    C3X Week 9 – P3: Pop-Punk Pack

Panic at the Disco is a bit of a stretch to call Pop-Punk, but their earliest work incorporates many of the hallmarks of the genre with the band’s own personal style. The Only Difference was the band’s first single, and it’s about them getting big. Kinda funny to think about, but one single later, their wish was fulfilled.

New Found Glory is basically the sound of modern Pop-Punk. Their style influenced so many other bands that came after them. In 2004, the band scored one of their biggest hits in All Downhill From Here. The first single off of their album Catalyst, it’s one of the band’s most joyous songs.

Cartel isn’t as popular as Panic at the Disco or New Found Glory, but they found their place in the realm of Pop-Punk in 2005 when they released their biggest hit, Honestly. A song about the singer’s ex-girlfriend and his feelings about their relationship, it’s one that’s easy to get stuck in your head.

This next song is brought to you by MrPrezident:

40 years ago, Richard Hell & the Voidoids cut a masterpiece with “Blank Generation” a song that is without any doubt, the quintessential punk anthem. Inspired by the Rimbaud poem “A Season in Hell”, young Richard Meyers moved to New York to become a beat poet and instead became a punk rock legend, known for forming punk-rock prototypes Neon Boys (1968), who later became the band Television (1973) until he recruited guitarists Robert Quine and Ivan Julian, and drummer Marc Bell and formed the Voidoids (Marc would shortly reinvent himself as the one and only Marky Ramone).

The Voidoids were the punk rock trend setters of the 70’s. They were the among first punk bands to adopt stage names, Richard Hell kept the monikker thoughout the remainder of his recording career. They were the first to rip their clothes and pin them back together. The first to spike their hair. Richard Hell was the King of Manhattan’s lower east side for over a decade. But as for being the voice of a ___ generation, Hell says “I can take it or leave it”.

I hope you enjoy this pack as much as I enjoyed making it!
