Distressed PingMemberThanks for all your comments guys.
Like Trojan pointed out, playing 4 chorded notes isn’t a comfortable experience at all. We are playing a piece of plastic and not an actually real guitar, do not confuse the two.

The_Guitar_Hero_KingBlockedPsh, I know right? Worst game of all time. Soon they’ll have guitars playing keyboard…
GYO and GBO chords are manageable, in fact, it feels more like an actual chord I’d play for an acoustic song, but it doesn’t really fit in Rock Band. As much as I like to emphasize realism, it’s still a game and “fun” is usually a word associated with games (unless you play competitive multiplayer and are obsessed with good stats – then it’s serious business) and to many the aforementioned chords aren’t “fun”.
Four note chords I still think shouldn’t be used at all. They make intense sounds feel more satisfying to play but there’s a reason (most) rock band rhythm games don’t use them.
GHSH is not the fucker worst, it had so many classic songs from the old games that they made into full band.

StackOverflow0xParticipant“Blue Monday”, by New Order and “Closer”, by Nine Inch Nails use 4-note chords on Keys. I think in the latter, Pro Keys doesn’t do 4-note chords, but 5-lane does.

DerekParticipantThere’s a Volbeat track that uses 4 [consecutive] fret chords quite a bit during the intro. Like others have pointed out, if they’re all in a row I don’t see what the real issue is? But then again, I play on older GH guitars and not the RB Strats, so the frets are probably a lot easier for my fingers to hit simultaneously. I could take them or leave them, personally. They sure are fun to hit with an 8x multiplier though.

I don’t mean to demean the game. It was cool to see those old GH songs full band.

“Blue Monday” has five-note chords on pro keys. It’s actually really fun to play. But it’s considerably easier for keys than guitar. I’m all for four-note chords on five lane keys.

MemberOnly song I think of that have a 4 chorded note is I’m the One from Guitar Hero Van Halen. Raining Blood from Guitar Hero 3/Smash Hits had a 5(!!) chorded note
Master of Puppets from GH Metallica also had a 4 note chord.

nineteenforeverMemberPro Keys is real right hand keys though, if a five note chord was played in the song recording, a five note chord is charted :]

FarottoneKeymasterA five note chord should not be authored, no, 4-note chords is the maximum allowed. And chords spanning more than an octave should be simplified.

For pro keys? You’ll have to tell Harmonix that, then.

TrojanNemoParticipantNope, he didn’t.
Expert Pro Keys
– Expert PK can contain up to 4-note chords, within the span of an octave (12 semitones).

nineteenforeverMemberOoer, I seee. But… There does exist five note chords on keyboard? Is there a rule? I guess the thumb/pinky note is just omitted then?

TrojanNemoParticipantThe authoring rules tell you what to do, which I think farottone did as well. Some composer/pianists like Rachmaninoff would say fuck you and create huge chords. We can’t do that in RB3, so we simplify according to music theory.

nineteenforeverMemberHaha, aye, no one’s charting like this we’re just talking about it
” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” /> I highly doubt I’d ever encounter any 5-note chords in my genres of charting anyway, but it makes for a good discussion
