Can we expect in any keys charts for songs from Rock Band 1/2 soon? I was really excited when I saw that one of the other/mini projects you guys were doing was getting keys into all applicable RB1/2 songs but there was really only that initial release of 5 songs and nothing since

It’s coming just wait a little longer

The two folks ‘running’ that project have gotten bogged down in some other stuff, but I have gotten some other submissions that I have queued up. Those same two dudes were kind of my go-tos for a first pass of keys submissions, too, so, cascade effect. There were also some other ‘planned’ keys charts that were delayed or had problems that got in the way.

I was busy getting some other releases done and dealing with RL stuff and didn’t have a chance to test/playtest the keys parts on top of authoring/testing/recording 20 harmony parts. I’m trying to make time to trickle a couple of these out a release, at least, though it also adds moar time because I’m trying to revisit the harmony charts and I have to capture video for those too.

Basically I don’t have time to record 20-30 videos a release (the extras come up if I have to do keys/pro drums), capture audio (~10-15m per song, if I’m being generous) and author (10m-2h, depending) 20 harmony charts, and playtest (or at least REAPER test) 5 pro keys + keys charts in three weeks, so I’ve focused on the core and will hopefully be able to power through some ‘softer’ charts so I can get back to keys stuff.

Unfortunately, nearly every harmony part I’ve tried to author over the last two releases has been exceptionally time consuming.

Edit: Oh, plus I was trying to sponsor a Show Room track and I have a themed customs pack that is about 11 months overdue, so, you know.

First and foremost, let me start of with this: not a Bob Marley fan at all. Now, granted, I dislike a whole lot of the artists and songs I’ve had to upgrade, and I will dislike many more, but after this release, there is a special place in my hall of hatred for this album. Not all of it is related to the album itself.

Just after the last release (at the end of August), I dove right into the next one to try and power through it. By that Sunday I had finished (or at least almost finished) a number of the tracks in this release, with the exception of most of that album. I was well on my way to being nice and ahead of schedule. And then we got a run of warm weather and my video card + fan started acting up, preventing me from reliably working on stuff (I have a full machine upgrade planned for this fall, now that the 9xx series was announced, but that’s another story). Mildly inconvenient, it just tightly compressed my time schedule. Of course, that meant that when things were up and running (and because I’d left it for last), I just got to fit more Bob Marley into the chunks of free time I had each day. And, of course, being Bob Marley, the harmonies aren’t always blocks and even the ones that are blocks don’t line up exactly because he sings at his own cadence and tempo. And also several of the songs are stupidly long (EXODUS!!!). And there are often more than three parts. I was ready to tear my hair out by the time I got halfway through the album (ask the other admins, to whom I was graciously willing to give a daily “I hate Bob Marley” update).

Given that consideration, it would be that point in time that I stumbled upon the fact that we don’t actually have clean stems for the half of the album that I have left, so I ended up having to author harmonies for several songs out of a full mix by toggling different parts on and off to try and hear things clearly… and I also had to record stems for other instruments for the songs I had to record myself (fortunately bluzer had the bulk of the album in Phase Shift format).

tl;dr: I basically spent way too much time in the past week and a half repeatedly listening to real-time and slowed down weirdly distorted snippets of overly long Bob Marley songs trying to figure out which part I should chart and if the pitch I’m hearing is the right pitch or whether I’m inferring the existence of a buried part that is not there based on bleed from other parts while hoping my computer didn’t overheat and reboot on me between autosaves.

But it’s okay, because it’s here, and it was on time, and I never have to author another Marley harmony again. :excited:

(Seriously, though, if something seems off, I am open to feedback and suggestions… and keep in mind that on some tracks instead of authoring a high H2 that mirrors H1 I authored two other parts to H2/H3.)

Yeah, I figured this would be one of the harder albums to chart because of the low audio quality, especially on No Woman No Cry and Redemption Song (although that obviously was never going to have harmonies). Nevertheless, this is a bloody great week.

Sorry dude. If only the album had been released a couple weeks later, with RB3 features, you could’ve been spared the torment.

Personally, I like some Marley, but I’m sick of most of the Legend stuff, since those are the songs stations use to be able to say, “see, we play reggae too!”

After watching Espher’s video guide on installing the upgrades I finally decided to give this a try. Tested this out in a Title Update 5 environment online and it works. Played a few setlists with friends online that didnt have any upgrades and you can still play with them. Of course the people who don’t have the upgrades cannot see the harmonies on their screen but it still works!

Hey there espher… Great job on the Harmonies Project. I’ve been a fan of this type of thing (and all types of customs really) since the Guitar Hero 2 on PS2 days. lol. Shows you how far back I go with these games… I need to fill you in on my progress on trying to get the Upgrades to work properly.

I have had some issues, and sorted a few out, but there’s a few I can’t figure out how to make them work under TU5 with an online profile.

I followed the steps another member shared here in this thread, and a few times, I forgot to copy the tricked Song Cache to the HDD. Whoops. Once I did that, and left the USB with the Dummy file in the USB port til the final build was complete, about 50% of the upgrades I installed, worked. The others, no pro/marmonies tracks, but the songs are still playable. Not sure where the problem lies.

I tried for 6 hours on my offline Xbox, under TU4 and TU5, with no luck. Switched over to my main Xbox, and had more success. But I will provide you a list of songs below that I can’t get working. Also, I am not trying to use Harmonies and Pro Guitar or Keys on the same song. I read that disclaimer in the documentation. Here’s that list:

                  Harmonies:

                  Creed – Higher (RBN)

Five Finger Death Punch – Hard to See (RBN)

Seether – Fake It and Rise Above This (RBN)

                  Keys:

Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams (GDR:cool:

Avenged Sevenfold – Critical Acclaim (DLC 2008)

                  Incubus – Dig (Lego)

                  Journey – Don’t Stop Believing (DLC 2009)

Rob Zombie – Dragula (DLC 2009)

Bryan Adams – Summer of ’69 (Lego)

Europe – The Final Countdown (Lego)

                  Pro Guitar:

Foreigner – Blue Morning, Blue Day (DLC 2009)

I do have all of these songs purchased, legally. Been playing all of these for years. Just with I could get some upgrades to work with them. I have a feeling it might have something to do with all of these originally being from the old RB1 file set. Not for sure, I know Boulevard of Broken Dreams is. I was trying to see if I could somehow merge the Upgrades and Songs .dta files into the song pack, but I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know coding or programming all that well, especially for game files, but I know enough about the RB3 file structure to be able to compile customs from already created files. But that’s about it. I was using C3 Con Tools for decompiling and trying to merge the upgrades with the old songs. But quit while I was behind. lol.

I don’t know if the dtas are compatible with the RB1 and RBN1 songs, but I imagine they are. But I can’t figure out how to make them work. The programs I am using mainly to get the upgrades to my Xbox are the packager, downloaded the newest file set last night, and I’m using Party Buffalo. I know those enough now, after using Modio mostly at first for moving Customs from the main C3 site to my Xbox for TU4 customs playing. Any ifo would be helpful. But if I can’t play these upgrades with the files I have, then I’ll play the hell out of the others that do play. Thought you should know these may be a problem. Unless it’s just me. lol. Keep up the good work! :c00l:

I put up two YouTube videos that go over the install process:

                    Part I:

                    (covers pre-Xbox stuff)

                    Part II:

                    (covers the Xbox steps)

Ostensibly, if you’re getting half of the upgrades, you should be getting all of them, assuming all of your DLC is in the same place, so I’m a little perplexed. I wouldn’t mess with any sort of merging or C3 CON Tools use unless you’re going offline-only. Make sure there are no pre-existing song cache files, just in case.

Those songs all work for me atm, though I can’t test the Foreigner PG upgrade since I have no PG.

                    #429775

I’m pretty sure Hard to See by 5FDP doesn’t have an upgrade for harmonies yet just Pro Drums

                    #429789

H3ADSh0t3, you’re right. I misplaced that one. I was getting very tired at the point I posted that post. So I will go through and try that one again, as I was only looking at the Harmonies in the song select screen for that one…

I checked 3 times after the last post, and tried 3 more times since. I do it every time without any song cache files in the initial updating. I let the game create new “dummy” cache files. I don’t know why they aren’t working, I can’t put my finger on it. But the upgrades for Boulevard and the others worked (kind of) with TU4, it’d show they were there in TU4 with white album cover. Then After doing the full cache build, the songs would all disappear off of my list. I tried it different ways… If I got the upgrades to stay after the full build under TU4, if I update to TU5 within the game, would the upgrades still be there?

I haven’t tried that yet, as it takes about 20 minutes per full cache build. 630 content pieces, and a slower than normal Xbox… I will try some other steps to see if there’s something I am missing. I don’t think there is, but at the time I gave up for the night/morning, I was way tired, so it’s possible I missed something. I’ll let you know what I find.

The same TU should be used for each of the first three cache builds/loads (RBHP only, RBHP + DLC, first load after deleting dummy), at least. Are you saying this behaviour happens with TU4 > TU4 or only TU4 > TU5?

If the files are showing up after the first build but disappearing after you introduce your DLC, the likely suspects to me are either a cache file /somewhere/ (though you’re sure there’s not), the DLC being upgraded still existing in your file system (i.e. the HDD is still connected during Build #1, which I’m assuming it is not), or a TU or profile mismatch (I’ve done it fine w/ different profiles but the TUs are definitely an issue). Once the cache is ‘built’ switching TUs shouldn’t matter.

If we have the same TU, same profile, and no cache, following the steps in Part II of the vid should get you a playable game (and really 20 minutes seems ridiculously slow). It’s tough for me to say without seeing exactly the steps taken since, as described, everything sounds right.

                      #429800

I may have exaggerated on the 20 minutes. 10 maybe. But I finally found my problem. And it’s all because I had those DLC packs in the Rock Band folder on my pen drive. I deleted the Rock Band folder so I didn’t have any dlc left on the pen drive, success. How stupid I was on that. lol. But I was using the same TU, TU5 that is with the Games on Demand version (downloaded) of the game.

But it’s working fine now. And this time, I updated all songs I have that are in the master upgrade pack, making sure I used only one update for each song. I upgraded Keys first. Then Pro Guitars, then Harmonies and Pro drums. On the harmonies part, if it stated to replace a folder/file in the destination folder, I skipped them all. All is well now. I apologize for any stress I might have caused, for it was a simple solution that I didn’t think would’ve affected it. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next batch of updates and beyond.

Edit: Just playing some of these on keys, I found 1 issue with Don’t Stop Believing. I don’t know if this was mentioned or not, but there’s no overdrive charted in it for keys. Figured you’d like to know if you didn’t already. If fixed, cool. If not, I understand somewhat how hard it could be to re-chart it with overdrive. Not that I could do it, cause I know I can’t. lol
