In an ironic moment the guy in the Butterfly video wearing the D.A.R.E. shirt died from an OD and the other singer was on celebrity rehab.

      Hey there Rockers,
We hope you had a great weekend. We are back with another edition of Monday Hints for Saturday’s release. We have an awesome week, so I’ll get right to the clues.
The first 3 selections this week all come from one of my very favorite film soundtracks. They will add to several other available songs from this soundtrack.

      Hint for song #1
Our first track this week, is a version of a folk song that was first published in 1911. The version we are doing is from a b-side to this bands most popular single. The band has nothing to do with Funk Meister Freud and Housequake’s utilities though.

      Hint for song #2
Our second track is from one of the 50’s coolest R&B groups. The song was their first single. The version of the song we are doing is a 1970 re-record of their top ten R&B hit. Oddly, this song only appeared in part in theaters, but got the full treatment for DVD and Blu-ray release. Not only was it in this film, but also in the Hangover film series.

      Hint for song #3
The third track from this awesome soundtrack was a top 5 track in the Billboard Hot 100. The song is a cover of a song done by the Shirelles and the Beatles and written by Burt Bacharach. Its awesome female vocals make this track incredible.

      Hint for song # 4
The fourth track this week is a cover of a 50’s rockabilly song, redone by a country rock band. It reached as high as # 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single came from that country rock band’s debut album. This band started in my home state, cool!

      Hint for song #5
Our next song was super popularr. This rap track won a Grammy, was played live for Super Bowl halftime show, hit #1 on many Billboard chart including Hot 100 and was parodied by Weird Al. In other words, it couldn’t have been more successful.

      Hint for song #6
And for this week’s final track, this band, except for a ten-year hiatus, has been around and recording since their inception to this very day. Outside of their home country, they added a prefix to their name, to not be confused with another band on the other side of the Atlantic. This title track comes from their second album, coming out steaming with a sharp, space rock-influenced sound.

We had 3 “Big Brains” this week. Great job!

ROFLMAO! That is hilarious, Nunchuck.

Funny thing is, I work for a Utility Company (not PG&E).

You peeps are doing great with the guesses. I gotta get in there and see if I can make a guess…

          #6 (London) Suede??

The Verve changed because of Verve Records, not a band… but Suede doesn’t have a title track on Dog Man Star (though I guess both bands are spacey. )

          Or something completely different.

I’ve been thinking about both of these bands for this. The Verve arguably is not recording to this very day. “A Northern Soul” is also an odd choice since their biggest hits (with the exception of “Bittersweet symphony”) has not been done yet. It would be very cool though!

Suede would fit, they had a ten year recording hiatus and added London to their name in the US. However, as you say, Dog Man Star does not have a title track…

On a side note, it’s a pity that both of these bands don’t have more entries in Rock band. I think some of the songs would do very well…

On the Verve / Suede thing. I don’t think it’s The Verve because, as was pointed out above, they’re not still recording today. And I wouldn’t describe Suede as spacy!

But! If anyone were to ever chart anything from A Storm In Heaven or A Northern Soul from Verve / The Verve or anything from Suede or Dog Man Star by Suede you would have a friend for life in me.

                Release Notes

My choices this week were 3 songs from the Death Proof Soundtrack. Add them to Hold Tight and Chick Habit (which we did) + Jeepster Official DLC and you have a huge chunk of the soundtrack right there. It is my pleasure to get these treasures out there for all of us to play.

Pacific Gas & Electric – Staggolee is a cool 70’s sounding blues-rock song. It tells the story of one bad MF. It is a great song.

The Coasters – Down in Mexico is something I have wanted for a long time, for certain. I almost picked it many times. It is a fun song featured in a very memorable scene in Death Proof, unless you only saw the Grindhouse version. If you did, you so missed out. If you haven’t seen it, I urge to do so soon.

Smith – Baby, It’s You has such awesome vocals. It adds another strong female vocal track, in addition to being a fun song for the whole band.

Almost everyone has heard Hot Rod Lincoln, today we can play it. We know you’ll love it. It is one of those great songs that may have never made it to RB. Also Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen are from my home state and I’m kind of a sucker for that rock-a-billy sound.

Nelly – Hot in Herre is a super popular and fun track. We are glad to add to the hip-hop songs of RB whenever we can. Nelly brings us a fun classic. Enjoy it, is it me or is it getting Hot in the Funhouse?

We dedicate the final track this week to all our Canadian friends. You rock!! Fist – Hot Spikes is a driving fun rock song. It has a distinctly Canadian sound. Here’s to you, eh!

This week we had 3 “Big Brains”. You peeps always make hints so fun. Thank you!!

Thank you all for playing. We will be back with more fun and games soon.

                Have a great weekend!!
