Any way to fully back up and slim down my song library?

So I have a library of songs has gone from mostly unmanageable pre-customs, to completely unmanageable at this point. The karaoke book tool is super awesome, but it’s still full of a bunch of stuff that I know no one cares about.

Now, I can go in and delete all the cruft, and that’ll actually make browsing my library an exercise in “oh maybe this oh maybe this” rather than “nope nope nope maybe”….but I hate actually deleting stuff. Even stuff that I probably don’t ever want to play again.

So…is there a way to do a full backup of my library so that I can feel comfortable deleting things? I’m guessing I can copy off all the RB1/2/Lego exports onto a stick/drive. And probably DLC too. And obviously customs. But probably not RB3, right? And a bunch of those imports are in a “pack” on disk, is it possible to delete just a single song out of them?

Is this a job for the venerable Le Fluffie? Maybe I leave all the files there but remove them from the song cache so they don’t show up?

Everything that is on your Xbox HDD can be copied to your computer. I would strongly recommend the usb transfer cable that Microsoft sells you. You can buy it at any Gamestop or similar game store for $20 or less. Use Party Buffalo to copy everything. LeFluffie can batch rename everything into something that makes sense, as well as sort by source and even whether the songs are expert only or not.

As far as deleting things. You can’t remove individual songs from packs or exports in game. You can do it with LeFluffie’s Quick Pack Editor. There is no way to do that kind of thing by editing the cache since we don’t know how to edit it manually as far as I know.

While you’re doing that consider packaging your loose DLC and small packd into bigger packs. For things like official dlc and rbn content, that is not likely to be updated, you can package them in 4gb packs. I have all official dlc in 14 4gb packs and all my rbn dlc in one 4gb pack. That’s 18 files loaded at runtime rather than 1000+.

All of the above can be done with LeFluffie.

Awesome, yeah I have one of those usb transfer cables from when my old 360 red-ringed.

Looks like I have a project for tomorrow while watching football. Thanks!

Just a heads up since I don’t know how obvious this may be.

If you modify any official DLC (ie LIVE) files, LeFluffie will autoconvert to CON and you got to put it in the same folder as customs, not where you got it from.

That goes to say that anything you modify on LeFluffie will no longer work on TU5 even if it did before.

Also, you can put all files from all pre RB3 games and exports in the RB3 folder and it will still work fine. So that’s another way to stay organized.

Those are some useful things to consider. Might have to clean up my songs soon.

I can’t seem to find my RB3 songs anywhere — everything else I think I’ve found, RB1/2/Lego/GreenDay etc. But no RB3 files.

Also, once I’ve got my library all trimmed down and re-packaged up (holy crap Le Fluffie is awesome), can I just tell RB3 to use the files entirely off my USB stick (since at that point it’ll have ALL my content that I want to load)?

You can. As long as the content is on the RB3 folder on your USB, it’s all the same to the game. You can have (and I do sometimes) content in the hard drive, the internal storage, and a usb, and the game will load it all.

And if you’re referring to the in-game songs, no you can’t edit those. Those are part of the game files. Sorry for any confusion there.

Will RB3 songs work if stored in the RB1/RB2 save game folders? TIA

Thanks to this thread, I have been doing a long overdue clean up on my songs. I did presume you can’t do anything with the on disc RB3 songs and thats ok.

Cleaning up RB1, 2, Lego and especially Green Day RB, I mean I love GD as much as the next guy but damn thats a lot of songs.

One question, the tracks from my Lego RB export have been converted to CON’s but some tracks (2 so far) the album art doesn’t appear in game, its just the generic RB logo. However the album art does appear in LeFluffie and on the file on my xbox storage, any ideas?

          No.

So I’m back to working on this, I’ve extracted all the files from my HD that I can find, slimmed them down, renamed them to something human-readable using LeFluffie, and am ready to move the updated content onto a stick while removing them from the HD.

Deleting stuff from my HD makes me a little nervous, so I just started by removing one RB1 song (Black Hole Sun), and yep it’s gone from my library in-game, then I put it back on my customs stick….and it doesn’t show up in my library. Do I need to force a songcache update or something? Is there anything else I need to do?

Black Hole Sun was blocked under TU4, so if you’re running it under TU4 environment you need to modify the .dta to change the short name (the name at the beginning) and the song id. You probably also want to get a copy of the on-disc updated .mid and replace the drum chart so that you have pro drums.

Haha so for my test case I basically picked the one song that was blocked under TU4? Nice.

e: Hm, I’m not sure that’s my problem. Does this work for DLC too? I removed a Flight of the Conchords song from my HD and put it on my USB drive, and it’s not showing up in my library either.

To confirm, you’re running under TU4 and the packages are in CON format? They’re in the Saved Game folder and not the Marketplace Content folder?

              #411773

Well the tree structure of your RB files on your XBOX Hdd is as follow :

              RB folder Content00000000000000045410829

              RB2 folder Content00000000000000045410869

              RB3 folder Content00000000000000045410914

All you need to know is that con files go in “00000001” (Saved Game) subfolders (inside the above folders) and unaltered dlc files go in “00000002” (Marketplace Content) subfolders.

Use Le Fluffie to know whether your file is an RB, RB2 or RB3 file and a con or a live file, and you’ll know where to put your file to make it work.

Or you can use FATXplorer to drag and drop your files from/to your hdd, since the program sort the files by himself.
