When using the “Batch replace song IDs” function in C3 Magma v3.3.2, it appears the new songs.dta is always saved in Latin-1 encoding. This breaks things if the title/artist/whatever have non-ASCII characters and the original songs.dta was in UTF-8 encoding.
Specifically I tested on this song: http://customscreators.com/index.php?/page/index.html/_/sucks-to-be-you-r791
December 12, 2016 at 5:19 am #478709I’ve been asked countless times to update Magma. There is now a significant enough bug that requires my attention.
Here is my current list of needed fixes and additions after spending over an hour combing through all the forum posts for the last year relating to Magma.

http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/13861-magma-error-noteontime-note-off/I plan to fix or integrate most or all of the above. But no promises.
Am I missing anything else?
December 12, 2016 at 6:13 am #478711Oh yeah, if you can fix that bug where the “append _rb3con to name” option doesn’t work if it’s set before the file is saved. I always have to double-check myself before building otherwise I’ll have build junk from both file names.
And what’s the deal with the first build attempt usually not working? It will say something about the blank audio not being found, and it takes focusing into the text box or typing something to get the blank audio path to pass even though nothing has changed.
December 12, 2016 at 9:21 am #478717I used the override midi option to build a song with two drum tracks, one for double bass, but neither song was built correctly. From what I remember, MagmaC3 didn’t do the compiling the song twice, once with each drum part.
Often, I have to set silent audio to at least one track twice. Somehow MagmaC3 doesn’t remember it.
Finally, I’ve had trouble with using silent tracks by default. MagmaC3 can’t find the tracks so I have to set them all manually. I’m not using long paths and there are so spaces in the path.
December 12, 2016 at 1:35 pm #478721Further to the ‘append _rb3con to name’ feature. I’d like to see the option to append _WiP instead. Perhaps saved to the project and not globally.
December 12, 2016 at 5:51 pm #478725point out EOF vs. REAPER problem – MIDI Validation failed: (AllNotesAreOff())
I forget, is this about detecting “note on” events with a velocity of 0 as “note off” events or about running status encoding?
December 12, 2016 at 9:05 pm #478730Actually, I’m not sure yet. I literally just compiled those error messages and threads and put them in a list. I have yet to look at what’s going on. But off the top of my head I think my intention was just to point out it’s not something I can fix at that stage and that it’s likely caused by using EOF or some other software that uses running status. MagmaCompiler doesn’t like them and I can’t edit MagmaCompiler.
December 12, 2016 at 10:07 pm #478737Official RB MIDIs used both encoding mechanisms though, which is why it surprises me that Harmonix’s own Magma tool doesn’t support one/both. If you want me to disable one/both of them for EOF’s RBN MIDI, let me know and I can work on that.
December 14, 2016 at 4:36 am #478796When I convert to Wii using a song with stems it freezes upon creating the .rar file.
December 14, 2016 at 1:02 pm #478820Has anyone had Magma not open at all? I’ve been having this for months.
December 14, 2016 at 2:43 pm #478825That’s not a problem with Magma, that’s a problem on your end. Most likely an overzealous AV software.
December 14, 2016 at 4:00 pm #478826Is Mcaffe a problem?
December 14, 2016 at 5:47 pm #478830Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve read about McAfee doing just that. Then again, many AV software does that from time to time. One of the reasons I haven’t used any since 2009.
December 14, 2016 at 6:08 pm #478832Not sure about McAfee, but Norton hates new programs. So everytime I compile a new version of any of my programs, and I try to run it, it defaults to removing the executable and putting it into quarantine. I then have to tell it to restore it and trust it. And then it repeats with the next update.
December 15, 2016 at 1:38 am #478845Further to the ‘append _rb3con to name’ feature. I’d like to see the option to append _WiP instead. Perhaps saved to the project and not globally.
That’d be nice
