Hi all,

 

some of you may have seen the video I posted earlier on the 360iso forum, showcasing around 50 custom songs I charted. If you haven’t here’s the link to the video:

 

So far I’ve received some nice replies and requests to make them public. Thing is I only have the Guitar and Bass parts charted on Hard and Expert atm. My drumming skills are poor and so I don’t think I would be able to chart Drums properly, because I have no idea when a song is too hard or too easy to play. Same goes for Keys.

I’ve never looked into charting Vox and Animations, basicly I never really cared about those I just wanted to play the songs I loved. But after seeing this ‘rapture’ happen it got me thinking; wouldn’t it be cool to actually share the songs I have and hopefully release them for C3 in full glory.

 

I think my charts are pretty good, better then a lot of customs out there. They probably need a little tweaking to match your standards; OD phases / minor note stuff etc. And ofcourse I would have to chart the Easy / Medium difficulties, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

 

Anyways, I hope there is some way to got my stuff released. I realize it is a lot of work to add the missing features. I might actually be able to do some of the stuff myself when I read up on those subjects (drums/vox I’m not sure about). Please let me know what you guys think and whether or not it’s possible for me to be part of the team. I sat through the entire twenty minute video earlier. I have to say I was impressed with the volume of the catalogue, the tempo mapping (which, at least in the snippets showed, seemed great to me — this is an area a lot of people struggle), and the diversity of track selections. You’ve hit the type of stuff we’d like to be putting out spot on the nose, so that’s a big plus.

 

I do have to say there were a couple of things in pretty much every chart that seemed a little off to me — primarily the odd notes that felt like they were left out or something feeling off with the way you had them ascending/descending the cart — but hey, when I was starting out my charts were a goddamn trainwreck compared to those, so it’s definitely a solid start. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>

 

Don’t take that too harshly or the wrong way, though — we all have areas where we can improve, and I think you’ve got the right attitude for this sort of thing.

 

If you’re looking to do collaboration-style projects and get other people in for drums/vocals and optionally keys, I’d say the best plan is probably looking at working on a small subset of your existing back catalogue at a time — it makes it easier to focus on getting those guitar and bass parts up to speed. I might take a look at a couple of those picks and see about authoring drums/vocals, but I’ll have to look the list over again and see what I feel I can hammer out in a reasonable amount of time.

Welcome! Quite a few interesting songs in there. Bolded are songs I would personally be interested in adding vocals and drums. I think Nemo would help with animations like the great guy that he is. Not bolded I could pitch in, let’s see what my mates have to say. In red stuff that needs attention but not authoring.

Ahh sorry bout that, hope I didn’t offend you or anything. The one thing that I really didn’t like in that version is that it ends so abruptly, I’d prefer the song to fade out instead of cutting it off all of a sudden (even if it is a little bit weird having a song fade out while playing). I’m wondering now if you also made the Beach Boys songs? If I remember correctly, those also have that sudden cut of sound in the end. I was kidding. I hate fadeouts but we rarely have stems (we had those for the Pantera songs) so I have to compromise. I think it’s worth it to find someone with a nice audio engineering background to apply some kind of samples, maybe taken from the song itself, to wrap it up (a splash, in example).

Hmm, I base nearly all of my charts on actual sheet music and adjust when necessary (the sheets aren’t always as accurate). In some cases I even feel I’m overcharting, making some tracks really hard to play on Expert (I’m not the best Guitar player though and struggle on Expert so that might have something to do with it). But I don’t think I left out notes or anything, sure there might be some ocassional hickups. In some songs it’s just really hard to hear what’s going on as well, as you will know. The tempo mapping sometimes was a problem when I just started charting. Over time I learned some tricks to make things work and the tempo mapping is something I’m real fussy about. Since I started out I always wanted to chart John Miles – Music but I could never map it correctly (the song goes into a 7/4 measure at a certain point and changes tempo a lot) I just recently managed to finally get it sorted. I used to produce dance tracks that were actually released in stores on vinyl, so I guess that helped me a lot with the tempo mapping stuff. I might even be able to add those end splashes farottone was talking about earlier.

Reduction is the least of the issues, if any. But it would help going through those songs in Reaper to check them out and see what kind of work is needed, how MIDI files we have for vocals fit with the tempo map (for thos eof us working with MIDI files), etc. Or, if you work in Reaper, just the original Reaper projects with the audio files.

Reaper/Media is always easier since all we’d be doing with a CON is ripping the .mid and .mogg.

 

As to my point about missing notes, it’s just a lot of little flourishes and touches that are maybe a little different in the recorded track than any sheet music or arrangement. Like the charts themselves look great as general reference but there’s some fretting action that just seems to be absent. Occasionally things like the way ascending/descending notes are wrapped seemed a little wonky too. I’d have to watch the video again to pick out some examples, but like I said, they’re not major issues. Just stuff I happened to catch (likely because it’s the stuff I always look for on the second/third passes of my own charts).
