October 16, 2014 at 8:18 am #431115Great pick! I thought about doing drums for the whole album somewhere down the line, so this is like… four times better, what with all the instruments!
The only thing… I noticed there’s a few measures of drum chart missing in the middle of the song. Aside from that, thumbs up, drums look really accurate.
Thank you! I think the missing measures are an issue on the EMH charts, but Expert should be showing everything ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> I’ve got the rest of the album (except Shiver and Yellow) on my ‘to do’ list ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> still need to tidy this one up first, but I’ll get there eventually…!
EDIT: I’m just going over the drums now and you’re right, there are missing measures in expert too… whoops… should have a final version coming later though ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
October 16, 2014 at 7:18 pm #431144Thanks for all the comments and tips – I have made a lot of changes and re-uploaded the files here if anyone wants to take a look. I’m also going to share this in the Other Customs Discussion board ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
October 17, 2014 at 4:52 am #431182Try using the ReaEQ plugin, and set a low pass filter to 1000 Hz. That should make the bass a bit easier to hear.
Wow. Thanks for this. I never knew you could do that in reaper. I always thought bringing out the bass would involve having to edit the track in another program like audacity and then importing it.
I just tried this on a track I was working on and the bass is clear as day now. Now that I know I can do it with like 4 clicks, I’ll use this more often to seek out those buried basslines.
October 22, 2014 at 5:35 am #431432Pro keys:I’d go with this progression at M7, M29 and M63:
A2 C3 E3
G2 C3 E3
A2 C3 F3
For the first time, yes, but all other times it should be:
A2 C3 E3
G2 C3 E3
F2 A2 C3 E3
Though the final chord is just F2 A2 C3. Make sure you’re in F-A range through the whole song to accommodate this.
Also, that nice thick chord in the solo is an Amin7, and a few other chords there are missing a note. It should look like this:
I’d also lower the difficulty from 2 dots to 1. Oh, and the G is hit twice at 44.2.
Great song pick, btw. Parachutes is my favourite Coldplay album, and I hope you’ll consider putting some songs on the show floor once you’re more comfortable with charting. I see great potential here.
October 23, 2014 at 3:27 pm #431523Thanks for the tips, sageamagoo – I will make the changes and put an update on my Other Customs thread ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Thanks, too, for the kind comments – I would love to get some customs C3-released so will keep at it!

I have worked through the menus and I cant find this plugin you refer to… can you clearly state where this lies within Reaper please…?
October 23, 2014 at 11:13 pm #431551In the mixer window, click on “FX” in the SONG AUDIO or TRKS track.
Click “Add”.
In the Filter List, enter “ReaEQ”.
Click on “VST: ReaEQ (Cockos)”.
Click “OK”.
October 23, 2014 at 11:53 pm #431556I’d also lower the difficulty from 2 dots to 1.
Oh, regarding this – I meant to ask when I posted initially. I had assumed Magma would assign difficulties automatically based on tempo/note frequency etc. – I realise now that isn’t the case! What’s the best way of determining instrument/band difficulties?

Base it on Harmonix tiers from their sane days (as in, none of the disc stuff, especially not RB3) I would say. In this case, base the tier on how hard/easy the song is compared to the other Coldplay songs available as DLC
Band difficulty should be how hard it would be for a band to beat the song, so it is most often determined on how hard the majority of the charts are in total
October 24, 2014 at 12:04 am #431558I’d also lower the difficulty from 2 dots to 1.

Uh… experience? There’s really no set of rules to go by. It’s just sort of how hard you feel the track is. Maybe someone else can explain it better. After years of playing RB, when I’m ready to build a song, I just have an idea of how difficult it should be rated compared to how difficult other songs are with that rating.
October 24, 2014 at 12:06 am #431559I’d also lower the difficulty from 2 dots to 1.

Ok, then point the guy to the set of rules to define the tiers instead of being confrontational.
October 24, 2014 at 10:12 am #431575Thanks all. I based it just on Harmonix songs I’ve played. I’ve got a lot of official DLC so based it on that. Will consider it against other songs by the same artist in future. I guess it’s always going to be open to individual interpretation! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
