August 24, 2015 at 11:10 pm #453513Yeah, if only Mad Catz were going to a lot of effort to improve the design of the instruments for the new game. Tch, eh?
How many tries should we really have to give them to get it right? The RB3 drum kit I got had the cymbal over-hit defect right out of the box. It’s not plausible that they weren’t aware of these types of problems, but they rolled the product out anyway. For $130 I expected more than I got.

Say it ain’t so-ooh-whoa-ooh-whoa.
I haven’t had a lemon from them since the GameCube days, so, knock on wood.
August 25, 2015 at 1:42 pm #453549Well, they did. But they can’t improve the quality to that of a $300 drumset, and include it with everything else in the bundle for $250, can they? So you’d need another Ion set as I’m sure regular users wouldn’t want to pay $600 for a band kit that included drums up the quality you seem to want. The best solution is an adapter or Ion to get their shit together and make it compatible. I really think the heat should be on them, not Madcatz or HMX.The heat should be on Ion to update the Ion kit’s compatibility, true. I don’t know how motivated they are to do so, given there was going to be a revised Ion kit with RB3-branding that was then pulled due to perceived lack of interest, but either way, I agree that’s Ion’s decision to make.
Having said that, for those of us who own e-kits other than the Ion kit, I think the heat should be on Mad Catz and/or Harmonix to come up with a new MIDI solution. It’s too late now, but I wonder if they could have designed the RB4 drum controller to include a MIDI port. Activision and Red Octane did that with the GH drums, so it doesn’t seem like it would have driven the production cost up that much. Mad Catz might have sold a few more drum controller pre-orders as a result.
August 25, 2015 at 5:58 pm #453565Would it really have been so difficult for them to offer a controller adapter that supports wired controllers? It seems obvious considering the MIDI pro adapter was wired, plus it broadens their audience by allowing the use of wired instruments like Ions.

Microsoft.
Two words:
USB vulnerabilities.
August 25, 2015 at 7:25 pm #453573It’s not like Microsoft removed USB functionality. The Xbone has USB ports and already supports at least one MadCatz USB controller (Arcade Fightstick).

The Xbone has USB ports and already supports at least one MadCatz USB controller (Arcade Fightstick).Microsoft traditionally has been very paranoid about what controllers they allow to connect to their systems. If you ever need some reading material, look up the extra steps developers and players had to take to make the X-Arcade Stick and the You Rock Guitar work on the 360, compared to the PS3. That’s because Microsoft wouldn’t sanction official adapters for those controllers, and so workarounds had to be invented.
Perhaps something about the 360’s wireless controllers makes it easier for the new dongle to filter out any “unapproved” controllers, where a dongle for wired controllers can’t be so selective. If so, then it is quite believable that Microsoft would simply say, “Nope, no wired controllers,” rather than take the chance.
August 26, 2015 at 12:08 am #453600I’m sure any protocol Microsoft used to detect unauthorized wireless controllers would have an equivalent for wired controllers. Otherwise Xbone wouldn’t allow wired controllers at all if that is a real concern of Microsoft’s.

Otherwise Xbone wouldn’t allow wired controllers at all if that is a real concern of Microsoft’s.See, I don’t think this was a calculated thing. I mean, they could have just released RB4 as it is with no hardware compatibility and force everybody to buy new instruments, but they didn’t. Evidently the reasoning was “let’s get the largest possible base”. I truly believe technical issues are at play here, or at least processes that require investments not worth the trouble.
August 26, 2015 at 12:55 am #453605I truly believe technical issues are at play hereAs someone who profits greatly by those unnamed technical issues: that is the truth. MS is just trying to keep it locked down.
August 28, 2015 at 7:49 pm #453845Still no reason for me to get RB4 then. I’m not keen on buying another one of MadCatz’ terrible drum kits. This is where I stand.
I have 3 wireless mics, an ION kit, and Stage kit that wont work upon launch or possibly ever….
Which in that case would mean I would have to not only buy the band bundle to get their piece of shit drumset, but also the adapter by itself to have a full band…
And thats not even mentioning that I have yet to upgrade to a XBO because I wanted to see where this was going…
I’m disappointed sure, but not really surprised, and thus, not upgrading until the situation is remedied…
I have more than enough in my catalog of well over 1k songs to hold me over rather than shelling out about $700 towards a product that is as of yet built to my liking.
October 2, 2015 at 4:50 pm #456482i’ve just found out lips mics arn’t compatible I’m asking them why not, also they’ve changed the statues of the mad cats fender precision bass split strum from compatible to not compatible if thats true about the wireless one they can kiss my money good bye because thats a fucking insult to bassists. Seriously they can fuck off why am i going to buy a game if my pride and joy controller isn’t compatible despite the fact its an official rock band peripheral. I know the lips mics arn’t but come on i want to use wireless microphones not wired !
October 9, 2015 at 5:11 pm #457218That’s a good price too. $20 on top of the game price? Hmmm. I hope they do sell them separately too. I might need one for proper full band playback. Not to mention I prefer my GH guitars.
Nemo I got 1 on Amazon for 29.99 with shipping cost. has shipped I should have it tomorrow. It’s about the size of a deck of cards is what Amazon said.
October 9, 2015 at 5:13 pm #457219Yeah I got mine for $10.69 shipped via Amazon Prime when they went up and $15 off code was valid
October 9, 2015 at 5:19 pm #457220Do you think there will ever be a work around to get E Drums to work ?
If not I will have a full band kit for Xbone to get rid off. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
