Hello everyone!
I’m currently working on authoring a song which uses heavy delay on the guitar part, so much so that it almost sounds like it’s actually part of what’s being played. However, when I author the delay, it becomes extremely difficult to play, whereas if I opted to get rid of the delay, it may LOOK wrong compared to the sound, but it’d be more accurate to what’s being played and WAY easier. So my question: should I author the delay notes, or leave them out?
Thanks for reading!

To the song? It’s Rain, by Rob Scallon.

For an existing chart reference: Tribe – Outside

December 17, 2015 at 10:29 am #460866personally, i’d say it depends. for the most part, delay charting isn’t a good idea (as said above), but if the song is played live without delay and the guitarist strums extra to make up for it, i don’t see why not. those are rare cases though, and obviously this isn’t one of them.
December 17, 2015 at 11:04 am #460867Watched the video and the artist’s tutorial, this is an intriguing one actually. At one point in the video he makes it a point to underscore that with no delay the song has a different vibe altogether (“sounds like a hoedown”, in his own words). If you made the case that you authored the delay because the song sounds like something else without it, I wouldn’t object honestly. I’d still go with no delay because with it, it becomes a song of an entire different difficulty level, but I can see the case for authoring it.
December 17, 2015 at 5:14 pm #460875Thanks for all your opinions, guys! I WOULD just put the Hard chart as the Expert without delay, but that would violate a few Hard rules, and would mean there’d be conflicting difficulty levels. As much as I’d like to have the delay for feel’s sake, playability is ultimately what matters most, so I probably won’t chart the delay for it. Now I just have to do reductions…joy…” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
Again, thank you all for the insight.

For repetitive songs like this, if you don’t use CAT tools you’re wasting time. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

Well of course, but you still have to proofread to make sure it didn’t screw it up horribly.

I’m not suggesting you do automatic reductions, hence the word “tools”. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”> You have plenty of commands that are perfect for removing notes in complex patterns. You have your Edit by MBT in example that is perfect to remove notes in repetitive complex patterns.
December 20, 2015 at 12:02 am #460965I suppose it is different for whoever is charting. For example two official Rock Band releases, “Gasoline” by Audioslave and “Release” by Pearl Jam both have delays, but the former has each delay hit charted while the latter just makes it a sustained note. I’m actually glad they did it this way because it made “Gasoline” a lot more enjoyable while it would have made “Release” not as fun.
As per this particular song, I would definitely agree with the others on foregoing charting the delay.
