Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric looks like a boring, copy/paste license game that you’d expect from the Gamecube era. You go around jumping, doing light puzzles, and beating up waves of the same enemies over and over, from the footage I saw. The characters are also sort of annoying; Knuckles trying to be the stupid comic relief, but the jokes are horrible, and Amy being written as intentionally annoying.

Went and watched the cartoon as well, because I also hear it’s terrible. And honestly… it’s just “meh.” Aside from an out-of-nowhere, past-the-radar sex joke (essentially Sonic telling Tails to “get some grandkids”) there’s nothing worth noting here. I didn’t really laugh once at the pilot episode, but I also didn’t feel like it was offensively bad, either. It’s just… there.

Just thought I’d share my thoughts on it, since it was brought up.

The way I feel about the new Sonic Boom cartoon is the same way I feel about the new Digimon cartoon.

I actually have a script for a episode that I am going to send to SEGA that involves the main characters being launched back in time (about 4,000 years back) to a destroyed-by-nuclear bomb New York City on April 11, 2031 (which in the future became Empire City). It involves them learning about the true past of their world and seeing that civilizations can rise and fall again and create new futures (of course, there would still be some jokes but not as bad as the first two episodes. One in which Sonic shouts when they are being sent back in time, he shouts a clear reference to the 1960’s TV show, The Time Tunnel, or another one in which the nuclear war, shown in past scenes as WWIII, is only referred to by the public as “The Great Mistake”, a nod at Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth.). Of course, as any good post-nuclear war fiction, it shows the world from space as devastated from a outer space shot, that shows that the land has become a scorched black color and the oceans are literally glowing from radiation. It wouldn’t win any awards or anything but I feel proud of myself for making a hour-long special script that makes sense.

I bought the Sega Humble Bundle. It came with Sonic Generations and the racing game. Are they any good? I was already familiar with the other games but hadn’t played the ones mentioned.

They’re probably the best recent sonic games.

I also want to point out that I have a thread on Steam explaining the Sonic timeline, so that should tie all the loose ends.
