I’m back again with another release for you guys!! I’ve been holding on to this one for a while and even though I’ve got a lot on my plate, this will get done eventually as I progress through my list. So I decided to make this after looking at a pack idea that TheSheepQueen made and took initiative from that. My list is very mixed bag of genres and bands so there’s something for everyone here. Hope you all enjoy the 1st pack of my Customs Alphabet Pack:

Very cool getting Torch Song. AFI is so awesome!

The releases so far are mind-blowingly (not a word I’d assume but bare with me) awesome! I am stoked to get around to all of these!

Just the quickest of notes to say a collective thank you to everyone for their efforts during this event. I’ve not been able to play RB for waaaaay too long but am enjoying picking up some of these amazing customs and reading through the write-ups, watching the vids, etc. I will be dropping my coin appropriately and can’t wait to see what else is in the pipeline.

            Surprise!

I know you’ve expected Vrey – don’t worry, he’ll be up soon – but in the meantime, here’s another song for you!

            Q2spRuu.jpg

When “The Whole of the Moon” was released, it wasn’t initially a big success. But gradually it worked itself to a legendary status, and now it’s not only The Waterboys best known song, it’s a huge classic – covered by everyone from Prince, to the Killers and Fiona Apple (whose version appears in the show “The Affair”).

The Waterboys are a very interesting band, with a sound that ranges from Celtic-tinged folk-rock to widescreen alternative anthems – this song definitely belongs to the latter category. An epic song inspired by Prince (who ended up covering it), “The Whole of the Moon” mixes a classic but not cheesy 80’s sound, with trumpets, saxophone and musical layers. Nobody’s really sure who it was written about – Songwriter Mike Scott said “It’s not a specific person. It’s more a type. The point of the song was to illustrate how much more there could be to learn than we had ever guessed. And so, I used that format of songwriting, as if addressing a more knowledgeable or wise being”, but later said it “might be” about Jimi Hendrix or Syd Barrett, so who knows?

Anyway, it’s a classic song and an absolute blast to play in RB. So have fun with it!

Hello, everyone. TheWay123 and I have been working together to create a pack for Chart-a-Thon revolving around videogames, and so we proudly present the “SNES Video Game Music Pack”. It’s exactly what it says on the tin. Here are selections of music from various games on the Super Nintendo, with multitracks of course!

To kick off this pack, we have:

              RNeFh1g.jpg
Super Mario World Overworld Theme – Koji Kondo (from Super Mario World)

              Download!

Because it would practically be a crime not to include this song in a SNES oriented pack! Keys play the iconic steel drum melody, guitar plays accompaniment, bass swiftly plays along on the tuba, and drums are absent until the second loop when the Yoshi bongos come in. Fun for the whole family!

              All parts authored by VreyIsGrey

              I3j7dh7.jpg
Pokey Means Business – Hirokazu Tanaka (from Earthbound)

              Download 1x!

              Download 2x!

This classic from the Earthbound series starts off with an eerie 8-bit chiptune intro, but then shifts into gear in a 16-bit metal-oriented thrash banger. Drums will really give your foot a challenge!

Instruments and venue authored by TheWay123
EMH, overdrive, and events authored by VreyIsGrey

              gmxJnLQ.jpg
Filmore – Yuzo Koshiro (from Actraiser)

              Download!

I’ll admit I don’t really know anything about the game and I didn’t take part in charting this, but it looks to be a fun challenge on all instruments, including keys.

Instruments and EMH authored by TheWay123
Venue, overdrive, and events authored by Oddbrother

And that concludes this release. We’ve got enough songs for a second pack, maybe we’ll do another one. Who knows?

Hey everyone. It has come to my attention that the 1x version of Pokey Means Business had a song ID conflict with one of my other releases. If you downloaded this custom, please redownload it. Here is the fixed version.

This is it! This is my last release for chart-a-thon. It’s been a lot of hard work, a lot of fun, but most of all, very rewarding to participate in something that is continuing to raise awareness for a great cause. I can only hope you found something amongst all my releases that you had fun playing and, if so, don’t forget to donate! =-)

                  On to my last release!

Of course, I had to save some indie love for the end. This indie band is no stranger to rhythm games, and rock band in particular, already having a couple of releases (Swim and Floating Vibes) as part of the rock band network when it was around in full swing. I now present to you…

                  Surfer Blood – Island

                  49146929508_1b00776d45.jpg

                  DOWNLOAD LINK | VIDEO PREVIEW

Mostly obscure to the public, Island is a musical pictorial of dealing with struggle and regret. Even though lyrically it paints this picture, auditorily it resembles upbeat pop music. What drew me here was the long breakdown and shift in music about halfway through, allowing some variety within the song on the instruments. While vocals take a break, the other band members get to experiment a bit with their sounds and add some interest for a stretch. I find it quite fun on drums. It’s not challenging, yet it’s very engaging.

If you download this song, why not log it as part of your tally of songs from this event and consider giving at least the $10 minimum at chartathon.com.

                  Song Count: 229

NEXT UP! Once again I find myself introducing Yaniv297, but this time with fellow charter HighFlyingBirds. I can’t give everything away, but what I can say is this artist was a rock star, movie star and broadway performer, and already well represented in game.

After finishing up on “Disintegration”, it’s time to move to yet another huge classic of alternative rock – David Bowie’s “Low“!

Low” is first album of the “Berlin Trilogy” (despite the fact that it was mostly recorded in France), where Bowie famously worked with Brian Eno, alongside his usual producer Tony Visconti.

Back in 1977, Bowie was trying to fight his cocaine addiction, and decided to leave Los Angeles. Alongside Iggy Pop, the pair settled down in Berlin, where he was relatively anonymous. In Berlin, he became interested in the German music scene, which was flourishing with bands like Tangerine Dream, Neu! and Kraftwerk. Particularly, he became a friend of Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream, who introduced him to the local music scene. This was a major influence on this record, alongside the ambient music of Brian Eno.

Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, “Low” is now regarded as a stone cold classic, and among Bowie’s finest moments – if not the finest. Pitchfork Magazine have named it the best album of the 70’s. NME named it the 14th best album of all time, Q magazine named it the 14th best British album ever (even though not a single note of it was recorded in England).

This will not be a full album release. If you know “Low“, you know the second part of it will simply not work in Rock Band – a series of experimental, ambient pieces. But the first side, is experimental rock at his best – a few amazingly tight, catchy, weird and brilliant rock songs, dubbed “the sound of Sinatra reproduced by Martian computers” by NME. Also, the band on it is really awesome, as you’re going to experience. So I’m happy to present the complete first side of “Low”. And if you stick around, there’s a little surprise in the end!

Many thanks to HighFlyingBirds and MrPrezident for assisting on those!

                    4iEMBwe.jpg

Charted by HighFlyingBirds and Yaniv297 (but mostly him, I just did keys and tempo map…)

This opening instrumental sets the tune for the album perfectly. The sound of the rock and roll band, mixed with the cold, futuristic synths of Bowie and Eno. It’s a great instrumental with a catchy guitar hook and some really solid drums and bass and great synths.

                    jSgXWLU.jpg

This one is a weird little fucker. On surface, a straightforward rock song – beneath, anything but. Almost everything is weird on this song, from the tight, bass heavy drum beat, to the weird guitars, Bowie’s half-talking vocals that doesn’t seem to be in a particular time, and weird backing vocals that are rarely in sync with the lead vocal. All of it was very difficult to chart. And yet, it’s a perfectly catchy rock song! How did they do it…?

                    Ipk7Uu8.jpg

Thanks MrPrezident for Vocals, and HighFlyingBirds for helping with the guitar solos

My favorite out of the bunch. It was actually among the first songs I’ve ever charted – drum only at the time – and now it finally gets the well-deserved full band treatment. Influenced by Dylan, Bowie tells the tale of always making the same mistakes over and over. Featuring two awesome guitar solos, and some brilliant playing from everybody.

                    p1dJCq5.jpg

                    Charted by HighFlyingBirds and Yaniv297

The second single from the record, “Be My Wife” is probably the most traditional of the bunch. The lyrics are relatively straight forward – a love song – and this is the least electronic song on the record. Includes some groovy bass and great piano playing.

                    CkpNTxD.jpg

The bridge between the two sides of the record – “A New Career” still features a rock band, but it’s very heavy on analog synths. The title obviously refers to Bowie’s new home in Berlin. This is a great, groovy and slightly-creepy instrumental that closes the first side, foreshadowing what’s to come on the other side.

                    “Low” – Side A completed:

                    1. Speed of Life

                    2. Breaking Glass

                    3. What in the World

                    4. Sound and Vision (thanks grubextrapolate and Jimi369!)

                    5. Always Crashing in the Same Car

                    6. Be My Wife

                    7. A New Career in a New Town

But wait, I’ve promised a surprise, didn’t I? Well, here’s another song, that honestly I can’t quite believe wasn’t done already.

                    BZmTIQj.jpg

                    Thanks MrPrezident for the vocals!

Edit: totally forgot we’ve made a video preview for it, so here it is!

And because we all love setlists (well I do), here’s a recommended, 26-songs setlist by Bowie! Roughly based on the “Reality” tour setlists, especially the concept of the Ziggy-encore, while living in an alternate universe where Blackstar and The Next Day already existed. Sadly I couldn’t include all the Bowie we have – too many songs! – so feel free to swap for your favorites if I missed them.

                              The Breeders “Saints”
With the platinum success of 1993’s Last Splash for the Breeders, orignally formed as a side project for Pixies bassist Kim Deal, the band quickly became her primary recording outlet.
“Saints” is an upbeat song about a summer country fair that Kim and her sister Kelly attended as children, where they enjoyed a performance by “Sooey and the Saints”.

Spoon “Don’t Make Me a Target”
The opening track from their sixth studio album, “Don’t Make Me a Target” was originally written for the previous album “Gimme Fiction” but the song was shelved after many unsuccessful attempts to find a suitable arrangement. Returning to the song after a year, drummer Jim Eno found a more reverb-laden sound for the percussion, and the song was finally done.
“Target” contains many subtle references to President George W. Bush (the man from the stars) and is in fact a politically charged song, specifically about the rise in international aggression towards the United States and the increasing culture divide, in turn creating a dangerous environment for the American people abroad. It’s the actions of the political leaders that are ‘making him a target’.

So this is my last pack that I’ll be contributing towards Chart-a-Thon, I figured doing them all in succession would be easier for me since I’ve got a lot going on atm. I’m very happy to say that this pack was a lot of fun to make, I really need to give some love to Bansheeflyer for helping out with the guitar and drum charts for all of these songs. We were put under quite a restraint with time due to my holidays but we pulled it together just for you. Hope you all enjoy what we’ve mustered together:
