WHAT IS IT
It’s an expansive collection of Rock Band album art (png_xbox) files. As of this post, there are over 3,300 files in there.
This includes art from all the Rock Band titles, most of the official DLC, several hundred RBN songs, and most of the C3 releases, including all of the GH songs converted by GHtoRB3.
SO WHAT? WHY DO I CARE?
One of the many minor things we do at C3 is make sure the album art we use with our songs matches any existing on-disc song, DLC, RBN or prior C3 release. It’s a minor detail but it improves the overall perception of a custom’s quality.
WHO SHOULD USE THIS?
Everyone.
We are listing this in the public forums rather than the C3 Authors forums because C3 Authors already do it. This just now makes it easier for them. But we want all of you, even non-C3 Authors to develop good authoring habits. This is simple, easy, and improves the quality of your custom.
HOW DO I USE THIS?
First, I would suggest using Wikipedia or a similar website to determine what album your song is from. Then search http://www.rockband.com and http://db.customscreators.com for songs by that artist. If you find that songs from that same album have already been released, then find that song’s album art in our repository.
Always make sure you’re using the latest Magma: C3 Roks Edition version. Put that png_xbox file in the same folder as your project, drag and drop it to the album art field in Magma. In Magma’s menu, go to Options -> ADVANCED SETTINGS, and make sure “Override album art” is checked (it should be by default). When you compile your song, Magma will use that png_xbox file and your song will have the exact album art as the existing song(s).
THE REPOSITORY IS NOT PERFECT!
The collection of 3,300+ files was put together by mass extracting the album art from my files. I did not and will not process each file individually.
This means if there was an album with 10 songs in it, all 10 of those songs’ album art can be found in the repository even though they’re all the same image file. Likewise, I’ve been told that even HMX changed album arts for the same album throughout the years. The repository will have both versions and I suppose it’s up to you to pick the better one.
Lastly, there may be a few DLC album art missing, and there are well over a thousand RBN songs missing album art from the repository.
All in all, this isn’t some grand project that will solve all the problems in the world. But it should make it considerably easier for most authors to access the official album art for most songs out there.
If you happen to be interested in one that can’t be found in the repository, then head over to the Le Fluffie thread, and use it to extract the album art yourself.
Enjoy.
December 28, 2013 at 2:45 am #411276C3 folder is currently unavailable, we’ll be adding all the official releases soon. In the meantime, this is another awesome job Nemo left the whole community to enjoy. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
December 28, 2013 at 4:42 am #411277Yup, I’ll be using this for my future stuff.
December 28, 2013 at 1:00 pm #411280Sweet, this will come in handy, with all the new software stuff and the shiny new license I’ve purchased for Reaper, I’m gonna give charting another try!
December 28, 2013 at 5:26 pm #411286FYI, I’ve found that the images Harmonix uses on the song’s page on their site is the same image they used for the album files for the songs so if you’re looking for a RBN album file you could grab it from there then use C3 Lefluffie to convert it. It’s very possible it’s not so for ALL of the songs, but I’m just putting that out there.
December 28, 2013 at 5:30 pm #411287That’s exactly what NOT to do.
Let’s say that the PNG images on RockBand.com’s servers are 100% exactly what HMX uses. Then they go through their process and out comes a png_xbox image. If you use that same PNG image and run it through Magma or Le Fluffie (both use the same code), the png_xbox image that comes out the other end will not be 1:1 with the one that HMX created. Why? Because we don’t have HMX’s code, and what we have now is a very fine tuned approximation of how they do it, but nothing more than that. So the resulting image would be “very similar” but never 1:1.
That is precisely why we use the png_xbox files whenever we can, because those are 1:1 with the original files, since they ARE the original files. If there’s a song not found in the repository, buy it if you don’t already own it, transfer it from the Xbox to your PC, and extract the png_xbox using Le Fluffie.
December 30, 2013 at 3:52 am #411369I guess it wasn’t possible for me to notice the difference in the approximation on my old tv, cause I just spotted a ton of art inconsistencies looking through my setlist on my new tv and also noticing exactly what you’re talking about. Gotta fix all those.
February 7, 2014 at 2:46 pm #413653Thanks to the help from our forum member TDCMark, the C3 folder is back up with the album art for all 600+ C3 releases.
July 15, 2015 at 12:09 am #450330Wow it’s been a long time since an update to this was posted.
I just re-did most of the repository, adding some missing DLC and all the missing RBN album art. The files are also now named Artist – Song for easier finding.
The C3 folder wasn’t updated because I have no idea how I can get those and I have my C3 and non-C3 customs mixed together.
The RB1 folder wasn’t updated because the RB1 files don’t actually have the album art inside, and I wasn’t going to rename each file manually.
Every other folder was updated. Enjoy.
July 15, 2015 at 7:48 am #450350Thanks man! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>

Did I instigate this or was my derp just a coincidence? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Either way, thanks again for all you do!
July 15, 2015 at 3:47 pm #450389Nope, it was all you.
July 15, 2015 at 3:48 pm #450390Nope, it was all you.Aww, shucks!
May 26, 2016 at 8:13 am #469339Is there anybody with the Harmonix Gish album art for “Siva” that they could send to me? If love my customs from that album to have the exact same art.
May 28, 2016 at 9:05 pm #469453I updated the Repository with a new folder (“updates”) containing the 180 album art files found in the RB3 disc. That should cover all or most of the older DLC that didn’t include album art in the actual DLC file.
