      Not sure if serious, but…

I’m always serious. You missed the point. I wasn’t arguing that RB isn’t a better product than GH.

But to be like OMG we got a huge artist OMG you’re going to be so excited is pure bullshit.

If they had announced Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin or some other band that to date no other game had gotten, that is worth saying it’s a big deal.

But a band that had their own entire game already? That’s just a decent get at best. They blow things out of proportion. It would be warranted if GH:VH, GH:A or GH:M hadn’t existed. But since they do, HMX needs to realize it’s not as big as they’re thinking it is.

Guess we’ll have to disagree then. I think Van Halen is a big get. I do agree they’re not as big of a get as Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, and I’ll even agree the magnitude of the get is tempered a bit by the fact they’ve already appeared in other music games. But it’s still a big get, and I don’t fault Harmonix for bragging a bit. Heck, I think they should brag if and when they get Eric Clapton, even if he has already appeared in PowerGig and RockSmith.

Just remember who made C3 and customs possible. Harmonix. So in a way, if you want to show your support for C3, buy Rock Band 4.

*I* know that *you* know that *I* know this and appreciate everything that they have done. I was just being honest.

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that Rock Band is pretty much the only console game that I play, and I’m being asked to purchase a new console to continue to do so in the future. I’ve already gone through this once (I bought an Xbox 360 just for Rock Band when it came out, and while I don’t regret that purchase in the least…it’s still a non-trivial purchase decision (especially given that I would likely continue to purchase new DLC…if 2009-2013 was any indication). I likely *will* pony up for all of this stuff, but I’m kinda passive/aggressively letting my unease with some of the announced features influence the rapidity of that decision. Playing “hard to get”, I guess. But I’m ultimately a whore for Rock Band, and will likely break at some point.

Van Halen is unquestionably a big “get”. On paper.

The question is…does anybody under the age of 30 really care?

As TrojanNemo already pointed out…anybody who’s 1) into music games and 2) into Van Halen likely already purchased GH:VH. So there’s not much “wow!” factor there for the existing demo. I am decidedly both, and have a decent amount of disposable income…and even *then*, I’m having trouble pulling the trigger.

But the newer/younger players…while they may know/appreciate Van Halen…they probably don’t really care all that much. So VH being announced isn’t necessarily going to sell *any* new preorders the way that a “less old”, “never appeared before in a music game” act might.

Obviously custom converts make this announcement a little less special, but for the mainstream, Van Halen is a huge get. It’ll help sell more copies, and it’s one less reason (only 999 left) to need to boot up a last gen system to play RB3.

            I hope we see a decent amount of DLC tracks. Not expecting the whole GHVH setlist, but at least another 5 tracks should be warranted. I also doubt we’ll see any Sammy stuff unfortunately. If I had to make a practical guess (and not a wishlist) for the DLC pack;

            Van Halen 01

            You Really Got Me

            Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love

            Jump (even w/o keys support)

            Hot For Teacher

I hear ya, and I apologize if my tone seemed condescending. I think that people who say they’re “on the fence” because of customs are doing a disservice to themselves and to the company behind that fence. But I also understand there are a lot more reasons to be on the fence about RB4 than just customs. RB4 is pretty much my only reason for getting an XBone as well, and as committed as I am to the cause, the decision hasn’t been quite as easy as it was when I bought an XBox 360 just to play the first Rock Band.

I’m disappointed. Why? Because HMX continues to operate as if Guitar Hero didn’t exist.

Miyamoto continues to operate as if Sonic didn’t exist.

Rockstar continues to operate as if Saint’s Row didn’t exist.

Microsoft/Sony continue to operate as if PCs didn’t exist.

                etc.

No worries. We are definitely on same page.

We didn’t even delve into the fact that RB4 is basically a “make or break” release for not only HMX but Mad Catz as well…if RB4 doesn’t sell well out of the gate…it will be serious trouble for both.* So as somebody who HMX would consider to be an “invested fan”…I kinda feel responsible for doing my part, buying whatever they put out, just to keep the party going further. I just don’t want to *feel* like it’s a guilt purchase decision.

*I thought the most recent survey that they sent out was not a great sign…basically pleading “if you haven’t already gotten the pre-order…WHY THE HELL NOT? (my paraphrase…not theirs)” No matter what I would answer, it would be something that HMX couldn’t directly address, since the featureset is likely locked and I can’t imagine that there’d be any kind of significant changes to plan at this point in the build.

I’m not a huge fan of Van Halen, but I think it’s cool that HMX finally got them on RB. It isn’t going to sway me one way or the other on pre-ordering though. The main thing keeping me ‘on the fence’ isn’t the setlist, the missing features, the career mode, or even the customs scene. It’s having to buy the game, possibly in a more expensive bundle with new instruments, AND a new CONSOLE just to play it. That’s a large pill to swallow all at once.

I am a big fan of Van Halen. Have a few of there albums and saw them back in 2005. As weird as it may sound this song alone plus the announcement of future DLC by them pretty much wont make me back out of my preorder like I used to think. I am glad to see this band announced. I had the GHVH and I thought it sucked, I hate single band games with a few add ons. Perfect band to have in a party game!!!

So with Van Halen on board there could be a possibility that The Eagles and Tool could be potential artists. Any exclusivity from the GH World Tour era should be way over by now.

It would be interesting to see a graph of number of interested buyers versus time. Because it seems that the more that is known, the less excited people get. Or maybe it’s just me. Especially coming from arguably the epitome of rhythm gaming that is RB3 customs, it’s hard to go back to something less great. Each song announced is one more song that would have been better released 3 years ago.

Its pretty easy to scoff when we can essentially make whatever song we desire. Which is why RB4 better shine with its new mode offerings.

This is not a wish list thread. Please keep your discussion to the songs announced.

But take that wishlist and send it to Harmonix, I’m sure that’ll go over well.
