These songs are all charted for “Singalong” purposes: vocals-only, sometimes with shortened arrangements (and eliminated fadeouts!) thanks to meticulous audio edits. Think of it like karaoke night with the single/radio versions of these tracks. Screw your long-ass noodly guitar solos: this allows us to get through more songs in our limited gaming time these days!

As such, I’d started charting a lot of vox-only customs. Upon asking around here if anyone would be interested, it received a resounding: “YES!”
All said, if you want to take my vocals to incorporate into a full band custom, that would be awesome, too! Just drop me a line to collaborate.
*** Also note that all of my singalong tracks have a release date 100 years in the future for easy sorting.

Deep cut from the bestest BÖC album, “Secret Treaties”. Because if I didn’t chart this myself, who ever would?!
MFX 04 – Ad Hoc Troubador 3-pack
Everyone has been asking for this one!!!
Okay, so I’m lying: NOBODY HAS BEEN ASKING FOR THIS ONE.
Straight outta the early 90’s Michigan college scene, Ad Hoc Troubador was a synth-driven duo with a New Romantic mindset. Or is it post-New Wave? Or maybe they were perky-goth… Or maybe I’m safe to label them as “Glam” because none of you know them from any other band and you’re not gonna call me on it!
Typical singalong rules are in play: Audio edits to cut down instrumental sections and for hard starts and ends. Release date is 100 years in the future for easy filtering.

MFX 03 – Arguably Industrial 3-pack
Is it industrial? Well, if you’re not banging on shopping carts and oil drums like Einstürzende Neubauten, then it’s always arguable!
These bands combine electronics and guitars to get a gritty and/or aggressive sound. That’s good enough in my book for the broadest definition. The trouble is, HMX decided to slot Industrial as a subgenre to Metal! You’ll have to forgive that minor setback.
Hednoize- “Loaded Gun”
Daniel Lenz formed this project (with Brent Daniels) after techno group Psykosonik broke up: I guess there weren’t enough Mortal Kombat movie soundtracks to keep them going!
Little bit of trivia here: this song was included in the original La Femme Nikita TV series and appeared on the soundtrack album. In fact, the death of TVT Records made it such that DVD licensing of the song was eventually deemed unresolvable, and it was removed from the episode “Off Profile” after the first manufacturing run.

Machines of Loving Grace – “Suicide King”
These guys started more on the electronic side of the spectrum with their gritty brand of techno. Their second album was much more ambitious in terms of arrangements, but the third album “Gilt” brought a really heavy guitar sound, courtesy of Tool producer Sylvia Massy.
Audio edits: Shorter intro, synced timing of middle break, and I think a repeat or two got dropped along the way.

Orgy – “Stitches”
From their debut and best of three* albums, “Candyass”, this is the OTHER single that’s not “Blue Monday”.
(* After founder/vocalist Jay Gordon managed to boot out the other members to form Julien-K, he’s tried to keep the act hobbling along, but it just ain’t the same.)
Oh, and Orgy actually described themselves as ‘Death Pop’ at one point. Kinda fits.
Audio edits: Ummm… none? Only issue is that I vaguely remember time-aligning it to a continuous tempo for beatmatching at one point, which may have left artifacting.

SINGLE: The Fixx – “One Thing Leads to Another”
So we’ve already released The Fixx’s “Saved by Zero”, might as well provide their biggest hit from the same album, right?
UPDATE: @Bansheeflyer has now filled out this custom to Full Band! Such a great song (and another successful collab!), and now available to all players. As such, I’m taking down links to the old singalong, and here’s a link to the release thread.
Audio edits: @Bansheeflyer spliced in a remix ending to eliminate the album version’s fade-out, and I shortened the last repeat section just a little to get it down to multiples of 4.

SINGLE: David Bowie – “Absolute Beginners”
Oh, Bowie, how we miss you already…
This was essentially the “title track” from the 1986 rock musical film, featuring the man himself among the cast. Loverly tune.
Audio edits: Shortened the intro slightly, eliminated the single’s fade-out by splicing in the ending of the full-length version.

MFX 02 – Japan “Tin Drum” 3-pack
JAPAN! No, not the country, silly…
Duran’s Nick Rhodes cited this David Sylvian fronted band as an influence, and I suppose people of a certain age from the UK may remember these guys… but nobody else! By the time Japan’s final album “Tin Drum” was released, they’d shed their New Romantic origins and evolved into something positively transcendent. Every player had a unique style, which later led to Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, and Mick Karn (RIP) popping up as session players and members of groundbreaking progressive projects later in their career.
Here are three of the four released singles from the album.
Japan – “The Art of Parties”
Out of any song on the album, this one seemed to be the obvious stab at a dancefloor hit. But man… that original outro goes on forever!
Audio edits: Cut down the bazillion repeats at the end, guitar solo comes sooner

Japan – “Ghosts”
Despite being an atmospheric painting with no drums, this was Japan’s highest charting single, coming in at #5 on the UK charts. It was even covered by Deftones and Gotye.
Audio edits: New shorter intro, interior synth wandering clipped for length, some atmospheric effects synced for tempo

MFX 01 – New Wave 3-pack
I have a LOT of obscure customs in my personal backlog, so I figured I’d release the most recognizable bands first. Even then, these tracks aren’t even the obvious signature singles from said bands! Despite that, they made for a good New Wave theme pack.
Devo – “Big Mess”
One of my favorite Devo tracks… if not THE favorite: “Blockhead” occasionally fights for that spot. Since the vocals are double-tracked, I copied it to two harmony parts, though really the only note divergences are the occasional octaves in the chorus.

The Fixx – “Saved by Zero”
For the missus. It may not be “One Thing Leads to Another”, but this one got plenty of radio play in my region and even had a music video that got decent rotation.
Audio edits: I eliminated the end fadeout with a definitive ending.
UPDATE: I’ve pulled my vox-only version, as @anglebracket was in the process of releasing her full band version a few days later than mine! As fate would have it, she made a call for vocals and harmony help on it, which made my work a perfect fit. She even included my “not a fadeout” audio edit!

Wang Chung – “To Live and Die in L.A.”
No, it’s not “Everybody Have Fun Tonight”. No, it’s not even “Dance Hall Days”. It’s a pretty obscure movie soundtrack song that the missus is crazy about, but I must admit that I took a shine to it while charting it.
Autogen venue track is a bit messed up on this one, since I experimented with charting to alternating phrases on harmonies: I’ll have to eventually go in and swap camera cues to the guitarist when s/he’s singing.
Audio edits: Newly constructed non-fade ending, shortened the intro.

Nice selection of WC and The Fixx – I listened the hell out of Reach the Beach in my teens and I still have “Saved by Zero” and “To Live and Die in LA.” on my phone.
Good to hear when others like the selections! I guess that’s reason enough to finally release these songs, even in a vox-only state originally intended solely for my own use.
Just an update to point out that we’ve folded in my vocals-only custom of The Fixx’s “Saved by Zero” into the full band custom by @anglebracket, which she released a few days after mine. The collaboration was obviously meant to be!
