    Hello internet people!

I’m currently finishing up my first custom, and it’s pretty much OK in my opinion except for the animations during all sections in 7/8 time. They go bananas. Super fast. I’ve tried searching the forums and it might have to do with the BEATS track? The venue chart (automated with slight changes) also has a bunch of [next] text events (I think they are for lighting??) closely together during the 7/8, tried to remove some but I don’t think they do anything to affect that.

Can you just cut out half of the down beats in the BEATS track during the 7/8 or will that mess up something else? Just wanted to check in so I don’t do anything silly. Thanks in advance!

I have attached the CON, .mid and .rpp files below (I’ve never used Dropbox so please yell at me if something’s not right)

what’s the BPM during that section?

It’s 140 BPM throughout the entire song.

what you can do for any section where the animations get too fast is halve the beats for that section as well as make the animations mellow for everyone. One or both of those should do the trick

Not to hijack your thread, but 7/8, eh? Can I pretend the song is Ethiopia by the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

          …Please? <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />

          …No? :crying:

          Fine. :argh:

I saw this performed live during their I’m With You tour and watching the crowd try to dance to the beat was hilarious LOLOLOL

Mike Rutherford on Turn It On Again: “I had this riff but at the time I was playing it like this, [plays slower] and Phil said ‘why don’t you try it in a faster speed?’ and then he said to me ‘do you realize it is in 13/8?’ and I said ‘What do you mean it’s in 13/8? It’s in 4/4 isn’t it?’ ‘No, it’s 13′”. Collins confirms “You can’t dance to it. You see people trying to dance to it every now and again, they get on the off beat but they don’t know why”

The animations aren’t influenced by the BPM or time signature of the midi file, just the position of the notes in the BEAT track (and the animation speed set in Magma). If the animations look reasonable during the non-7/8 parts of the song, try to remove some of the notes in the BEAT track during the 7/8 parts so that the density roughly corresponds to the one used during the non-7/8 parts (in terms of notes per second).

This is the right answer. Always favor longer beats than shorter ones, e.g. instead of this:

                X – X – X – X

                do this:

                X – X – X – –

which will create a slower animation for the last 3 eighth notes, but better than a doubly fast 1 eighth note in the former.
