100% gotta disagree on these. Though the Johnny Cash one I wouldn’t say is not as good. On the contrary I think it’s excellent and it compliments the NIN version very well. Same with his “Rusty Cage” cover. Definitely a different take on both those songs. Also with that being said i definitely agree with the Smash Mouth so we cool there. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Also, very rarely am I in full agreeance with a disagreeance, but sheesh, I may as well have written the above myself.

Big Yellow Taxi – Counting Crows (Joni Mitchell)

It’s My Life – No Doubt (Talk Talk)

Baby, I Love Your Way – Big Mountain (Peter Frampton)

I almost said Give a Little Bit – Goo Goo Dolls (Supertramp), but nah. The Supertramp version is better but I love both.

Life Is A HIghway – Rascal Flatts (Tom Cochrane)

Mrs Robinson – The Lemonheads (Simon and Garfunkel)
Boys Of Summer – The Ataris (Don Henley)
Come On Eileen – Save Ferris (Dexy’s Midnight Runners)

    Hard disagree on these lol

If this man is a troll, he’s doing excellent work.

    If he’s not…

    Ban him.

Forgot about this one! Nothing against Joni, but yeah, I love the CC version.

The fact that we all agree and disagree about different things, proves to me that all these covers are good covers, and it is interesting to see what things people like in songs more than others. Also I haven’t heard of most of these covers so I now have a huge list of songs to listen to, thanks for that, this is a good thread.

You know as much as I love The Goo Goo Dolls I actually really don’t care for this one. Definitely prefer the Supertramp version.

I also appreciate everyone going for the… correction of a certain S&G song. I actually have to admit Draiman’s vocals are absolutely stellar in their cover but the music tries way, way too hard to be emotional and ends up sounding like a tryhard, overproduced mess. The simplicity of the S&G version along with those wonderful harmonies beat out any cover, any time. Same with “Mrs. Robinson”. Or any other song they did.

At work today I was bouncing from place to place so I couldn’t really listen to any music… and during the lack of tunes, for some reason, Springsteen’s The River popped into my head. Then I remembered how I think I actually like The Clarks version even more, probably because I’ve seen it performed live by them a number of times. Then I remembered this thread. Then I remembered all the other Clarks covers. I don’t wanna say all of them are better, but they’re definitely better live. And I definitely prefer their version of No Matter What to the original! FIGHT ME!

Springsteen’s The River, but by The Clarks:

Badfinger’s No Matter What, but by The Clarks:

Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World, but by The Clarks:

Nick Lowe’s (or Elvis Costello’s) (What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding?, but by The Clarks:

I just remembered, there is in fact one cover I heard after the original, and still like better than the original… sort of? I mean… it’s… kind of an original? Okay, not really, but it’s meant to be what you’d hear if this song had in fact been written over 40 years prior…

Now, clearly it’s a throwaway joke, but… I dunno, there’s something here. A melancholy delivery of such inane lyrics captures how some people cling to routine hoping someday it will all mean something.

Yeah, I’m thinking too much about it. Either way, this is definitely more listenable than the original.

The reason no one brought him up was because the title was for covers better than the original. :b

I mostly kid but I can’t think of any of Manson’s covers being better actually. I think Sweet Dreams is kinda neat as he had a completely different take on it but like the original is gets boring super quickly.

The rest are just heavier versions of the original and don’t really offer much new or interesting except for that trademark Manson sound. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you like it but for my personal preference I prefer the originals.
