So, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who’s gonna buy a next-gen console for RB4. I know it might be worth waiting until we know more about RB4 before making a choice, but I thought it might be useful to start a discussion here for those with some first-hand experience. I’d love some input from those of you with a PS4 or Xbox One. What do you like about your console? What don’t you like? Are there console exclusive games you bought yours for?
I’ve got both previous-gen consoles, though I’ve loved having Rock Band on my Xbox360. That might bias me toward the Xbox One, but on the other hand, exclusives like Journey were worth buying a PS3 for.
Thoughts?
March 10, 2015 at 3:08 pm #440327I think the best console for you is the one from the same family you use for RB3, since presumably you have DLC and hardware to go along with it that you should be able to use.
Also, based on Harmonix’s experience, I’m fairly sure RB4 is going to be developed for Xbox One and any console after that is a port, much like with RB3.
Each console has exclusives and that’s why the best solution is to own them all if you can.
I bought the Wii U for Mario Kart 8. I bought the Xbox One for Forza Horizon 2. I bought the PS4 for The Last of Us Remastered.
I’m ready for RB4
EDIT: I don’t have many Pros and Cons to discuss since’ I’ve owned both consoles for only a little bit of time, but one more aspect to consider, which I guess would fall as a Pro for the Xbox One and a con for the PS4, is that Xbox One is supposed to allow up to 8 players at once?, whereas the PS4 is only four. So while they’re paring down the instruments, if they do bring over stage kit support, or maybe individual harmony control, this might come into play?

Though in all likelihood I’ll keep using RB3 and my 360 for my bar nights, since it’ll have the largest library due to customs, and just play RB4 for fun at home. It’d be nice to have my DLC transfer over, but not super important for me personally since my mega-library will always be on 360 (and I can always play those songs on that console if I feel like playing them). I guess there are strong arguments for staying with the same family, but… No Man’s Sky and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture are PS4 exclusives, and No Man’s Sky looks suuuuuuper cool.
March 10, 2015 at 3:44 pm #440329As someone who has all 3 current gen consoles I’ll give my input.
My 360 was most played last generation out of all 3 (Wii,360,PS3) consoles. I had Rock Band on that console but it also had all my friends on it so obviously I played that the most.
I will be getting RB4 for XB1 (DLC and possible backwards compatible instruments)
My Xbox One right now is played the most by me because again I have most friends on it and I’m currently playing a lot of the Master Chief Collection (great game, now that its finally fixed) and GTA V (current gen version is great, and heists came out today which I still need to try out). I prefer the UI on Xbox One over the PS4 for many reasons. It’s a lot easier to get around and the party chat system is a lot better IMO. You can snap things which is cool as well but sometimes a little annoying. You can watch your TV through the Xbox which is cool but personally I don’t use it. I also prefer the Xbox One controller over the PS4 Dualshock 4 because I’ve really always preferred the Xbox controllers and the analog sticks I find are a lot better on XB1. I had to get replacement analog sticks on PS4 recently because the rubber wears off after a while depending on how hard you hit the sticks or how long you use them for.
As for my PS4, I’ve got LittleBigPlanet 3, Knack, Killzone, and my brother plays Madden 15 and I also have PS+ with the free games each month. The Dualshock 4 is a huge improvement over the Dualshock 3 which is nice (with the exception of the poor analog sticks like I mentioned earlier). I don’t have a lot of friends on PS4 like I do on XB1 and I think the UI could improve as well. Right now I’m not playing my PS4 as much cause really I’m just waiting for better games (Uncharted 4, etc) but the system I find is just “okay”. I certainly don’t think its as good as all the fanboys make it out to be and how its a lot better than the XB1 because in reality, the XB1 can do a lot more in terms of entertainment and the UI is more snappy. The good thing about the PS4 though, I know is that there will be a ton of great exclusive titles in the coming months/years which I do not want to miss out on. This is where I think the PS4 will shine. XB1 doesn’t have as many powerful exclusives like the PS4 does.
TL;DR:
XB1:
Pros:
– Great UI and constantly improving to make it better
– Xbox Live is more stable than PSN (IMO)
– Friends are here
– Great controller
– Voice commands (if you’re into that)
– Halo (again if you’re into that)
Cons:
– Proprietary headset port (unable to use your own headphones out of the box)
– Controller needs batteries and they aren’t rechargeable without a recharge kit (c’mon its 2015!)
– Power brick is annoying
PS4:
Pros:
– BETTER EXCLUSIVES! LIKE SERIOUSLY.
– Better controller compared to PS3
– Party chat (finally!)
– PS+ is a lot better than Games with Gold IMO
– No power brick
– Rechargeable batteries
Cons:
– PSN seems to be down or down for maintenance quite a bit
– Analog sticks are low quality
– UI could use some improvement
– Is fine for games but for entertainment purposes the Xbox One is a lot better.
Hope this helps!
March 10, 2015 at 4:11 pm #440331By themselves, I’d get a PS4. But I was on the 360 for the “Rock Band” series so I’ll be getting an XBone when the time comes.
March 11, 2015 at 1:21 pm #440382I will be using my Xbox One.
Reason 1: I have one.
Reason 2: I used a 360 for RB3, so my DLC will carry over.
March 11, 2015 at 2:02 pm #440388I had no interest in either console in the short term until RB was announced. PC space is going to be so good to me in the next view years, and the WiiU has all the things I like game-wise.
So I’ll get an XB1 for RB to port my DLC over, and wait and see if I ever buy anything else.
March 11, 2015 at 2:33 pm #440389Xbox One.
It’s hardware is slightly inferior but it has a better UI, Halo exclusivity, and all my DLC for RB attached to it.
Anyone who recommends PS4 over X1 purely based on hardware must not know what a PC is.
Xbox One release almost drove me to buy a PS4 because of all the crap they were spewing out like 24/7 internet to play anything at all, no trading discs… etc… but they reversed all that.
Now let’s hope they release Rock Band for PC sometime in the future…. Rock Band Pi ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
March 11, 2015 at 5:15 pm #440409I was on the fence about which current gen console to get, but RB4 instrument/DLC compatibility made the decision for me because I have been playing the Rock Band franchise on Xbox 360. Now it’s just a matter of when I buy the console. A Rock Band game without pro guitar/keys isn’t enough incentive for me so it will probably take until they release a must-have game like Kingdom Hearts 3.
Also, a con for PS4 is having to put up with Sony and its sloppy handling of music games.

I switched from Singstar to Ultrastar when, after my PS3 YLODed, I was told I needed to contact tech support to redownload my songs. So long, suckers.

How can you admit in an open forum like this that you’ve cheated on RB3 with another music game?! How dare you?

Rock Band has like 2 Italian songs and room 2 of my parties is filled with people asking for Italian songs to sing. Sad but true.
March 11, 2015 at 6:18 pm #440416Soooo why haven’t you authored a thousand italian songs?
“When the moon hits your eye-a like a big-a pizza pie – that’s amore!”
Also, I know the feeling – my “normal” friends want Spanish songs and Juanes and Mana aren’t really enough
March 11, 2015 at 9:06 pm #440425Wii U
Though in all seriousness from what I have seen the PS4 seems better due to games and such for it of the two. I will just personally get one for Silent Hills if it gets favorable reviews instead of for RB4 myself. Then again, DLC transfers are important too
March 12, 2015 at 6:30 pm #440480Xbone, simply because I got RB3 on 360 and all my DLC is there
