I just downloaded and extracted the latest Magma (C3 Roks Edition v3.3.2). It ran fine at first… But I cannot import any CON files into it. I have tried many different songs (some are/were C3 releases, some weren’t). All come up with the same error:
Can’t find songs.dta in the file!
I can’t work without it, sorry
Any way to fix this?
or is there an alternative to get a midi out of a CON?Found alternative in the CON ToolsNovember 1, 2015 at 8:59 pm #458603I actually ran into this same issue earlier today. Anybody have any advice on this?
Louey it looks like you have have found this already, but yes you can use the CON Explorer to extract data files from it (midi, mogg, etc). Not sure how that will help the con import in Magma, though.

November 1, 2015 at 9:45 pm #458606I just tried with 5 randomly selected customs and all 5 worked perfectly well.
Do you have the latest version of Magma: C3?
Do you have it installed somewhere other than C:, C:Program Files, C:Program Files (x86) and C:Windows?

Downloaded Magma C3 (v3.3.2) from here today: http://pksage.com/ccc/IPS/index.php?/topic/9257-magma-c3-roks-edition-v332-072815/page-1
Installation instructions said not to put it in Program Files, so I put it in my own projects folder on the Desktop. At your suggestion, I tried moving it into Program Files, and upon trying to run it was presented with a message saying I had to move it out. I moved it onto C:, then tried importing, same error message. I also tried upwards of 10 different tracks to make sure it wasn’t just the one, and they all come up with the error. I have confirmed already that the songs.dta files are in these con files.
I am running Windows 10. Think maybe that could be the problem? I still have a Windows 7 OS I could try running it on…
November 1, 2015 at 10:10 pm #458609The point is NOT to install it to C: at all if possible, anywhere that requires elevated permissions will likely cause problems.
But I’m running Windows 10 and it works perfectly well for me, so it’s not a OS issue.
November 1, 2015 at 10:16 pm #458612Right right. That’s what I thought. I guess I misunderstood your question from before. So yes, I have it running from a folder on my Desktop, and no matter which CON I import I get this same error.
I did have the old Magma installed already, and that IS in program files. Should I uninstall that? I guess I probably should either way since the C3 version looks way better.

November 2, 2015 at 5:52 am #458639I’m having this exact problem. Every CON file I import gives me the same “Can’t find songs.dta” error no matter what CON file I use. I’m using the latest version of Magma: C3 and it’s in my desktop. Running Windows 10 as well, but I guess we’ve established that that doesn’t matter.
November 2, 2015 at 3:13 pm #458654Here’s an idea. Right click and run as administrator. You won’t be able to drag/drop a CON to import it, but you can go to File -> Import and find the option to import it. See if that works? I got no idea since it all works so beautifully on my end.
November 2, 2015 at 4:09 pm #458659Here’s the deal for me, using v3.3.2 under Win7…
File|Import|CON will ALWAYS give the missing songs.dta error (no matter the admin mode).
If you run WITHOUT administrator rights, dragging a CON into the window WILL work.

That’s the only way I ever test it, since I don’t see why you would not want to drag/drop. But in theory both call the same function so there should not be a difference. But I haven’t looked at this source in a very long time.
