Strawbs – Round and Round
Strawbs (or The Strawbs) are an English rock band founded in 1964. Although the band started out as a bluegrass group they eventually moved on to other styles such as folk rock, progressive rock, and (briefly) glam rock.
After the break up of the Bursting line-up, Dave Cousins and Dave Lambert recruited a new band around them, bringing in Rod Coombes from Stealers’ Wheel and Chas Cronk from sessions work. John Hawken after leaving Renaissance had played with a number of bands including Spooky Tooth, Vinegar Joe, and Third World War.
Released in the UK in early 1974, shortly after its release in North America, “Hero and Heroine” was a blueprint for things to come – bleak, harsh lyrics reflecting Cousins current state of mind, increasingly electronic/progressive instrumentation and a concentration on the North American/Canadian market, where it sold hugely well, rather than the UK homeland.
They toured with Supertramp in their “Crime of the Century” tour, doing their own “Hero and Heroine” tour, which drew musical similarities and themes.

NRBQ – I Like That Girl
I was introduced to NRBQ (New Rhythm and Blues Quintet (Quartet, Sir)) in 1998, only 32 years after they formed, in an episode of The Simpsons.
The group served as the unofficial “house band” for The Simpsons for the season 10-12 period in which NRBQ fan Mike Scully was head writer and executive producer.
NRBQ allowed several of their songs to be used on The Simpsons, including “Mayonnaise and Marmalade”, written specifically for the show. The band also appeared in animated form as well as on camera during the end credits to perform the show’s theme song during the episode ‘Take My Wife, Sleaze’.
I Like That Girl was featured in season 12, in an episode titled Insane Clown Poppy.

Mark Knopfler – Cannibals
Golden Heart is the debut solo studio album by British singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler, released on 26 March 1996. “Cannibals” is the second single from the album. It is very similar in sound and structure to the hit single “Walk of Life”, also written by Knopfler. The song was the concert opener for the Kill to Get Crimson Tour in 2008.

Pointer Sisters – Jump (For My Love)
[May-27-17] Added:
Pointer Sisters – Neutron Dance
[May-11-17] Added:
Graced with one of his wife’s drawing of him, Spectral Mornings is the third release and the second post-Genesis album by British guitarist Steve Hackett.
The album is the first recording to feature Hackett’s first true touring band, consisting of his brother John Hackett on flute, guitar and bass pedals, long-time collaborator keyboardist Nick Magnus, bassist/vocalist Dik Cadbury, drummer John Shearer and vocalist Peter Hicks.
The dynamic and catchy ‘Every Day’ opens up the album in a very colorful way: with its lyrics presenting a pessimistic portrait of drug addiction with a deceitfully joyful mood, this track shows how one can address a serious issue with an inventive sense of fun in a rock context. The finale’s long guitar solo is one of the most captivating ones ever written by Hackett; it would be fair to point out that the rhythm section’s fortitude helps to provide an extra dose of energetic vibe to the closing section.

It is my pleasure to be able to include this review, by the inimitable samjjones. Thanks, Sam.
This week, the great Dash Riprock brings us four singles from 3 of mainstream music’s most popular acts. There is something for everybody here, and all four songs are a blast to play as full-band.
Billy Joel – Tell Her About It (1983)
Billy Joel’s “An Innocent Man” is one of the most underrated concept albums in music history. The album featured 10 original songs which served as “homages” to various eras of popular music. This week, Dash Riprock delivers the most popular single off of this album, “Tell Her About It”, which hit #1 in the U.S. The highlight of this track is the vocal lead part, which features Billy’s voice in his prime and lots of good slides. Guitar is very chordy and basic, but interplays well with the bass and keys. Drums are also lots of fun to play.
Sting – All This Time (1991)
Dash also produces the first of an “unofficial” Sting two-pack with “All This Time”. The lead single from “The Soul Cages”, this song hit #5 in the U.S. and #1 in Canada. This song has a great melody, nice little bass line and keys parts. The guitar is the strummiest of strum fests, and drums are very straightforward, but a good test for non-expert players. The vocals are pretty easy as far as Sting songs go, and it’s fun to sing.
Sting – Fortress Around Your Heart (1985)
Sting’s “Fortress Around Your Heart” was the third single off of his first solo album, “Dream of the Blue Turtles”. Dash brings us this song in all of it’s haunting glory, including Branford Marsalis sax charted to keys. If you like playing high hats, you’re in for a treat, and the bass part is simple and driving. The highlight of this song for me is the vocals…IMO, this song has the best chorus in any solo Sting song, and you’re going to be tempted to jump right into the high harmony part when singing. It’s a ton of fun to sing.

Charted by RyanHYK except Pro Keys/Keys/UnFade
Huey Lewis and the News became big in 1983 with the release of Sports, and now we bring you the fourth single off their 7x platinum album. Guitarists should be in for a real treat with quite a few solos throughout, though it’s singers that’ll get the biggest kick out of this with Huey’s signature pipes and those smooth doo-wop back-ups.

August 11, 2014 at 12:02 pm #426878Agreed! I especially would like “I Can Dream About You” as a full band song – I can just picture all the players doing the moonwalk to that “moving sidewalk” section…
August 12, 2014 at 2:45 am #426913I’d love to see a FB release for Blues Traveler!

More coming, but not until I judge them accurate.
I own a very long story… ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />
Short version: A TD-20X w/ a TD-30 brain.
The long version is much more interesting. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
One day, I’ll take the time to write it down.
August 17, 2014 at 5:07 pm #427274Tried a couple of your songs last night. At the end of a few songs there are notes charted but the songs have ended. I know One Headlight for sure, possibly Gigolo and can’t remember the other.
August 17, 2014 at 10:16 pm #427294The notes are there, with the headphones on…
I agree that I could sometimes end a measure or two earlier, but I try to chart what I hear. Nothing more, or less.
Bottom line is, fade-outs are ill-suited for Rock Band, but what’cha gonna do?
