I don’t think boot2 is relevant.
Are you powering the HDD from the wii or elsewhere? The Y cable might work on wii but it might not be stable due to the low power it can draw.
I’ve plugged it into my tv, and a usb wall adapter, with absolutely no luck
November 10, 2017 at 12:46 am #492321Ok, I don’t know if that’s relevant, but you said you used “MiniTool Partition Wizard” while there is a partition manager that comes with the tools. It might be insignificant but the wii is so fussy that I would try with that (I used that).

Nope, same result. Black screen when launching the homebrew app
November 10, 2017 at 1:36 am #492323Eh that’s weird. Last thing that comes to mind is the USB port; as far as I know the best port for data is the one closer to the edge (port 0). If that still doesn’t work I’d try testing with a USB flash drive or something, as this should work. There is a possibility that your drive is not compatible but that is very rare. Have you tried using it with game isos (WBFS)?

i’ve used both ports, and i’ve been using this HDD to play my WBFS back up of RB3 for the last year. at this point, i’m considering just getting a different wii, one of the original ones. They’re only $20
November 10, 2017 at 1:44 am #492325There is also the WiiFlow possibility; while I haven’t really been able to reproduce, one of my friends was able to make an emunand work through WiiFlow; which he probably used also to generate it. Him making it work prooves that it’s possible, but I have no idea how. (If you find a way to make it work with WiiFlow please share, as this would be an easier solution if this works for everyone)
November 10, 2017 at 2:53 am #492326I maybe, MAYBE got wiiflow working. I booted into Neek2o, loaded ‘wiiflow-mod’, set nand emulation to ‘FULL’, and it booted a new game with no save data. I saved the game, went back to the Nee2o wii menu, went to my save data, and sure enough it’s there. I’m calling it a night for tonight, i’ll post an update tomorrow
November 16, 2017 at 11:44 pm #492479I figured out why it’s not working for me with the emu nand that Alternity posted! That emu nand relies on on the Wii having a ‘boot2’, which mine does not. That’s why in the instructions, it says you need ‘NO BOOTMII FOLDER ON SD CARD’. Bootmii uses boot2. So, I’m willing to bet all I need is to get a Wii that’s compatable with boot2
November 17, 2017 at 1:47 am #492487This is possible, I can confirm my wii has bootmii installed on boot2.
January 26, 2018 at 11:11 pm #494766Reviving an old thread, but I feel this is important. I bought a new wii, and it’s working great now. FOR IT TO WORK, BOOTMII NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED AS BOOT2, NOT IOS
February 2, 2018 at 8:03 pm #494984Update: Check the last post on the [How-to] Wii customs threat for my latest problem.
March 21, 2020 at 7:45 pm #510358I came across a way to run TBRB on vWii emu/virtual nand (SD card) that works.
WHY doesn’t RB3 work the same way????????
That’s not quite true, I can get RB3 to work, just can’t load any custom DLC.
Is there a way to convert my official DLC to app files?
July 10, 2020 at 5:57 pm #512708Anonymousthen that’s it? is the method of using app files flawed? only works if it is by SD card? is it just BIN files?
July 12, 2020 at 1:22 am #512747It is not flawed, it works using the method I posted on the first page of this thread, the problem is getting it to work, it’s not very straightforward, and no one ever got it to work with any other emulated NAND than this one.
BIN files are for SD card method, the emulated NAND method will require APP files.
July 14, 2020 at 4:15 pm #512822AnonymousI read the process, I confess that it is very complicated and like many, I don’t think I will be able to make it work through it. can you tell me if it only works through these steps? my question is whether the emuNAND of the USB Loader GX is compatible with custom songs in app format … until today, I only managed to use the SD card method, the one that uses BIN files.
