UPDATE 7/30 – Frank Zappa “Tink Walks Amok” full band
GUITAR/BASS/VOCALS: nsw1-6
Here’s a brilliant instrumental featuring 2 bass tracks. The slap bass is charted to PART GUITAR while the micro bass track is on PART BASS. It’s named after then Zappa bassist Arthur Barrow whose nick name was Tink. The song was improvised on the spot with Frank cueing changes on the fly along to a drum machine. Drummer Chad Wackerman later recorded acoustic drums.
July 31, 2016 at 7:37 pm #472702UPDATE 7/31 – Chicago Hot Streets pack released!
Here is my pack for Hot Streets released in 1978. This is the first album after the death of original guitarist Terry Kath. Credits listed below. Also thanks to my friend Masayuki Funatsu for creating a great image for this pack and mb1nightmare for playtesting.
GUITAR: Mb1nightmare/MrBurpler
5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer“Alive Again” is a song written by James Pankow with Peter Cetera singing lead vocals. The first single released from that album, it reached #14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the first new single after their split with producer James William Guercio and first hit after the accidental death of Terry Kath; Donnie Dacus replaces him on guitar. The opening guitar and horns riff of this song were used in the opening highlights montage by the NBA on CBS from 1979 to 1981.
GUITAR: ghostbyob
5 LANE KEYS: BansheeflyerThis brilliant title track was written and sung by Robert Lamm. It’s sadly the last jazz influenced song Chicago would do for many years. It features solo sections for flute and a great outro solo for new guitarist Donnie Dacus.
GUITAR: bsbloom
5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer“No Tell Lover” is a song written by Peter Cetera, Lee Loughnane, and Danny Seraphine with Cetera and Donnie Dacus singing lead vocals. The second single released from that album, it reached #14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. After “No Tell Lover”, Chicago failed to chart a single in the U.S. top fifty for nearly four years, finally breaking their slump with the 1982 number-one hit “Hard to Say I’m Sorry”.GUITAR: bsbloom
5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer
This song is a vocal introduction and guitar showcase for brand new member Donnie Dacus. He has a soothing vocal delivery and great guitar chops. after 2 verses and a short solo section the song concludes with a blistering 2 minutes of outro guitar solo which the band brilliantly backs him up on. Danny Seraphine is on fire throughout.
GUITAR: MrBurpler
5 LANE KEYS: BansheeflyerBeautiful uptempo ballad written and sung by Robert Lamm. Danny’s drum do not take the simple approach and are very fun to play.
July 31, 2016 at 9:26 pm #472708Astonishing effort again with this pack. Great to see such fine music get this high quality treatment.
August 1, 2016 at 3:30 pm #472729More good stuff, thank you!
August 1, 2016 at 4:57 pm #472740Thanks for the kind words everyone. Added play through videos for Chicago Hot Streets pack and the two full band Zappa tunes Tink and Cosmic Debris courtesy of Sideshow.
On a negative note there is someone who goes onto all of my Zappa releases and gives them a low rating in the database as soon as they pop up. I’m sure there is a more constructive way to relay your criticism so please feel free to message me or comment on the song with your thoughts. Otherwise it just feels like you don’t like the artist in question and are venting that through the rating system.
August 2, 2016 at 2:40 am #472773I was reading up on Frank Zappa and found out that his 80’s drummer Chad Wackerman happens to be the brother of Brooks Wackerman who was formerly Bad Religion’s main drummer and now has moved on to Avenged Sevenfold. Pretty Cool stuff. Really sad how early in life Frank Zappa had his life taken away.

The man died at 53 and released 60 something albums in about 27 years. Truly amazing and yes he would be still composing symphony masterpieces and calling out idiot politicians to this day. I’m going to chart as many songs of his as I can.
August 2, 2016 at 2:57 pm #472789Thank You and all who helped for your latest Chicago pack! Some really cool Chicago songs that give us that “jazzy feel good” groove, suitable for those sunny weekend barbeques with family and friends. Really Great Stuff! Thanks so much! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
As far as Zappa calling out “idiot politicians to this day”……
Yeah, he’d have a field day with some of the bozos running around nowadays and the moronic rhetoric they spew. LOL!
August 5, 2016 at 7:54 pm #472947UPDATE 8/5 – Frank Zappa “Uncle Remus” full band
GUITAR/BASS/VOCALS: nsw1-6
5 LANE KEYS: Bansheeflyer
“Uncle Remus” is co-written by keyboardist George Duke, this song is more his than Zappa’s, at least judging by how it sounds. A slow soul-rock number, with very inspired piano playing and female back vocals by Tina Turner and the Ikettes. Musically, it sounds out of place on the 1974 LP Apostrophe (as it would have on any other Zappa album from this period): too serious. This is clearly a song about the civil rights movement in the United States as Zappa saw it in 1974.August 5, 2016 at 8:31 pm #472952Ya know, I don’t know a heck of alot of Frank Zappa’s stuff……
But with George Duke collaborating and Tina Turner on backing vocals? OK, this REALLY peaks my curiosity. I gotta hear this!
Thanks for sharing! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
August 5, 2016 at 8:50 pm #472957Let’s look at three homophones: peak, peek, and pique.
Peak is a topmost point, such as a mountain peak, or to reach that point:
We’re sort of at peak demand right now.
A peek is a glance or a quick look, like you do with the unwrapped Christmas presents at the bottom of your loved one’s closet. It can also mean to glance or to peer at. It’s frequently paired with sneak, which can lead you to use the incorrect peak:
Residents take a peek at bike and pedestrian safety plans
Yellowstone Offers Sneak Peek Of New Visitor CenterFinally, pique is to upset or excite someone. You will sometimes see peek one’s interest for pique one’s interest, but don’t be fooled. If you’re piquing someone’s interest, you are exciting their interest not taking a quick look at it:
If that doesn’t pique your interest, you can leave (but I’m keeping your shoes).
Here’s your mnemonic device:
- You have to reach to gain the peak.
- If you peer at something, you are peeking.
- And if you’re piqued about something, there’s usually a question in your mind about it.

Frank Zappa is severely under appreciated for his music. More people know him for his personality and outspoken views on everything but radio rarely gave him the time of day. His hits were all accidental and few of them could accurately represent such a broad range of genres and musicianship that he produced. Just like with Chicago I aim to shine a light on his brilliance ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I’m glad I decided to drink my soda before I read this otherwise it would’ve come out my nose by now.
Someone must’ve been an English major at some point.

I’ll have to listen to more of him.
August 5, 2016 at 10:36 pm #472963Zappa covers so many bases, everyone can find something to like about him. At least one song or even album.

“Word Crimes” confirmed.
