July 20, 2013 at 4:00 am #403268What I don’t get is why there had to be back-to-back REO Speedwagon releases. There’s a reason official DLC never did this and it’s because it makes it seem like there’s less variety. I think last week’s should have had both.
tl;dr: The release schedule, while mostly plotted out, is always in a bit of a state of flux fitting what we have ready and what we have coming, and we opted not to delay the REO Speedwagon release (from a different author) to slide it into this week to sit alongside the themed pack — we also decided to not delay the themed pack a few weeks arbitrarily.
July 20, 2013 at 9:42 am #403276!@#$ing rad week guys. Ministry full album is a pleasant surprise. Great journey pick. I remember hearing the journey song for the first time back in the day when Beavis and Butthead was making fun of the music video of the song.
July 20, 2013 at 10:34 am #403277There are not enough words I can use to express my happiness, but I have to try.
My heart LITERALLY skipped a beat when I saw this week’s blog post. Why? The Journey song. That song, to me, I have always felt was a quintessential pick for Rock Band. Fantastic vocals, and fairly popular, interesting guitar and bass, not to mention the piano. More than anything, it’s just plain fun. I’ve wanted it for years.
More over, Journey is one of my favorite bands. They’re the perfect Classic Rock band. They (alongside Foreigner and Night Ranger) were the first concert I went to two years ago, and I was only 15 at the time. I’ve loved them for years, as have my parents, so I begged to go see them when they came to the state I reside in. Let’s just say the 3 hour drive was worth it.
It’s 6 A.M. over here, and I was tempted to go back to sleep seeing as I work at 12, but I realized I should check what songs were being released this week. Now, instead of going back to bed, I’m getting up and transferring it to my hard drive and playing the hell out of it.
Thank you guys so much. You just made my day in ways I cannot express. Thank you.
July 20, 2013 at 10:34 am #403278Duplicate post. My apologies.

Thanks for not delaying the pack! It’s a great counter to the Ministry album. It gives people that are not into Ministry something to play.
As for the lack of variety comment, I totally disagree. Yes, we had REO Speedwagon two weeks in a row, but they were not the only songs released. Plus, they were both really big songs from them that many have been dying to play. Could they have been released together, sure….but who cares! We are getting amazing free content every week!

Actually, it’s more complex than “release them together!”. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
1) From day 1, I believe that our authors do such a great job that the illusion that this is the same DLC stream we used to have from Harmonix makes people forget that we don’t author to sell but we author what we love. And while there is some planning involved, almost all our authors author to release (meaning they author, test and then release right away), so having two similar authors or songs from the same author being done at the same time is very possible because there’s little planning involved.
2) As you already correctly noted, Ministry is not necessarily to everyone’s taste (as wasn’t Queensryche when we released the GnR pack in the same week), so the Arena Rock was slotted in.
3) I do my packs sometimes months in advance (next week’s release I started authoring a year ago or so…) so there’s no way we can coordinate stuff with people who author to release.
4) Even if we could, personally I love symmetry: I can see a 3-pack with 2 songs from the same artists because you can have 2 great songs and nothing more from an artist and wanting to round it up to 3. But, as things were, the pack was perfectly assorted with one song from each artist and all with a different feel, for a 3-pack.
With all that said, and I’m replying to a previous comment, diversity is certainly not an issue with our releases: in 3 months I think we released songs from as a varied range of genres as you can imagine.
July 21, 2013 at 2:22 am #403318That Journey song really is a “that” song moment. I never remembered the title and just glossed over it thinking it couldn’t possibly be it. Those are some fantastic keys right up there with Steppenwolf’s Magic Carpet Ride.
July 21, 2013 at 6:16 am #403328Great job on all 3 of the Arena Rock tracks. Yes, the REO track is from their sappy era, but it’s still fun to play. The Journey track was something of a surprise to me. I forget what an interesting drummer Steve Smith is. It’ll take a while for this old man to figure out how to play those breakdown sections rather than just throw my sticks at the kit & hope for the best.
July 24, 2013 at 12:04 pm #403427I’m LOVIN this stuff guys, keep up the awesome work…..More 80″s hair band songs would be great…..
August 11, 2013 at 7:24 am #404417Props to DeathThreatUK on his contribution this week. Normally, I’m not one for compliments since I keep my feedback down to suggested fixes and complaints, usually only offering critiques. But I’m enjoying the few Ministry songs I included in my setlist and am playing tonight drunk. At my expert guitar level, the song choices (NWO, Just One Fix and Scare Crow) are keeping me plenty satisfied on my playing level. I hope you come across this post and get a satisfaction worth enough to keep you working on more songs.
January 26, 2014 at 7:49 pm #412957Psalm 69 (the title track, not the album in general) has been updated today. Here are the fixes:
-Fixed vocal errors
-Added harmonies
The fix-up was done by Nightmare Lyre.
