A little background on me and my Rock Band obsession:

I bought all the Harmonix DLC and most of the RBN stuff, so I have a huge list of songs. I have had to move hundreds of songs from my hard drive in order to not hit the 2950 song limit.

 

Now, I have been using customs since the Rapture announcement and now it seems I have hit some limit that causes the game to freeze when loading new content on startup. It will find the new files, but after loading them, the game freezes.

I added around 30 new songs to my usb drive last night, and the game froze after loading them. Thinking there was a bad file in the batch, I eventually added them one at a time, loading the game for each one, until it froze again.

I currently have 376 custom files on my USB drive and 2860 total songs in the game. If I load one more song to the drive, the game will freeze when loading the new file. I’ve tried adding a couple different songs thinking it was just a bad file, but it still froze. I tried adding an additional usb stick with the new songs thinking there might be a usb limit, but it still froze. I tried deleting a song off the drive, and then trying to load a new song, but it still froze. If I load the game with no more additional songs, it will work.

 

I’m thinking that there is some kind of cache limit that I have hit from just moving songs off the hard drive and not deleting them in-game or rebuilding the cache. When I get time, I’m going to try deleting my cache and loading everything from scratch. The only problem is that I also use the Harmony Project Upgrades, which require the cache to be rebuilt in a specific order. It looks like I’m going to lose all my offline scores for all my songs. I’ve been trying to avoid this, but it looks like I’m going to have to get used to not having stars next to my songs anymore. But if a cache rebuild will allow me to add more songs, I won’t be too upset. I’ll just have to break the news to my other bandmates.

 

Has anyone else experienced the game freezing when loading new songs? If anyone has more songs loaded than I do, please let me know so I at least know it’s possible to have more.

Back up your cache before experimenting so that you can restore it — if you’re at a hard song limit, at least you won’t lose your scores without gain. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

Thanks, Espher. OK, deleting the cache worked. I was able to get more songs and the game didn’t freeze. Now to get the Harmony Project back on.
