    11-9-2014 UPDATE

This update includes no new songs. Though all songs listed below have been re-compiled in Magma yesterday to their latest versions. This was done because I wanted to take advantage of TrojanNemo’s latest Magma update that creates unique song IDs so that you never lose your scores even after a cache delete. I hate seeing those scores disappear and I hope other authors decide to start using the Unique ID feature in Magma.

    Other updates include:

    – Updates to my latest charts. This applies only to the older customs. Over the last year I’ve went back in and fixed some stuff that I noticed while playing in game. These updates were never posted here, so this is the first time you’re seeing them.

    – Most of my earliest drum charts were horrible as I knew nothing about charting drums at that time. They’ve been updated with somewhat more accurate charts that were never posted here before.

    – None of these songs have encrypted audio now, so go ahead and convert them to Phaseshift or any other format that you want.

I’m sure there are some other minor improvements here and there, but bottom line is that anyone who had previous versions of these songs should re-download them.

    10-15-2014 UPDATE

What I am giving out here with this update are songs that I have been sitting on for a long time or songs that I have been working on and finished up recently. These are not polished like C3 customs. In fact, I think every one of these are first drafts and have not been updated since first being built in Magma.

Bottom line is that I do not intend to ever re-visit these. I thought I might clean them up for C3 releases eventually, but I just want to dump them all here and start with some fresh stuff. There’s really no reason to keep hoarding these so that only myself and the 4 other people I play with have access to them. That’s just being selfish.

All the songs here have everything a full band custom should have (except keys if that’s your thing — definitely not mine). What they’re missing is playtesting and polishing. There’s definitely sloppiness in some areas and some things matching my personal preference to be found, but overall these should all be fun to play. I know we’ve been having fun with them.

First up: Guitar Hero Van Halen songs that nobody knows. I believe these are the final six VH songs from the game that have not already been converted and released in some form. Honestly, I have always been a Van Hagar guy and never really gave DLR Van Halen a fair shot. I had heard all the radio hits and never really found too much to like. When I decided to try these out to see if they were worth converting I found that these songs were actually very good. After giving them a half dozen or so listens I realized that VH had actually done some pretty awesome stuff in the early 80’s beyond VHI & VHII (Romeo Delight was a VERY pleasant surprise for me). I definitely look more forward to playing these ones during Rock Band sessions now than I do the other “hits”. Give them a try if you’re not familiar with them, it will be worth it.

VAN HALEN – HANG ‘EM HIGH

VAN HALEN – HEAR ABOUT IT LATER

VAN HALEN – LOSS OF CONTROL

    VAN HALEN – MEAN STREET

    VAN HALEN – ROMEO DELIGHT

VAN HALEN – SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR

Next are pretty much the final five Guitar Hero songs that I had any interest in, but had yet to be converted. I am surprised that our resident GH conversion guys like Spindoctor, Nunchuck & Kemiroch never got to these or the VH songs above.

    ALICE COOPER – ELECTED

BOB SEGER & THE SILVER BULLET BAND – GET OUT OF DENVER

LYNYRD SKYNYRD – CALL ME THE BREEZE (LIVE)

SANTANA – NO ONE TO DEPEND ON (LIVE)

The next one is something I found in the Frets on Fire forums. I think it was Narutostarwars who charted this entire song. All I really did was convert it and put some Rock Band polish to it.

LED ZEPPELIN – TEN YEARS GONE

You can never have enough Alice Cooper. This “deep cut” from his early years is outstanding and goes great with one of the first customs I ever did, Be My Lover. Give this one and BML a try. Very much worth it.

ALICE COOPER – IS IT MY BODY

Last up is something I was planning on putting in a Van Hagar 5150 pack through C3, but in a combination of getting bored of charting the same band for that long of a stretch and absolutely loathing anything to do with keys, I quickly nixed the idea. But hey, at least I got Dreams completed enough so that I am happy playing it. It’s easily my favorite Van Halen song from their entire catalogue. Though I still don’t love it enough to ever revisit it…

    VAN HALEN – DREAMS

Final thing is that nobody should waste their time or finger energy typing complaints or recommended fixes for these songs as it will be ignored. If you see something in these charts that you do not like, go ahead and fix them yourself. It’s really not that hard. With all the tools & tutorials that the C3 Admins, C3 Authors and fellow forum members have provided you should all pretty much be able to put out something playable. There’s really no excuse any more.

So, if you’re not happy with something in the metadata, use C3 Con Tools and edit the songs.dta file yourself and re-save the file. If you are not happy that, for example, a Van Halen song has a stretch of double bass pedal, use C3 Con Tools to extract the midi, open it in Reaper, use CAT to remove notes, export the midi from Reaper and re-insert with C3 Con Tools and save. The same goes for anything else that you find that ruins your life because it’s not how you want it… It is a piece of cake to fix yourself. In the time it takes you to post your complaint you could’ve downloaded and installed C3 Con Tools or read through a section of Farottone’s awesome authoring tutorial.

It’s all really that easy. Nobody should ever have a reason to recommend someone to change something in their custom unless the author asks for it. Everything in this update is exactly how I want it on my Xbox and that’s the way it will stay.

Now that I’ve typed the above I think I probably am coming off as a bit of a prick, but I’ve never really claimed to be otherwise, so oh well.

    PREVIOUS RELEASES

BLACK SABBATH – CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE

    IRON MAIDEN – MOTHER RUSSIA

    HUFF ‘N DOBACK – BOATS ‘N HOES

ALICE COOPER – BE MY LOVER

THERION – SON OF THE STAVES OF TIME

LED ZEPPELIN – ROCK AND ROLL

The majority of the charting for Rock and Roll was converted from a chart at Frets on Fire by author narutostarwars123456, I just changed some things up to make it fit my style. Thanks to him for all the work he’s put in making Zeppelin charts.

Love me some more classic rock. Looking forward to trying this out.

      You forgot the drum fills.

      You forgot the drum fills.

I wouldn’t say I “forgot” the fills. I just ignored them. I didn’t know they were ever actually used. People I’ve played with always turned them off saying they got in the way of playing the song. I can add them on to the chart if people want them.

Lots of people play with them on — I would consider them a necessity if you’re authoring overdrive.

People can turn the fills off, not the activations. The game with fills turned off is not a version without activations, is a version with activations done with a single gem with no free fills. If you don’t author those fills, players won’t be able to activate OD, which defies the purpose of having OD phrases in the first place.

Understood. I’ll add the fills. Not being someone who ever really plays the drums I figured you could still activate OD without them there. I could’ve sworn I saw OD phrases (glowing white notes) when I was watching it in the preview window. Oh well, it’s an easy fix.

What else did I botch? I know the song starts before the 3rd measure, but I didn’t want to risk messing up the tempo map when I imported it into the C3 template.

overdrives are there but there’s nothing to activate them.

Can I get away with just authoring the one green gem to activate overdrive sequence, or do I need to put long tubes there for the entire fill section?

You don’t author the gem, the gem is just the first note *after* the fill.

Not being someone who ever really plays the drums..

You have to hit like three notes in the fill in order to turn on the green gem that activates OD.

I guess without the fill lane you get no opportunity to hit those notes to turn it on?

              #407581

Edited the OP with the new version, now with drum fills. I tested it in game (what a concept!) and verified that overdrive on drums can now be activated.

Sorry to all who now have to re-download the song. At least you can now enjoy a “karaoke” version of the song that I decided to add after realizing I would have to revisit the project to add drum fills.

This isn’t a huge issue, but for anyone who downloaded the other 7 Led Zep customs (and who didn’t?), “Rock and Roll” isn’t listed with the same album name with the other 2 songs from Led Zeppelin IV (you labeled it as just “IV”).

Personally, I’m kind of obsessive with album sorting. If you ever release another version, it’d be great if you could fix it. I realize that I could probably use some LeFluffie magic to relabel it myself, but I’ve never been able to successfully run LF on my machine…
