So I bit the bullet and bought a MIDI Pro Adapter despite the ridiculous shipping rates over here only to find out I can’t get the thing to work. When I plug it into my Xbox, it doesn’t seem to register it at all, not reacting to any button presses or even acknowledging it as a controller. I tried plugging in my Keyboard to it, and whenever I press a key on it I see the adapter’s built in light flash briefly which I assume means it reacts to the MIDI feedback, but yeah just nothing actually happens

 

I tried setting it to different instrument modes and adjust the velocity wheel as well but it didn’t seem to do anything. I also have one for PS3 that I use for ProTar and that one have worked with no problems

 

Am I fucked or is there something I am doing wrong here?

Every MPA that I’ve ever used (PS3 and Xbox) has immediately been recognized as a controller as soon as it was plugged in.

If you use Windows, download the Microsoft Xbox Controller drivers. Connect the MPA to your PC. Does it light up and get a controller number assigned? It works. No response? Check Device Manager. Anything listed there? You may be able to see an error code or something. Or it might work.

I plugged an MPA into the notebook I used to control the Stage Kit , back when I played on PS3. IDed as Harmonix Drum Kit for PlayStation3. Not surprising, since it was set on drums. No lights or response. No controller assignment. Listed in Device Manager as IDed above, and it’s status is shown as working properly.

 

Interestingly, when I switch it to guitar, it displays the SOS signal, meaning it doesn’t detect a MIDI device. Keys and drums don’t do this, for some reason. Switching while attached changed the ID in Device Manager to reflect the setting.

 

The buttons and hat all responded to testing, except OD and the wheel.

I never got a PS3 MPA to work on PC, not sure it’s possible, AFAIK only Xbox ones work.

 

For the SOS signal: this is normal, with keys I only get the SOS signal if I unplug or turn off the keyboard. If I plug the MPA on keyboard mode without a connection it doesn’t do it. I think it’s because pro guitar needs SysEx data, and this is pretty much streaming data, and it’s missing, unlike keyboards and drums, which doesn’t need it.

According to what I have heard and read (and the fact that it smelled burnt out of the package) I determined the bloody thing was broken out of the box so ordered a new one. This one better work

I had an adapter that, after some time, seemed to have stopped working. Turns out it was my MIDI cable, which didn’t look broken at all. Try testing your cable out with something else to make sure it’s not that.

Wasn’t able to use it at all when plugged in, with or without a MIDI cable attached, though. As in, the d-pad and buttons on it had no reaction and it refused to connect as a controller
