      Hello.

I’m working in several customs. The issue is that when I add the animations to the hi hat pedal, in the game is inverted, I mean, when hi hats are closed the drummer open them and when there is a open hi hat note, the drummer closes it. But, when hi hat is not played, I add pedal hits at the beat of the song and they look great. To do this I add notes in hi hat open. This part is good for me, I don’t have any problem with this. Doing this, I realize this notes closes the hi hat. The hi hat is closed at the same time the ride gets hit.

But the problem occurs here. Hi hat pedal is closed when I add this notes. So if this notes are closed, to open I guess I have to cut a long note. Like this. Hi hats sound closed within long note. I tried doing the opposite in this part and didn’t work. It doesn’t matter what I do, hi hats are inverted. So what am I doing wrong?

      Thanks for your help.

The hi-hat should be open for the majority of the phrase shown in your picture, closed only for a couple of hits. You’re saying the opposite is happening when you play the song in-game?

I couldn’t say why that is happening, though others might have some idea. Do you have a project file you’re willing to share? If someone can see this behavior on their own system it may help find the cause.

Ok I tried again but this time combined:

In the place I wanted closed hi hat hits when hi hats are not played, I leave a open hi hat note every time I wanted a hi hat hit. Like this

When the drummer played hi hats note, I only put a open hi hat short note when the hi hat opens, I mean, a blue note. Like this.

I tested in the game and I got I wanted. the hi hat hits with rides perfect, and the hi hats notes were closed, but I couldn’t see when hi hat opens in blue notes due the cameras, I tried many time in different venues. But I guess they are ok.

Being that said, It seems open hi hats notes in the animations are closed when you draw a note without playing the hi hat cymbal, and they are open when you draw a note when the drummer is playing the hi hat.

I’m not sure, I will test this in my others customs and I will let you know.

          Thank you

That looks correct for hi-hat notes played with the pedal. Some players call such notes “chinks” since that describes the slightly different sound the hi-hat makes compared to hitting it with a stick.

Strictly speaking you might want to move those open hi-hat “notes” a 16th note back, so that note ends at the exact moment a “chink” is supposed to be heard. Remember, the in-game player opens the hi-hat whenever an open hi-hat note begins, and closes the hi-hat when that note ends.

However if you think the animation looks good enough as is, that’s okay too.

So for this phrase, most of the hi-hat notes are supposed to be closed, with an occasional open note? If so, the chart looks good. Personally I would make the open hi-hat notes a little longer so that the hi-hat is closed at the same time the next hi-hat note is played. Of course that depends on what is actually heard in the song, and either way it should look all right.

Also, it’s possible you were earlier running into a known bug with drummer animations. Often the animations will start with the hi-hat already open, at which point the hi-hat will remain open until an open hi-hat note closes it. Even some of Harmonix’s songs fall victim to this bug. “Creep” by Radiohead is my favorite example. You can work around this bug by adding a short note on the open hi-hat track before the song starts, to ensure the animated drummer starts with a closed hi-hat.

Thanks for the information. Now I have another question.

For 2x bass pedal. The drummer has double pedal or two bass with two pedals depending of the drum kit. Is it possible to make the drummer play the left kick pedal? I haven’t authored a 2x bass pedal song, and I watch at harmonix’ charts with no 2x bass pedal nut its animations only are for right kick.

Should I put all kick pedals in kick RF and add a open hi hat for right kicks?

To answer your question, the secondary kick pedal is not used in animations. Based on Harmonix’ authoring and what you’re allowed to animate, the secondary kick animations could either be abandoned altogether or put all into the same kick pedal instead. It’s up to you to choose, whether or not it feels realistic to perform. But don’t use the hi-hat pedal for that means.

Can the cowbell of the drum kit be animated?

What does the marker percussion RH and percussion LH? I tried to use them but magma said that are bad midi notes.
