After months of playing and enjoying the songs provided by the community, I’ve decided to tackle charting customs. I don’t really feel ready to leap off the deep end quite yet and chart for scratch, so I’ve decided instead to work on upgrading some older customs by other authors and doing my best to bring them up to current standards. I’m starting with some really old video game remix customs that were originally intended for Rock Band 2 on Wii and Frets on Fire, but I would like to also do a few Guitar Hero conversions eventually as well. Here is what I’m currently working on:
Original author: Harmonix
CON file: http://kngi.org/rb/cons/becauseitsmidnite_rb3con.zip
Raw files package: http://kngi.org/rb/rpp-becauseitsmidnite.zip
-No vocals yet
-Reductions on other instruments will most likely need to be redone to match modern standards
-Keyboard during the intro and solo moved to actual keys instead of guitar
-A few adjustments done to the guitar chart, including new rhythm guitar charting during the keyboard solo
-Drums added but are Expert Only for now, as I’d like some feedback on them before doing the reductions.
-Audio is from the Strong Bad Sings album version of the song. As much as I wanted to use the stems from GH80s, they were unfortunately in extremely rough shape, and of course keys (aside from the solo), drums, and vocals were all on the same stem.
Song: Remix of “Doomsday Zone” from Sonic & Knuckles, originally from OverClocked ReMix
Originally charter: inimitable
CON file: http://kngi.org/rb/cons/elzfernodoomsday_rb3con.zip
Raw files package: http://kngi.org/rb/cons/elzfernodoomsday_rb3con.zip
WHAT’S NEW:
-Nearly identical to the original chart by inimitable, with some slight adjustments to get past Magma
-Drum animations (fairly rudimentary, but I think they work)
-Practice sessions
-Mostly autogenerated venue, though I did add in a few lighting effects
WHAT’S WRONG:
-The lighting tends to go black and white for most of the song; not sure how to fix it
Song: Remix of “I’ll Go” from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, originally from OverClocked ReMix
Original charter: inimitable
CON file: http://kngi.org/rb/cons/gothedistancesixto_rb3con.zip
Raw files package: http://kngi.org/rb/cons/gothedistancesixto_rb3con.zip
WHAT’S NEW:
-Most of the keys were originally charted to guitar, so that was reworked into a 5-lane keys chart
-The original had rhythm on bass, so I used that to fill in the gaps of the guitar chart after taking keys out
-Charted a few small new sections of both guitar and keys
-Charted 99% of the bass from scratch. This was difficult to do, especially since it was hard to hear the bass even after isolating it with some EQ (the isolated bass track is included in the package.) I would really like feedback on this.
-Added pro drum markers (yep, it was originally charted using RBN1 standards)
-Solo markers for guitar and keys (questioning the placement somewhat of the second keys solo marker)
-Autogenerated venue
-Practice sessions
WHAT’S WRONG:
-Both drum and basic keyboard animations are in place, but aren’t working; not sure why
-No pro keys. Not sure if I’ll ever be able to do them, honestly; the keys part of this song is pure insanity
-Some of the note tails are too close together on guitar and keys
-Easy and Medium difficulties on bass still mostly follow the rhythm guitar, though I did change all chords to single notes
I’m definitely looking for and appreciate any feedback!
February 10, 2014 at 12:11 am #413797I’ve downloaded the CON file for Go The Distance twice, and both times it shows up on my USB as a corrupt file, I’ve put other songs on the USB earlier just fine, so no idea what’s causing it
February 10, 2014 at 12:26 am #413798Something is wrong with these files. I thought that maybe they were signed for JTAG 360’s as LIVE files but no they are CON. They just show up as corrupted.
February 10, 2014 at 9:25 am #413817Huh, strange. I’ve reuploaded both of the CONs and went ahead and reuploaded the file packages too, for good measure. Let me know if they’re still acting up.
February 10, 2014 at 10:09 pm #413848I can only comment on doomsday – the stand alone .con doesn’t work – but if you use the one from the raw package that one is fine.
February 11, 2014 at 1:38 am #413856Still showing as corrupt
February 11, 2014 at 8:44 am #413868Not sure why, but I’m thinking my server doesn’t like files without an extension. I zipped the CONs, so hopefully that’ll fix the issue.
EDIT: Fixed the links in the first post!
February 13, 2014 at 10:57 pm #413987Talk about digging one out of the mothballs, here’s an HMX-era Guitar Hero conversion:

February 13, 2014 at 11:15 pm #413989Oh man once vocals get added to that I’m all over it!
February 15, 2014 at 12:46 am #414074So hyped for Limozeen.
March 6, 2014 at 3:04 am #415145I’d prefer different cover art
March 7, 2014 at 10:12 am #415214Stick with the Strong Bad artwork. It is the album this song is from, after all.
March 23, 2014 at 9:02 am #416040Well you’re wrong and I hate you and all other robots. It’s a faux band, it deserves a faux album art cover.
March 23, 2014 at 8:25 pm #416084I’ll be sticking with the actual album and artwork. But hey, at least C3 CON Tools makes it super easy to swap the album art yourself!
Unfortunately, I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around charting vocals. I’m also way too busy to work on charting much lately, but hopefully that will change.
