Re: Atlanta Rhythm Section. I was in the camp of “somebody already produced a custom of the Classics IV version…do we really need another?” when Fuji said he’s working on their cover of “Spooky”. But the final result is a really fun song to play.
Great job on that and “Witchy Woman”. Both played great at my Halloween party on Saturday. Really looking forward to the rest, sir.
November 7, 2015 at 5:07 am #458884I’m happy to hear you liked those, Sam.
Newly polished and now ready for prime time is Heart’s “What about Love”. Rummage through the customs database or just click the image below.Notes from the WIP thread:This song is this close to needing a 2x-bass alternate, but I think the tempo is just slow enough to get away with all those beats in the outro. It certainly wears my leg out, but I am able to play it all the way through. Let me know if anyone thinks there is too much bass. This could very easily turn into the easiest 2x-bass song in the game! Please enjoy!“What about Love” is now available for Rock Band 4!
November 8, 2015 at 1:12 am #458930REALLY excited about What About Love. About to give it spin. Thank you!
November 8, 2015 at 6:02 am #458942Update: it rocked.
November 8, 2015 at 3:29 pm #458961Would you consider doing some Drivin and Cryin songs Like Fly me courageous, to build a fire , Let’s go dancing? Your customs are really great to play!
December 5, 2015 at 6:12 pm #460312Finally! Two Billy Joel tracks are ready to ship!
Now you can play “Honesty” and “Allentown” along with all the other awesome Billy Joel tunes already in the game.
Notes for “Honesty” from the WIP thread:
I think pro-keys players will like this very faithful chart. Only the final chord actually had to be fudged, though I also shifted one note and dropped another to avoid a two-measure range shift. Even the animations are pretty authentic. Some left-hand notes had to be shifted, but otherwise what you see is what’s actually being played.Notes for “Allentown” from the WIP thread:
Back to New York, with a stop in Pennsylvania along the way. The reference MIDI for this one was originally a collaboration between myself and Dale Aston, who MIDI enthusiasts might know as “OnNTwo”. Dale did some excellent MIDI tunes back in the day, and I enjoyed working on this one with him. Actually the MIDI for “Witchy Woman” was also a collaboration between us, but we never did quite finish that one, and it was around that time that other hobbies pulled me away from sequencing. Thanks to RB3 and customs, I’m back in again!Hope you enjoy!
December 5, 2015 at 6:34 pm #460317Yay!
So pleased to finally be able to play “Allentown”. Looking forward to playing tonight.
December 6, 2015 at 6:08 pm #460376Allentown is a bloody good song to add.
December 16, 2015 at 6:05 pm #460831Just went through this forum on a whim yesterday and stumbled on this. Thanks for the Billy Joel songs brother, very accurate. Honestly, not that many songs custom or otherwise that I can leave my keyboard volume on for.
Great work, keep it up.
February 7, 2016 at 3:31 am #463197Hot off what had been a very cold press, here is… finally… “Boat on the River” by Styx!
Notes from the WIP thread:
Trivia question! What is Styx’s most successful song, globally? “Come Sail Away”? “Babe”? “Mr. Roboto”? Nope, it’s “Boat on the River”. The song didn’t even chart in the U.S., Styx’s homeland, but elsewhere the song reached the top five, even #1 in some countries, as it became the band’s highest-selling single. More recently I heard someone suggest this song might not be the best fit for Rock Band 3. My response? “Challenge accepted!”Of course I give permission to anyone who wants to convert “Boat on the River” for play in Phase Shift, Frets on Fire or this game.
In addition to the solo guitar, there are two rhythm guitars heard through-out “Boat on the River”. I decided to dedicate the game chart to the higher-pitched part. I felt it made for a more interesting and far more challenging guitar track. It also means you can legitimately play the song in this game as well!
I’m curious what people think about the solo. Those trills are beyond my skill level, but I don’t believe the chart is actually impossible to play if you’re a master of the frets.
The keys charts were tweaked slightly from what was in the WIP. The changes are subtle, but I think they make for an even more faithful chart, which I pulled out completely by ear. Of course the finished product has 5-lane keys as well, and all difficulty levels on all instruments.
Hope you enjoy!
PS – Only one song to go from the batch I originally promised last October. With any luck it’ll be ready before next October! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
February 7, 2016 at 5:44 am #463201Nice!! look forward to trying this right now. Thanks for sharing
February 7, 2016 at 6:38 am #463203Bless you, sir, for charting this song. Styx is woefully underrepresented in RB, and this is a fantastic pick.
February 17, 2016 at 8:24 pm #463690To those who have been very patiently waiting for “Heard It In a Love Song”, I started looking at it again this week, and I realized I have a dilemma with the guitar chart. For much of the song, the guitars are buried just enough to make picking out notes and chords incredibly hard, but just loud enough to make fudging incredibly hard to get away with. Rather than try to fake it like I’m already doing (somewhat) with the keys, I’ve decided to throw in the towel…
…and buy a music book. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
It’s now on the way, and once I have it in my paws the chart should fall into place fairly quickly. So, I’m not making any promises here, but I believe I can have this one knocked out in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime I’ve still got a couple of other WIPs to play with so I won’t exactly be twiddling my thumbs. I’ll be strumming with them!
February 24, 2016 at 11:32 pm #464075While waiting for my music book to arrive, I had time to finish working on…
…”Lucky Man” by Emerson, Lake & Palmer! Original tempo map, most instruments and solo vocals by bsbloom. Drums by oscarj08. New 6/8 tempo map, harmony vocals and lots of tweaking by me.
The guitar chart is a mesh of all three guitars in the original song: left acoustic, right acoustic and electric. I think it plays quite well.
I suspect the expert pro keys chart breaks some charting etiquette. There are a couple of range shifts in the middle of a note-heavy section, and there are some note jumps bigger than an octave. I didn’t want to shift or drop notes any more than I had to, because I wanted to capture the original’s sweep up and down the keys, at least as much as the game keyboard would allow. The resulting chart is still playable, even with just one hand, so I think it still makes for a good game chart. If Keith Emerson can do it, so can you! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
Big thanks to bsbloom and oscarj08 for their work on this one. Hope y’all enjoy!
February 24, 2016 at 11:49 pm #464077Awesome! Thanks for polishing this one up.
