Great release theme idea, guys!

“Easy” wasn’t originally on the Angel Dust album, so that rankles me as a purist, but it’s classic FNM so I’ll take it! Thanks!

Besides, it’s “easy” enough to crack open the con and change the metadata ourselves. Gotta have that classic cover art from the single!

… I can’t picture this song being rated “Family Friendly” with that… erm, suggestive cover.

Personally, album release>single release when applicable, unless the album release is separated by more than 5 years. Obviously, this one’s a bit more tricky, but I’ll stick with the album release version.

Question about the songs this week that had previously been released (Easy, Mad World, Have You Ever Seen The Rain and Common People), have these been upgraded in any way from those original releases?

I’m gonna clarify what’s in this release. 3 songs are brand new. 3 were released a long time ago and had serious faults. Mad World is a vocals and piano song that had bad vocals and no pro keys. Easy had no pro keys, rough guitar and wrong tempo map (it was double the correct tempo). Have You Ever Seen the Rain was in good shape but still missing pro keys, the most prominent part of the song. That’s why the redone versions of these songs are all in a single pack, while Nyx’s songs, which were perfect to begin with, are FtV. If you have those 3 songs and like them, do redownload them!

Thanks for the clarification! In the future, any songs in the main release that you might have previously release are probably reworked, while vault songs are older releases getting the spotlight on them, correct?

Actually that’s a matter of internal discussion. FtV songs are songs we released before the Rapture. Now, C3 standards are higher than some of us had before we got together. So, Nyx’s songs are as good as they can be, while mine aren’t, in example. To be releases through C3, any song has got to meet those requirements, so basically most of the FtV songs have been and will be reworked. In example, I added pro keys to Paradise City, and I fix all my vocals songs one more time, and those GnR songs were FtV.

In theory, then, any previously released song is FtV, only unreleased songs should be in weekly release batch. However, this week we had a pack about covers AND we had an old pack of covers wtih songs that would have been heavily retooled. So, instead of having a Great Covers 01 pack FtV and one Great Covers 02 as weekly release, we built them together. Since we shoot for at least 3 new songs, having a 6-pack with 3 previously released, but fundamentally different, songs was deemed kosher. We will probably do that again for one song in the future.

Great to know you guys are really dedicating the high standards!

I love theme weeks. I really really love theme weeks. Probably my favorite early harmonix thing was theme packs. Keep doing this, please.

So, here’s my feedback on the songs I downloaded. A lot of it is probably just me being nitpicky (hell, I playtested for the network, nitpicking is second nature), but other stuff are is definitely eyebrow raising.

                        Wuthering Heights

-Vocals have a good deal of capitalization errors.

-Closing solo has HO/PO’d notes that follow the HO/PO’d note of the same color (a HO/PO’d blue after a HO/PO’d blue, if you will). Thing with the force HO/PO on note is that it makes every note under it (every note) HO/PO’d, even those two notes of the same color that are right next to each other. So seriously, watch out for those.

-According to a video I saw on the net, the keyboardist avatar only plays in the intro and nowhere else. Sorta like “Hey, we’re playing ‘Wuthring Heights,’ we’re awwww screw it, we’re just Ashlee Simpsoning you.”

                        Easy

-In the spoken word intro, “baby” and “ladies” are listed as single syllable words.

-The vocalist is in idle the entire time.

-Metal. …Metal? …Metal. This is about as metal as “(Funky) Sex Farm” and “Cups and Cakes.” And if you’re gonna use those as examples as to not needing to be metal to be charted as metal, that statement only holds water if the band’s been called metal before, and Faith No More’s release history has been rock, rock, alternative, and rock.

Have You Ever Seen the Rain?

-First verse has two “its” that should be “it’s”.

-Drummer is playing an entire disco beat with his right hand. This is really just sad, since the drums are the easiest instrument to animate accurately. For crying out loud, the drummer hits the ride on a blue that should be an open hat.

So, that’s everything I could spot right away. Glad to see you broke the habit of leaving a drum sing-along note out of the Venue MIDI for places where there should really only be one singer, because as someone who got start in the network as an authoring group’s venue guy, that bothered the crap outta me. But again, a lot of these pretty simple mistakes lead me to believe these are largely first drafts. And first drafts are almost never gonna be gold. Something you should do is see the song in game for yourself before deciding whether it’s good enough to throw out. Often times, you’re your best judge, and seeing the song in action can be your best way of judging it.

                        …seriously, metal?

Weird about capitalization, I remember correcting all of those but my Reaper project still shows the problem. I don’t know what happened. I can only find one same note HOPO, the very last note of the song. Is that what you were referring to? Pro Keys are missing the play event, yes. It was mentioned to me but somehow I forgot to add that in, I see now.

                          Easy

-In the spoken word intro, “baby” and “ladies” are listed as single syllable words.

-The vocalist is in idle the entire time.

I’m not even gonna comment on the genre, frankly. Considering that Wikipedia has the reissue album the song comes from marked as alternative metal, that’s a level of nitpicking I can do without.

Sorry about the idle event, I must have missed something in reviewing. I thought for spoken words, if there’s really no space between the syllables, the complete word works better in terms of scoring, but maybe I’ve always got that wrong.

                            stuff…

you know, there’s a way and a place to say things, and you seem to have misplaced them. we don’t pay you and you don’t pay us. feedback is certainly appreciated, but next time take out the stick from your ass.

i’m the one who does farottone’s animations, so whatever went wrong with this release is on me. I don’t know when the hell I did the bonnie tyler song because for a LONG time now all the songs i’ve done have alternating hands….actually, I see when it was. May 10 of 2012, when I was still very green at this.

you are right though, this should have been caught in playtesting. but try to read back to yourself your comments before putting them online next time.
