Anybody know if you can still use an electronic drum kit with rb4?

+1, I am eager to find out about the future functionality of my ions.

I don’t believe it’s confirmed that all the xbox360/ps3 instruments will work on the current consoles. Harmonix is working on it. I just want my MPA to work on the current consoles or have Mad Catz make a new one just for pro drums with more features added to it.

I would be fine with them making another pro adapter if the old instruments don’t work. I could still find a way to use my IONS this way.

as someone that plays pro keys often and pro guitar every now and then, i gotta say i’m fine with them not being in 4. there are so many songs in 3 that i haven’t mastered yet, and that’s not even including customs. i can always go back to 3 if i want to play those things.

I don’t know if anybody’s brought it up yet, but I found a very interesting bit in this interview with some guys from Harmonix regarding Keys…

        Maybe in a future update?

Daniel: [Keys] may be in a future update. I think one of the things we’re committed to is engaging with fans, and if there’s a market for whatever-it-is, then that’s absolutely a conversation that we want to have. So yeah, it’s a question that we “getâ€.

That sounds promising. HMXHenry also commented in the official forums that they’re still gathering input and feedback, including people’s playing habits.

I don’t know that it will make a difference — it could very well not — but now might be a good time to hit the keys a little harder if you want to see them in RB4.

          No KEYS?!?!?!?

That just killed it for me…I have a PS4 but my RB1,2,3, Beatles, Green Day, track packs and DLC are XB360 only. I was going to eventually get a XBone too, but my daughter and I play Rock Band with me on guitar and her on keys and anything else just will not be the same…

I hope the game does get the cross instruments to work though.

K, what about PRO keys? and PRO guitar/bass?

I’m still staying with RS/PS. They are taking away RB3 core instruments, instruments I was using. I’m not using 5 button or drums -.-

K, what about PRO keys? and PRO guitar/bass?

I think the inclusion of keys in an update included Pro Keys as well but I’m not totally sure. I don’t think anyone here can argue that pro guitar/bass was the least played of all modes in the game. The entry point of that with just getting the specific guitars hurt them and also the UI of the pro guitar/bass just not being very user friendly also hurt. They have already made comments that they think Rocksmith is doing a great job and is what people should turn to if they actually want to really learn how to play the guitar so I doubt they would ever add in pro guitar/bass but pro keys seems like it would be easier to chart than pro guitar/bass but I have no charting experience so maybe someone with more knowledge could chime in on that.

One interesting thing I haven’t seen addressed is the fate of midi adapters. I think it’s highly unlikely that they are going to make new ones, since drums are the only surviving pro-instruments but I know at least three drummers, who I know are not going to touch a standard drum kit again after getting used to a mesh-head electronic kit.

I play on a Yamaha DTXIII so I’m in that camp (though I would still play the game with a plastic kit but with my pedal), but since they said they are working toward instruments compatibility, that has to go for the MIDI adapter too.

Why are there people still hurt over the loss of Pro Guitar? Just play Rocksmith. There’s no way HMX could come up with a better way to do it on their first attempt, alongside all the non-pro stuff they have to do. The decision to cut the pro modes was to

              1. save money they don’t have this time around

              2. save time, a lot of which would have been spent charting over a hundred pro parts for the disc and

              3. to focus on stuff that a decent amount of people play. Well over 90% of people who will buy RB4 don’t care about pro G/B, and I’m guessing many of those who did are happily playing Rocksmith.

I don’t see many people hurt about pro guitar, and for the reasons you mentioned it’s reasonable that they cut it. Pro keys on the other hand… .

Rocksmith is barely a multiplayer game with a max of two players at once. It certainly can’t compete with Bandfuse’s (4 players at once) or Rock Band (even more than that) and doesn’t give the same “band” experience. It doesn’t even have a proper vocal system. It doesn’t have instrument stems, you literally play on top of a stereo track. And obviously, Harmonix wouldn’t have to make a “first attempt” at a real guitar mode, they WERE the first to do it in a mainstream rhythm game. Powergig was a joke and doesn’t even count. The UI for RB3’s pro mode was fine with me and I still prefer it, although it would have been great if they were willing to allow a horizontal note highway (allowing more time to view the tab) if there were sufficiently few players.

I can understand they don’t have to resources to build/buy a pitch detection system or author new pro guitar/bass parts, but I would have greatly preferred that they just offered support for the existing pro guitar catalog and instruments. Then they could pick up with more pro content sometime in the future if they wanted. The path they chose makes it look like they’re just discarding the entire pro guitar feature and its content, never to think of it again.

Harmonix has some crowd-funding experience by now, if they made a Kickstarter to port RB3 (and it’s pro guitar catalog) to a new title with a pitch detection system I’d gladly spend a couple hundred on it. The number of pro players was small, but we had plenty of money to buy into the feature so it would take less of us to fund such a thing.

Yes, I wouldn’t mind helping to kickstart it. I probably know a couple more pro g/b players who wouldn’t mind help either.
