launch, but think of it like RB3 on Wii was compared to RB3 on Xbox 360. Underpowered machines get a lesser product.

I would die if RB4 had 60fps on the new consoles.
March 5, 2015 at 7:59 pm #439878I’m probably one of the few people that WOULDN’T get Rock Band 4 if they focused less on customization. One of my favorite parts of RB3 was the relatively in-depth character creator, and I’d love it if they gave us an even more awesome version of it.

From HMXChristine’s FAQ (http://forums.harmonixmusic.com/discussion/257486/were-ready-for-our-encore-rock-band-4-coming-2015):
Q: Will my old DLC work on the next gen console of the same type, i.e. PS3 -> PS4?A: Yes! Content purchased from the store or exported from a disc will transfer over to the new generation of consoles at no addition cost as we make that content available.
It sounds like they will take the same route as they did with Dance Central Spotlight: The songs will have to be released specifically for RB4, and at that point anybody who happens to have those same songs for the earlier games will get them for free.
I imagine the songs we’re getting this year will be some of the first songs out of the gate when RB4 launches. In fact I would expect a lot of songs to be ready out of the gate. But because of this apparent conversion process and the fact we’re talking about two different generations of consoles here, I do not expect new RB4-era DLC to be available for RB3 or any other earlier game. There is a good chance the new game does have new features that require a new recipe for creating downloadable content, even if those features aren’t tied to new or expanded instrument tracks. The argument to that of course is, since there won’t be any new or expanded instrument tracks, Harmonix should be perfectly capable of baking both RB3 and RB4 tracks at the same time from the same sources. I say to that, I doubt the bean-counters would allow that if it runs the risk of cutting into sales of the new game, or requires more overhead for the sake of offering DLC on even more platforms than RB3 did (360/One/PS3/P4 vs. 360/PS3/Wii).
One thing everyone, including me, has to keep in mind through all this: Harmonix is a lot smaller than they used to be. The company that put together RB3 was a Viacom subsidiary and had MTV money to develop and play with. The company putting together RB4 is an independent developer that lately has been scraping by with games on Steam after a high-profile release for the XBox Kinect failed to generate significant sales (100,000 copies worldwide across both Kinect platforms, according to vgchartz.com). Resources are at a minimum. Budgets are on a shoestring. We’re damn lucky we’re getting RB4 at all.
I too am sorely disappointed at the loss of keys, and I made that disappointment known on the official forums. “That ****ing sucks,” was my (self-censored) response. But I understand why it is, and I’m grateful RB4 is happening at least in some form, even if that form is shedding keys and pro guitar. I’ll temper my expectations accordingly.
March 5, 2015 at 8:13 pm #439883I have spent about 4 hours today on the HMX forums and reading articles so I had seen HMXHenry’s FAQ.
That addresses old to new, not whether RB4 will work in RB3. At worst, people will find a way to convert them to RB3 if they’re not released for RB3 as well as RB4.
Obviously in that case, I will not be creating a RB4-to-RB3 converter because that sounds like it would go squarely against C3’s practice so far.
However, a RB3-to-RB4 converter for the existing customs? I’m already planning the GUI. Just someone figure out customs
