I followed the instructions on the charting vocal video by nyxyxylyth, and on my reaper following the copy and paste and hyphenating instructions, I can’t get the lyrics to paste. The note tubs are all authored, I copy my hyphenated and spaced lyrics from note pad, and push shift L, and I get a beep and nothing happens. I installed the RBN plugins, because I have the preview window for bass/guitar/drums. Is there only 1 plug in? I’m also using the custom RB template I downloaded from the authoring tools thread here. Also the event note in the text fields are red instead of green, does that make a difference?

Maybe you have a different shortcut. In the *MIDI window*, click on Actions > Show actions list and filter for “lyrics”. Also, make sure you have selected all notes and you actually are in the MIDI windows when launch the shortcut.

I tried filtering for lyrics and there is nothing that comes up. there is something else listed under Shift L, but is there a menu or another method I can do to put it in the events with lyrics the way that the shortcut does? So I don’t have to do them manually.

That’s strange, here’s what it normally looks like,

Are you running the latest version of reaper?

If you can’t find it by searching for it in the action list, then that action isn’t available to you in your version of reaper, so you would have to do it by hand.

Try updating if you’re not using the latest version.

Hmm, having the same issue when I’m trying to do vocals by ear, gave up on it until I found this… Dunno what the heck the problem is, cause I downloaded the newest version of Reaper no more than a week ago, figuring I’d try my hand at charting.

I personally looked it up too, and I can’t get the action to come up. So, I guess this means that it has to be done by hand?

Compare that screenshot to your REAPER again. Check the upper left hand corner, where it says “Section: MIDI Editor”. If it says “Main”, you won’t find the lyrics action. This section isn’t reached from the Actions menu at the top of REAPER itself, but rather the Actions menu tied to the piano roll / MIDI editor. If you undock the MIDI editor, it’s at the top of that window, but otherwise you can right-click the appropriate tab at the bottom of the screen and pick Actions from there.

Nope, not in there still, unfortunately. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled reaper and the tools to see if it made a difference, but for some reason it doesn’t work properly still. I got it to work on my laptop though, so I’ll just do the vox charting on there I guess.

Normally, I put lyric events in as I do the notes… Like, I create one at the first note then set the word and such… Then continue copying and paste that lyric event, changing the word if needed, as I continue adding notes and sometimes I don’t need to bother with the lyric events cause they will get copied with the notes as well. (Sometime, I’ll copy a group of notes if that phrase is being sung again later on and that group fits perfectly since it is being sung in the same way, meaning the lyric events will also be the same)…

So… That what I do and it works. Have no issues at all with it and nobody else complained about my lyrics either… Then again, I don’t know if anybody had bother that much with my customs… Though I do know that my customs been downloaded a few times so far…

It’s also possible to map keys to “select next note” and “create a lyric for this note”, so you can do all of your lyrics with tab (for example) and another hotkey.
