      Hi Gurus,

Have been trying to author my first song for literally months. After much trial and error I’ve taken it into Magma to compile but am getting plenty of errors (no surprises). I’ve been able to fumble my way through most but I can’t make head nor tail of some beat track errors I’m getting. I have found a couple of previous posts that relate to this but I can’t seem to make their solution fix my problem so I’m coming cap-in-hand to the collective genius here.

Magma is throwing up the following error for EACH instrument:

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (‘PART BASS’): idle event at [1:1:000] is less than 2 beats from the beginning
Make sure you have notes for the entire BEAT track, not just at the beginning, and that you have at least two notes in the BEAT track before this point.
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (‘PART BASS’): play event at [3:1:000] is less than 2 beats from the beginning
Make sure you have notes for the entire BEAT track, not just at the beginning, and that you have at least two notes in the BEAT track before this point.

I’ve ensured the beat track ends one beat before the [end] event marker in the events track and have played around with adding / removing different parts of the beat track at both beginning and end to no avail. I just haven’t figured it out. Am I not allowed [idle] events at the start of the song? I assume I need a [play] event at 3:1:000 to get the respective band member playing when the song starts?

I appreciate this may be something simple but I’ve trawled back and forth through the forums and the tutorial and just haven’t been able to solve it sorry. Any help would be appreciated!

If there are any other really obvious errors with what I’ve done with the .rpp then I’m very keen to get feedback – I’m sure more will become apparent as I continue but solving them is all part of the journey <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

      Thanks again

In subsequent R&D I moved each instrument’s initial [idle] event to 1:3:000 so there were 2 beats before them (when all else fails carefully read the errors huh) and now this is the only error message I receive:

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (BEAT): BEAT track stops at [80:3:000] before end event at [81:1:000]

Don’t I want the last beat at 80:3:000 when my [end] event is at 81:1:000 i.e. stopping one beat before?

I’m also a little dubious the underlying problem is fixed as I have had the same thing happen before (all the previous errors disappear and the single error above present) when I removed the last TWO beats prior to the [end] event as part of my initial troubleshooting.

          OK,

So after moving the [idle] markers as described above, and then realising I had deleted the beat marker one before the [end] event in all my mucking around, I successfully ran magma (after fixing a coupe of other obligatory errors that popped up).

Soooooo, as much as I enjoy publicly embarrassing myself by asking for help for a problem I can solve, and also highlighting exactly how incompetent I am at most things IT, I humbly withdraw my request for assistance (for now……!).

Maybe this will help some other noob in the future…

Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve given up and asked for help only to figure out soon afterwards. Good troubleshooting!

Try to move [end] event on 83:0 then create a beat track end exactlty 83:0
