Now that a lot of Rockband 3 songs have been removed, are we allowed to link to those files?
May 4, 2014 at 9:57 pm #419483Anonymous
I’ve asked this question before and got the answer “No” because “We do not wish to attract angry attention from Harmonix.”
May 4, 2014 at 11:02 pm #419487But they make no money on the song no more?
May 4, 2014 at 11:32 pm #419491But they make no money on the song no more?Just because they can’t sell something anymore doesn’t mean you’re entitled to it.
May 5, 2014 at 12:17 am #419493We did discuss this again recently and — as of this writing — links to songs that are no longer available for purchase in any region can be provided, though we will not be adding these songs to the database, we will not be maintaining any sort of ‘sticky’ thread, and there is no need for a thread explicitly for that purpose.
This is still not a DLC warez site. If someone is looking for a specific song to RB3 it up, for example, I would consider that a suitable argument for providing a link to them, though it most cases it may just be easier to send people private messages with links for specific content they need.
As an aside, this specific topic is discussed (albeit not at length) in our new rules.
Also, Nyx is right, and that’s a good rule to keep in mind going forward.
May 5, 2014 at 12:49 am #419494so i would not be allowed to sticky up a list then ?
May 5, 2014 at 1:47 am #419497so i would not be allowed to sticky up a list then ?No, you would not.
Sorry, I thought that was pretty straight-forward in my post.
May 5, 2014 at 7:27 am #4195314) Do not post links to CONs/etc. of official Rock Band 3 content that can still be purchased. The Rock Band franchise might be dead, but Harmonix deserves your money. Support the company that made the game you love, and buy official DLC instead of pirating it. You get one warning on this, and then you will be banned.
Right there in the rules am i right?
May 5, 2014 at 11:05 am #419534Right there in the rules am i right?
The problem is: next month more stuff will go extinct. Now, what stops anybody browsing this forum from NOT buying it while it’s still for sale and waiting the day after it’s off the store to download it here?
The rule is clear: give money to Harmonix, they deserve it. If a link floats around it’s one thing, if we have a list of all songs which license expired we’re just gonna enable people to wait for us to post the link and not buy the song while it’s still available.
May 5, 2014 at 11:38 am #419535Right there in the rules am i right?Yep. Which is exactly in line with what I said. I’m pretty sure I didn’t fucking stutter.
Links are allowed. We’ve expanded the detail of the rule with the criteria I spelled out in my reply, which apparently wasn’t clear enough.
So let me spell it out, again:
AS IT STANDS TODAY
- Links are allowed.
- This is still not a warez site.
- Threads are not allowed.
- We will not make/maintain a sticky thread.
- We will not add these songs to the database.
- I recommend providing links to people that need specific songs via PM, and consider why they need them. If they were lazy and didn’t purchase it or were waiting for it to be pulled to get it ‘for free’, for example, I personally wouldn’t provide them. (Edit: As farottone notes.)
Again:
I’m pretty sure I didn’t fucking stutter.

Very true, didn’t really think of it like that.
May 5, 2014 at 12:58 pm #419541Honestly, I might just be a bit paranoid, but I don’t think that’s all that great of an idea to have them available here.. might just be a better idea to keep that kind of stuff at 36oiso. We all kind of originated there, and most at least know of it’s existence. It might be better to point someone in the right direction, then have it freely available here.
Alas, You’re the mods, and I’m but a paranoid small folk.
Good day gentlemen

We’re paranoid too but we have a bit more knowledge about what can fly with HMX and what can’t and we have always promoted original paid content. If genuinely some guy, today, wakes up and realizes he can’t get to song X anymore, not a lot of harm is done if he can get to it. But, as I said, making it a policy to distribute original content untouched is a very bad idea and it would not be right: this is our dogma since day 1. We haven’t even begun to explore the possibility of releasing mulitrack proper keys upgraded songs (Boston, Rush’s Moving Pictures, etc.). It’s all material we can technically release in full multitrack form with added harmonies and pro keys, all with their own stem but because it’s all still available as DLC to buy, even though not in the same form as ours, we’re not touching it yet.
So, yeah, we’re on the cautious side of things, just not ultraparanoid because we have a slightly better grasp on what we can do, as compared to users I mean.

Moving Pictures with Keys!?!?
Don’t tease me like that!

On that topic, since Don’t Stop Believing is leaving or has left….I don’t remember right now what the cut off date was for it….will we be getting a version with Keys and harmonies at some point? I’ve always wanted a proper version of the song with a keys part.
