Hey guys, I’m new here but I’m a long time rock band player. Recently my guitar has bit the dust and it has been a struggle acquiring a new one that actually works. I’ve recently purchased two from Amazon, two different sellers and they both had the same issue; the green fret just didn’t work unless pressed REALLY hard. So I was wondering if you guys had any idea of how to acquire one that isn’t $180+ because I don’t have throw away cash like that. Any tips would be helpful, I really miss playing rock band on my 360.

Are they Les Pauls or Stratocasters? The Les Pauls have problems with the frets all the time. I believe it’s a bit of a design flaw where the neck isn’t making good contact with the base of the guitar. If it’s a Les Paul, I would suggest this video:

You just need to do a little soldering to make sure the pins are properly connected to the base.

I’ve had really good luck purchasing 4 to 5 RB3 guitars off of eBay.

Think last time I got 2 guitars for around $60.00 for the pair, both worked like a charm.

      Good luck !

Or I see folks dumping them on Craig’s list as well. I have been lucky to fix a few also following articles online.

        Bought 2 of these: http://www.bytearts.com/strumfixplus.htm– I like em…

They were both rb2 stratos, I just don’t get how both had fret issues and it makes me worried to buy some from eBay due to bad luck. Is there no other place other than the obvious eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist? Thanks for the help so far though, good to know there is still a community for this game!

I’ve been going to my local goodwill and usually get guitars for $4.00. At that price i got a couple for spare parts. For a majority of my repair issues docsrockmods.com has been able to cover my problems and then some.Good luck.

^Yes Goodwill is an absolutely fantastic source for this stuff. Buy it and it’s not perfect? Well, you’re only out $4.

eBay is not bad either. If the guitar is defective, you can normally get a refund assuming the seller made no mention of the defect.

I have been on a guitar buying spree ever since I found out about customs almost a year ago as I never wanted to be without a guitar !!

As other have mentioned, local used/pawn shops and classified ads are the best place to get guitars nowadays for a decent price.

I have gotten many for $2-$5 bucks, some $10-$15 that seem like they have never been used.

And never hesitate to take apart a guitar and at least give it a good cleaning. Many times sticky buttons or strummers that didn’t work before, work perfectly after a cleaning. And you may just see something simple as a loose wire that could fix something else.

I think I am up to about about 30 guitars between ps3, xbox, and wii and a few that are BNIB that I know have never been used.

My issue is almost always the green fret, and the one guitar I tried to take apart I couldn’t get to the green fret at all because the two neck boards were glued together, are they all like that? I have one here at my house I was gonna send back but if cleaning them really fixes them should I try it?

I don’t think any guitar necks should be glued together, all the ones I have seen have been held together by screws.

maybe this one was taken apart already and then glued back together for whatever reason

I don’t know if you have found a solution (im too lazy to read the posts above XD) but you should use local selling sites such as craigslist or letgo. I have seen a lot of good deals roll by such as 2 of the controller you are looking for for only $10! (You are probably thinking i live in a popular state, I dont…) I hope this will help find some instruments for you and others

I had an issue with an old RB2 Strat, opened the neck and cleaned the buttons; still wouldn’t work properly due to the hours of usage it got… I needed to press harder than usual to get them to register progressively until I was tired of it.

I don’t know how your model is made but mine has a hole on top of the magnet where it makes the connection for on/off opf each button. I just cutted some paper made a cylinder with it and put it in the hole so that I need less pressure to hit the button.

Depending on the problem there’s always a redneck solution; just need to be creative.

I suggest just cutting through the glue (taking care of not cutting any wires/connections of course)… usually it’s the screws that holds everything in place anyways; or if you really need the glue to put it back together well reglue…

Also; maybe someone knows exactly how your model works at this forums: http://docsrockbandmods.net/
